Have any of you guys ever been to Russia? Seems like you've heard too many stories about the danger of living there. Detroit is more dangerous than any city in Russia that I know of.
-
Opened the door? That happens like in every thread. I don't think I've ever started a thread where someone didn't open the door to something. The thread was about Franzen so I posted what I think about him. His goal scoring is no concern of mine. I know he'll be fine there when he's in the lineup. When he's not in the lineup, he won't be scoring goals.

If you go on dropyourgloves.com, you'll see lots of video footage of every guy on my list. Those guys fought in the toughest era in hockey in my opinion, and had tremendous win/loss records. Domi probably has the worst win/loss record on that list (although his was good), but with so many fights and constantly being undersized in each one, I had to put him on the list. I forgot the Raglan/Kocur fight, but like I said, I was going off the top of my head. I still don't think Brashear was KO'd, but some people seem to think otherwise. Lilja has trouble finding takers, which prevented him from being on my list.
-
TKO, not KO. Brashear got back up rather quickly. I mentioned it in my post.
-
Our top 3 is similar. I hesitate with Brashear and Laraque, because they're huggers more than fighters. If they fought to win the way those older heavies did, they would have a lot more losses. For instance, last year Brashear seemed to open up his fighting style, and finally got caught. I still put him on my list, but fighting to win and fighting not to lose are two different things. I'm sure if Probie wanted to, he could hug a guy to death too. Wilson would be the same way.

Behn Wilson, Bob Probert, Dave Brown, Joey Kocur, Clark Gillies, Larry Playfair, Bob Nystrom, Nick Fotiu, Donald Brashear, Tie Domi There's my top 10 in order, and Probert is the only guy on that list who got KO'd, when Ewen dropped him. That doesn't diminish him in my book, but it is rather odd that none of the other top heavies ever got dropped that badly. There have been several TKO's, like most recently Belak on Brashear, but not a KO in my book.

So why not pick a guy like Hossa or Thornton ahead of Kovalchuk? Those guys seem to be great scorers too, especially Thornton, who always puts up huge numbers and leads the league in assists every year. I know they haven't exactly cut it in the playoffs, but neither has Kovalchuk. Also, they're more multi-dimensional players. I was planning on picking them ahead of Kovalchuk also.
-
Hudler will probably be carried out in a grocery bag.
-
I guess I'm the only one that seems hesitant to pick some one-dimensional player who's never even played in a big game.
-
Many top heavyweights haven't been KO'd. Actually, Probert is the only guy in my top 10 that has been KO'd, now that I think about it. Oh, also, Boulerice was a better fighter than Downey, so I wouldn't say he was a crap fighter. That was just one fight where anything could happen.
-
Actually, Kovalchuk has played with Hossa and Heatley, so I'd say he's had some help too. Lecavalier wasn't great last season, but I'd still take him over Kovalchuk if I needed a goal late in the game. I don't think Kovalchuk is as willing to go to the scoring areas in front of the goalie. That's why I think Vinny is a more versatile scorer when he's on his game.
-
Kovalchuk is not a better scorer than Vinny. He has a better shot, but he doesn't score in front of the net the way Vinny can. Thus, Lecavalier is a more versatile scorer. The physical, gritty aspect is a big part of hockey and it seems like you downplayed its importance. Neither is great defensively, but Vinny is better at it than Kovalchuk. Kovalchuk is a better skater. Both have great hands. Vinny has a Cup and won the Richard trophy a few years back. I just don't understand why no one is voting for him. He wasn't great last year, but still scored about a point per game in an off year for him.
-
Vincent Lecavalier. What exactly does Kovalchuk do better than him?

Kopecky to the rescue. Time for the "Slovakian Beast" to flex his muscles. -
Wow, you mentioned cock and **** in the same post. Aren't you adorable?
-
Why would Lidstrom's kids be partaking in this game? I mean I know it's the preseason, but the Flyers are a violent team. I wouldn't put my kids out there against Pronger and Cote.

if you were Robert Lang, where would you be right now?

I heard Langer begins every morning at the bakery. -
It's not really based on size. Tie Domi could pass as a midget, yet he was a heavyweight that could KO any big man. There have been many other undersized enforcers who were successful as well. Downey in 2008 was a heavyweight and handled himself pretty well against everyone he fought. Don't know if he's that good now, though. He did, however, beat Parros, who was one of the guys you listed. The bigger guys don't have the best balance.
-
It is classless, but I don't think we should trade the guy. He's too important to the team. He just needs to stop trying to be like Kirk Maltby. That isn't his game.
-
I didn't say Thomas is a nobody, I just can't understand how anyone can say he's the best goalie in the whole league. Ahead of Luongo, Brodeur, Lundqvist, Nabokov and Kiprusoff. His number of wins has a lot to do with playing in front of a team that finished 1st in the East. I just don't think he's a top 10 NHL player.
-
Actually, I said that Franzen should stop acting tough. Apparently, you didn't read my posts either. You can criticize me on my previous stance on this teams's softness, but you can't say s*** about that in this thread, because that isn't the course I was taking here. Nice going.
-
Thomas is playing for a way better team. Of course he's going to have more wins. He just had one hot season and now everyone is ready to vote him the BEST goalie in the NHL. That's pushing it, don't you think? He might be in the top 5, but he's definitely not the best goalie in the league just because he won the Vezina on a really good team.
-
Sounds like you're the one whining. If you don't mind Franzen's antics then fine. I do and I posted about it. I don't only post about toughness, that's just some stupid myth that people like yourself seem to have about me. ZOMG every thread is GMR's fault. And actually, I have no free time on my hands. I just happen to own a hyperbolic time chamber that allows me to conserve time like no one else can. Talk to you later, dear. BTW, if you werent' so lazy as to not read my posts, you'd notice that I said Franzen shouldn't be fighting or trying to act tough. So my post was an anti-toughness post as related to Franzen, and not a pro-toughness stance. I'm sure you noticed that, though.

Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. -
It's harder than it used to be, but it's still prevalent all around the NHL. Many teams have guys like Downey, and I'm sure they're not doing it because they're all stupid.
