Our top 3 forwards need to shoot the puck more. How many great scoring chances have Pavel, Hank or Hossa had so far? I can't remember many in these first two games.

Anyone hear anything about their status for next season? I'm guessing Shanny will be done after this year, but Fedorov may come back depending on how close the Capitals get this season to the Cup. Anyway, they're two of my favorite players ever, but at this point it's hard to watch either of them play knowing that they are shells of what they once were.

It's one damn incident. How do you expect a guy like him to play on the edge but never do anything that goes over that edge? Just about every tough guy has had some bad incident in his career. I can't believe people are whining and bitching so much about this guy over this once incident. This whole thread has been full of whiny little misinformative posts about how Downey has always been a detriment, or some crap like that.

Why do people make posts like this? Was Downey a detriment to this team in any way last year for you to post that? Downey plays on the edge, and when a player does that, sometimes he goes over the edge. That's what happens to enforcers or to many hard hitting 3rd and 4th liners around the league. It doesn't mean he's a consistently dirty player, because as far as I've known, he isn't. Having a team full of soft players who play a different style of hockey has made people forget what it's like to have a player like that here. Imagine if every team's fanbase started blasting any players who play on the edge hockey and eventually do something stupid like this. You fans are a bunch a spoiled crybabies. Go root for a basketball team if you don't want to see players like Downey ever being associated with the team.

So does that mean you never respected Probert? As someone pointed out earlier, he did a lot of cheap stuff in his career also. That double standard is called being a fan. It's been a while since we dressed any consistent toughness in the lineup, so Wings fans have forgotten what it's like to have to root for a player who plays on or over the edge sometimes.

Worst post in the history of LGW. Guy stuck up for his teammates last year and was a popular guy, and yet this is the gratitude he gets through s***ty posts like this. You bandwagoners need to support Downey on this since he's a member of the Wings organization. Don't turn your backs on the guy because of one damn incident. The soft culture of this team has permeated to the fans also. Some of the posts in this thread make me sick.

Sammy will score 2 goals today from the point on the powerplay. Both will be laser shots that beat the goalie high glove side.

It did actually. It was a great play, but moments like that are few and far between for him now. The explosiveness just isn't there anymore and it's sad for a fan to watch him float out there. The same thing happened at the end of Yzerman's career, but he was more important to us in 2006 than Fedorov is now to the Capitals.

This is bad news and it sounds like his injury is worse than what they're letting on. The longer the series goes, the more we'll miss him if he doesn't come back.

They are worse on paper this year, but way tougher mentally. With the losses they had in the offseason, plus the coaching change, plus the injuries, this has been an amazing run for them the 2nd half of the year. I wouldn't be surprised if they make it back to the Finals and become even more formidable than they were last year.

I'm glad he scored but I stll don't like the whole "PP is our enforcer" crap. It would have been nice if we had someone on the team who could skate over and beat Mike Brown's ass right after that hit.

He's been decent in the playoffs and better than in the regular season. With that said, the title of this thread is a huge exaggeration. He's been far from amazing and like someone said earlier, he hasn't even scored a goal yet. For his salary he hasn't been amazig at all.

This thread has been one-sidedly against Sammy so far, and now I'm going to contribute to it further. He was awful last night and got way too much PP time. I don't think he should even be playing on the 2nd PP unit let alone the 1st. While he does have stretches where he can score here and there, he's not nearly consistent enough to be playing out there. It alsmost feels like Babcock is afraid to hurt Sammy's feelings by taking him off the PP.

He's just a bird faced idiot. Who cares what he said? If someone hit one of their turds that way, he'd be acting differently.

What did he say about the hit?

Why didn't Chelios play more late in the game? I thought he was good when he was on the ice early on.

Not the best game we've played, but a win is the most important thing. Ozzie and Lidstrom saved our asses. Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Hossa didn't show up tonight the way they can. Also, we need Rafalski back. Seeing Sammy out there so often on the PP made me sick. Lastly, I got to give kudos to Ericsson for throwing that visor wearing idiot Perry around the ice. That was fun to watch. I wonder if Don Cherry will complain about the Canadian boy wearing the visor during a fight against a Euro?

Diving or not those were still careless plays by the Wings.
