That's a stretch. You're just saying that because he had a good series against us. The way Crosby and Oveckhin have played so far in the playoffs, I'd hate to imagine how many points they would have produced against us. In Crosby's case we may still find out, and he's scoring way more goals than he did last year in the playoffs. Getzlaf is nowhere near the player either of those guys are in my book.

Chicago can play a grinding style. Look what they did to Calgary. Also, the series against Vancouver got pretty scrappy and they handled themselves well. Like I've told people already, they're just as physical and gritty as Anaheim is, and I see them resorting to some of the same tactics. So bottom line is that they're just as good at fighting and goonery as the Ducks are. Maybe even better when you size up each team's rosters. The only difference is that the top line isn't as big as Anaheim's top line was. But the other lines, especially the defense can make up for that.

He's played well, but he could be doing better considering how he was out there a lot against that top line for Anaheim, which singlehandedly gashed us. I expect him to be even better in this upcoming series, though.

Why would anyone feel bad for him? It's not like some tragedy struck his life. A few years ago the Ducks eliminated the Wings and made us feel like s***, so I'm glad the favor was returned. Screw their dirty ass team.

Do you really think the NHL will let them advance into the Finals to play an original 6 team instead of giving s***sburgh that same honor?

What happened to the Flip - Franzen - Hossa line? It seems like they had their 2 games of fame, and then Babcock decided not to use them again. I'd keep that line together, and play Datsyuk with Hank and Cleary. Holmstrom being taken off the top 6 will make him utterly useless, but at this point there's no choice. He doesn't deserve top 6 minutes. Sammy has outplayed him.

I thought there would be a rematch ever since the 2nd round began, so I can't blame the OP for thinking the same thing. If I'm not mistaken, it'd be the first rematch in the Finals since the '83 and '84 seasons. I just hope the end result isn't the same as it was then.

Carolina is just a weird team. They won the Cup a few years ago with this core roster, then they missed out on the playoffs for several years with this same group, and now here they are back in the semis. They're just a bizzarre team, but don't forget for a moment that they're a former Cup champion, and not some young team that's all of a sudden playing hot out of nowhere. Actually, they're not even a young team, but are full of veteran players.

Nice post. Finally someone else is willing to say it instead of trying to sound politically correct. The fact that those defenseman were able to completely shut him down offensively, shows that he didn't play up to par considering how good he's been in the past. It was talent versus talent, and his talent was completely dwarfed in this series by Anaheim's star defenders. It's not like Datsyuk isn't used to playing against the other team's best defensemen. Look what Getzlaf did against our defense with Lidstrom on it.

The happiest guy right now on both teams is easily Patrick Sharp. Neither Lilja nor Kopecky are likely to play in this series.

If he's playing well defensively and not scoring, than that is a disappointment. Remember, the thread was about Datsyuk and not Maltby. Pavel's primary job is to score lots of points. Datsyuk, Homer, and Hossa's lack of scoring is partly one of the reasons it went 7 games as opposed to it being a shorter series. But like I said, go ahead and make excuses for his point production.

I guarantee you if Anaheim scored that last goal and not us, everyone on this site would be blasting Datsyuk. Instead, everyone is excusing him and talking about how great Scott Niedermayer is. Bottom line is that Datsyuk has been a huge disappointment so far in the playoffs, and I'm not going to make any excuses for the way he's played.

This will be a tougher series than Anaheim in my opinion. The Hawks are a deeper team and not just a one line team. Also, they're every bit as nasty and physical as Anaheim is. I don't know how much the Wings have physically left after this series. Chicago played 2 series against physical teams, both of which were filled with fights and nastiness. In other words, Anaheim isn't the only team that can goon it up against us. Chicago will also and they have the tools to do it. Wings in 6 or 7.

Of course I'm happy we won, but our star players aren't excused for the fact that we won. This was not a good series for our top players, since they got soundly outplayed by the Ducks' top players. We advanced because of our depth and some key saves by Ozzie. If we don't score that last goal, you'd probably be agreeing with me and would be mad at Datsyuk for not scoring in this series. I tip my hat off to all the role players who played well tonight. I'm not going to applaud the ones who have been no shows for most of the series. -

Dead on. Lidstrom has not been good in this series since game 1. Their star players owned him and offensively he had a hard time getting shots through to the goalie. People are more scared to criticize his play then that of Pavel and Hossa, but I still think it needs to be noted.
