Who is the most improved Red Wing from last season?
GMRwings1983 replied to Yzerman191's topic in General
Dude, did you even watch him fight last year? He didn't even lose once. I told everyone how great he was way before anybody else jumped on his bandwagon, so I can't say that he has surprised me. The answer is easily Hudler. Unfortunately, we've had more disappointments from last year than improvements. Fillpulla, Kronwall, Osgood, Draper, all those guys are playing worse this season than they were last year. -
Which team do you NOT want to face in the first round?

I wonder if those other teams' fans would rather play the Wings or Sharks? -

I voted Vancouver, but every first round has been tough for the Wings since 2000. I could envision any of those teams giving us a tough series, or with great goaltending, potentially beating us. That's not pessimism, it's just the truth. Edmonton was the team everyone wanted to play in 2006, because they had players no one ever heard of and an old goalie who had never done anything in the playoffs. -
Why does the NHL always have to alienate its fans more than the other leagues do?
-
We're loaded on defense already. Havelid would obviously be a short term addition, but what we need is some more size somewhere.
-
Kari Lehtonen has not been the goalie that everyone expected him to be. At this point, Conklin is a better goalie than him short term. Honestly, other than Kovalchuk or Valabik, there's nothing I'd want from their team, and neither guy is going to be traded to the Wings realistically. Don't know why the hell our scouts are there.

I still hate that retard Slappy from last season. I've never rooted for a Wings player to get injured, but I probably wouldn't be able to help it with him on the ice.
-
I actually expect them to be in the Finals. Boston hasn't had enough playoff experience to go there just yet. Also, Tim Thomas reminds me too much of Turco with his style. It's not a style of goaltending that is great for a long playoff run. He's just too wild. Wings vs. Devils in a rematch of the 95 Finals.

That's not good for the rest of the league. Pronger + Chara = holy s***!

Isn't it warm in Detroit in June?
-
He couldn't hit up a bong. His hits are a misleading stat, since he's usually the one who falls down after a hit.
-
Aren't we wasting a roster spot on a beanbag named Thomas Kopecky?
-
What would we trade for him?
-
Did you even watch hockey last year? Downey didn't prevent the Wings from doing anything skill wise when he was in the lineup. And there are no enforcers like Bob Probert. I hate these types of posts.

Based on the Sharks announcers, the score should be 2-1 San Jose (not counting the 5 minute major that should have been called on Cleary).
-
These announcers are unbeilivable homers. Even most fans aren't this idiotic when it comes to blind support and ridicule of every call.
-
That was a make up call.

Is it time to make some major moves for this year's playoff run?
GMRwings1983 replied to boomer's topic in General
Laraque is always injured and doesn't really fight as often as Neil. Also, he's not as good a player. Still, if we can't get Neil, I wouldn't mind us going after Laraque. He'd be an improvement over Kopecky. -
I just hope it's not Colby Armstrong. Kovalchuk would be nice, but we already have a right-handed winger with a great shot, by the name of Mikael Samuelsson. No need for a guy like Kovalchuk now.

Kopecky, Chelios Healthy Scratches for Tomorrow's Game
GMRwings1983 replied to Mike's topic in General
Actually, I think Kopecky should play tomorrow, with explicit instruction from management that he has to beat up Lemieux in a fight in order to secure his spot on the 4th line. -
For some reason I have disliked Modano in the last couple of seasons. He actually used to be one of my favorite non-Wings for many years before that. I guess nothing has really changed about him, but I just stopped liking the guy.

Chara is the frontrunner right now in the minds of most people not on LGW, primarily because he's never won before, because Boston has sucked for a long time and are now good again, and because he's put up some good numbers this year. If Green wins, it'll be the worst Norris winner ever, since he makes Paul Coffey look great defensively. However, if he continues to put up goals game after game, I can envision him winning it. The only way I see Lidstrom winning again is if he puts up huge numbers towards the end, the team improves defensively, and one of the other finalists gets injured. Right now, I don't see voters going for Lidstrom as the winner. Of course the consensus around here is different, but I doubt that anyone on LGW is going to be doing the actual voting.
-
I get the feeling that people on LGW are terrified of the Sharks, since each time they play a game, we have to start a different thread about it. I know they're ahead of us in the standings, but I still think they're getting way too much attention around here.

I'm sure you've seen a football game at least once in your lifetime.

Is it time to make some major moves for this year's playoff run?
GMRwings1983 replied to boomer's topic in General
We had a great regular season that year, but if the management had foresight, they would have seen that we had a lack of grit that would cost us in a long playoff series. I was just saying that having a good regular season doesn't mean you shouldn't make a move at the deadline like the poster I was quoting suggested. Last year we made a good move for Stuart, and he helped us win the Cup. Do you think we could have won it without Stuart? Who knows, maybe or maybe not. Fact is, we had a pretty good record last year at this time, and could have easily not traded for Stuart based on our success. If San Jose and other top teams are making moves at the deadline, so should we. No point sitting on our asses just because we won the Cup with a somewhat similar roster last year. It's a new season.
