Jeez, the guy slips once in a fight and all of a sudden everyone forgets all his victories. BTW, I forgot to add Boll to that list. See, even I tend to overlook PAIN TRAIN sometimes.
-
Because I didn't join this site today, just for the purpose of making fun of your favorite player. Take off your homer glasses from time to time. Yeah, your boy Franzen dives and acts like a ***** too often. His offensive talent doesn't excuse some of his unnecessary behavior.
-
Are you talking about the same Lilja who destroyed Souray, Phaneuf, Neil, Begin and Sharp?
-
But didn't you hear that Lebda is fast? Also, he has great speed and has terrific acceleration. Likewise, he's got some of the best wheels in the NHL. That guy can fly on the ice. Who wouldn't want this guy?
-
Downey did fine on the 4th line in the role that was given for him. He was a very good 4th line enforcer for us. Scoring from an enforcer isn't expected, even in today's NHL.
-
It's not just him, there are others, and the league is full of them. I just don't like players who engage in that behavior. In his case, he happens to be a very good player and a Red Wing, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt for it. I dislike it when players dive, talk s*** without backing it up, or turtle during altercations.
-
I don't see Hank, Pavel or Cleary doing some of this stuff. I understand that he's not a tough guy, so what I'm saying is that he needs to stop acting like it, because when someone does finally call his bluff, he winds up looking like a fool. There's nothing graceful about diving or turtling, and I don't like it when players like him tend to give the entire team a reputation for diving. Reminds me of a certain team that I hate.
-
Someone who's calling out Franzen for diving and flopping like he did against Getzlaf and Vandermeeer. You know who I am, so don't give me that s***. I didn't say anything untruthful in my post. If you don't like it, then tough s***.
-
On this forum, if a guy can't score or skate well (whatever that means), he's considered a terrible player. The guy did play with great energy, and was a tenacious forechecker, but when people have been watching the pussiest team in the league for years, they don't seem to realize why that matters in hockey. Everyone here has an unrealistic expectation of what an enforcer should be. Now someone will come on here to tell me that Tootoo, or some other guy like him is an enforcer. Don't waste your time folks. Basically, you're not exactly preaching to the choir around here.
-
Oh I'm sure he's not. He seems to actually enjoy flopping around and embarassing himself during these altercations. Maybe you and some of his teammates don't mind, but there are fans and players alike who find some of that behavior embarassing. I don't think star players should necessarily fight, but if he's going to act like tough s***, he should be more willing to back it up. Either way, he can't keep diving around the ice and turtling. He winds up looking like an idiot. It doesn't reflect well on the team either.
-
Or as they call him in Detroit, "The Phantom of the Playoffs"
-
Or he can just act like Hank and Flip and avoid those situations altogether. I'm just tired of seeing him trying to act tough, and when someone challenges him, he dives and turtles. That backhanded slap Getzlaf gave him in the playoffs is still embedded in my mind.
-
Hopefully he'll stop acting like a ***** also. No more dives and wannabee scrums.
-
Not only has it petered off, as you put it, but now people are starting to vote for Tim Thomas of all people. Apparently, they can't name anymore than 8 NHL All-Stars.
-
Are you talking about Kopecky, because if you are you're wrong. Kopecky doesn't have one single skill.
-
That's one big hiccup. Actually, I don't really want Stuart traded, but I love how that one poster always complains about people wanting to trade a guy with a no-trade clause. I do, however, wish that Stuart would act more like a 6'2 Western Canadian defenseman, and actually drop the damn gloves. We don't need a Chris Therien on our team.
-
I agree with everything the OP said, but I still think we need to trade Stuart.
-
Brodeur's teams played the trap, while Roy's teams played in a different era with more scoring. It's a matter of style, not necessarily talent. Montreal's defense wasn't as good as a Stevens, Nidermayer and Rafalski tandem, and they never played the same style of hockey New Jersey did. In fact, nobody ever played the trap better than the Devils. Brodeur hardly ever had to stand on his head for his team to win. There's a reason Roy has 3 Conn Smythes and Brodeur has 0. He's clearly had more of a load to carry than Brodeur.
-
Kopecky will have 200 PIM's and will lead the league in hits. Sammy will score 40 goals. Hossa will win the Conn Smythe. Conklin will lead the Blues to the semifinals. Hudler will lead the KHL in points and will beat Chris Simon in a fight.
-
The Devils last Cup came in 2003, not 2000. Since then, he's done s*** in the playoffs and has been outplayed by Ray Emery, Cam Ward and Sean "freaking" Avery, who totally got into Brodeur's head in that series. His numbers were good, but in these days all goalies seem to put up good numbers. Bottom line is that he was outplayed by the other team's goalie. To me, he's a product of a good defensive system will several Hall of Fame defensemen and the TRAP. He's done nothing in the playoffs with this new Devils squad. Luongo hasn't done much in the playoffs either, so I look at their regular season success in recent memory, and I think Luongo has been better and has had more of a load to carry.
-
Don't we do this all year anyway? I mean, there's no secret about which posters like and hate which players.
-
What I meant was that Parker's career has been riddled with injuries. He's never had any talent, but that hasn't stopped other enforcers in the past from having a full-time roster spot. He's spent so much time on the IR, that he just stopped becoming someone Colorado or San Jose wanted even when he finally got healthy.
-
Maybe the KHL will sign him. After all, he's a guy who's played at least 1 NHL game, which automatically means that the KHL wants him, just to piss off more people.
-
Ssssshhhhh..... That no-trade clause is a myth here on LGW. There is no such clause. Even if there was, Holland (with Lilja's help) could force Stuart to waive it if he had to.
-
With Parker it was injuries, and with Downey it was his age and playing for a team that's afraid to fight. I don't see any elephant s***ting anywhere.
