Teams who play skilled hockey but aren't willing to do the dirty work are the easiest teams to trap. Unfortunately for the Wings, all their checkers right now are not playing the way they've done in the past. These guys are just going to have to battle harder and be a lot hungrier. That's why it's so hard to repeat as champs, because it's difficult for younger players to recreate that same passion and hunger that they had before they won the Cup. The fact is that more teams will try to trap us, and the boys are just going to have to respond by adjusting their style instead of being stubborn and trying to make pretty plays all the time.

Will you get your nose out of Holland's behind and stop making fun of every poster who happens to be mad at the Wings latest performance. People have a right to be angry with some of the play this year, and they want to see their team repeat as champs. The last few Cup champions also had many flaws through the season, and never could turn it around. If fans want to complain, then that's their right. Good thing you're not the mod around here, or else the discussion threads would be full of ass kissing and overly positive comments, with all negative posters being banned every day. Nobody would even bother arguing about anything.

He's playing with 2 all-stars on the same line, so he better be scoring at a high level. It also seems to me that he's been shooting the puck a lot less. I could be wrong there, but it seems like he's been more passive than ever at aiming for the goalie's crest like he's done in the past.

Throughout his career Ozzie has played best when he's felt like he has a lot to prove as the underdog. In 1998 he had to prove that he could lead this team to a Cup, and last year he had to prove that he was better than Hasek and could take the starting job from him and lead us all the way to another Cup, thus showing that he was still a solid goalie. This year he hasn't had anything to prove, because he knows that he has the starting job no matter what. I'd actually bench him right now, just to light a fire under his ass. Ozzie just feels immune right now, and Babcock has got to change that.

Fritz is a giant monster right now. He might be even bigger than Boogaard and he's already beaten Laraque, which Boogard never has. As for Lilja/Boll, rumor has it that Boll has worked hard with his lawyers to find a way to remove all copies of that fight from ever being distributed out to the public.

Great win boys and girls. Anyway, I'm going clubbing tonight. Keep the discussion clean.
-
WHy the hell is Sammy on the ice in that situation?
-
We better kill this off, or else the game is over for us.
-
Who said he's not stuggling? Wrong.
-
I swear the God, that fight happened as soon as I uploaded the online link for the first time tonight. Coincidence, or divine intervention?
-
He is pounding people, and he doesn't need lessons from Mac or Downey.
-
Tell that to Sheldon Souray's face.
-
ANother clear win for Lilja. Boll turtled like a *****.
-
Of course he's not. His beating of Souray proved that he's surpassed most Canadians in fighting prowess. Belak already fights like he's scared to get punched, so he'll definitely shy away from Andreas for fear of landing on his ass like poor Sheldon Souray did.
-
Looks like Lilja found himself a new punching bag, 8 times a year. In all fairness, though, Belak is a somewhat solid enforcer, with an unfortunate tendency to spin around like an idiot at a carousel, instead of actually trying to fight. Don't know why Florida never gave him much of a chance to play.
-
I'm just saying that he had a good enough career that he shouldn't be only remembered now upon retirement, just for that draft day. There have been bigger disasters on draft day than this situation.
-
That's a good point that I didn't consider until now, because last year we struggled against the s***ty teams in our division, and dominated the top teams. Now it's vice-versa.
-
He was a pretty solid defensive defenseman, who was a great hitter and a pretty good fighter. I don't know what you guys are all bitching about with this post. Yeah they passed him over for Sakic, but every team (including the Wings) has passed someone over for a better player. That's no reason to say he had a bad career.
-
A lot of people thought he was finished winning Norrises when he didn't win it in 2004. I think he ended with something like 40 points that year. And look what he's done since then. Obviously that was several years ago, and he's aged since then, but I think he just needs to be more aggressive offensively and needs to take off the visor which is most likely affecting his play. The plus/minus total is more of a product of the forwards not hustling defensively like they've done in the past. There are constantly players coming in off the puck to score goals on us. That's on the forwards and not on the defense.

How can anyone get in the lineup with Kopecky playing on the 1st line. He's basically holding everyone back, even though he's doing nothing but skating in circles out there. It's one thing if a guy hustles on the 4th line, but on the 1st line you have to do more than just battle along the boards and hustle. You also have to score, and that's why he shouldn't be a first line player. How can Babcock not see that?
-
I can already see the headlines in all the Montreal newspapers tomorrow morning. "CANADIENS HAVE ENSURED THEIR 25th CHAMPIONSHIP"
-
When is the last time your team got out of the 2nd round? Go watch your old Canadiens tapes, because those are the only championship teams you're going to see any time soon.
-
Apparently we paid 3 million a year to Fillpulla, just to have him passed over for Kopecky on the first line. Babcock is out of his mind on this one. Put that bum back on the 4th line where he belongs, or make him a healthy scratch. Putting him in place of Homer is like Angelina Jolie putting me in place of Brad Pitt.
-
Oh, thanks for that. I feel a lot better now, despite having to see all those Frenchies celebrating their overrated team's victory and singing at the JLA. You've just made my day.
-
Why can't we ever score empty net goals the way other teams do?
