If this is true, the boy who cried wolf has gone too far this time. He's starting to remind me of a punch drunk boxer who doesn't know when to stop. Problem is, he's not that good anymore, and ended the last 2 seasons with nothing left to give.

I wonder how Cleary's face feels about playing on the same line as Sammy? Seriously, though, I'm surprised with the line combos. I don't ever remember Hudler being a regular with Zetterberg, and Hossa is a right winger by trade, so he'll have to switch over to left wing, which I hope doesn't affect him negatively.
-
It wasn't just sirdrake. There were plenty of posters who at this time last year were overjoyed at how amazing Chelios' performance was in the playoffs, and how they wanted him to play till he's 50. Everyone wanted to see Holland give him a life tenure. Where are those posters now?
-
Dammit! Another player jumping to go play in some Euro league. Oh well, I hope he enjoys playing in Easton, wherever it is. We could have definitely paid him more.
-
Damn! I was hoping that four game sweep would be the way his career would end. Oh well, hopefully we'll play them in the playoffs again and sweep them one more time. He's been a class act, but I still can't like a guy who plays for the divealanche, let alone a guy who's been the face of their franchise's history.

I have pointed out several times how amazing it is that LGW went from all that Chelios love to now having a bunch of posters that want him gone.

Dallas kind of reminds me of the 2007 Wings. A team that finally overame past playoff disappointments, to make it all the way to the conference finals. I just hope they don't wind up like the 2008 Wings because of it. With that said, I still think we're way above them because their best players always struggle against the Wings.
-
How dare you?
-
Thanks for reminding me. That clearly explains why you want Lilja gone.
-
It's true that Lebda is actually more marketable for a trade, simply because of his age and his apparent offensive upside due to his speed (although this last part is a bit of a stretch). Also, because his salary is less than Lilja's, teams will be more willing to take him over Andreas. Most posters here seem to be overlooking that, just because they hate Lilja and want the Wings to dump his salary ASAP. Chicago has Patrick Sharp.

Damn, I wish I saw that. Was he as good as Sinatra?
-
There's a few teams, like Toronto and Columbus, who still don't have an enforcer. Besides, the man is a proven winner who has his name on the Cup.
-
If that's the situation, then why did Kenny Holland (who many of you think is God), sign Lilja to that contract? It doesn't make sense for him to get that contract only to get traded later on.

Chelios's agent confirms that 'Chelly' will re-sign

Great news, despite the fact that most people on LGW will ***** about it. -
Good point, but you don't need to preach to the choir. I tried to make the point to others about Lilja's ability on the PK.
-
I don't know why you even mentioned those names. I thought the argument was whether Lilja should be kept over guys like Lebda, Meech and Quincey. Why do we have to trade any of our top 4 defensemen to keep Lilja?
-
Lilja's paycheck is well deserved. He hits, fights, kills penalties, blocks shots, and reminds me of a great Viking leader out there on the ice. Also, he's got cool tattoos and looks great in a suit. Now which one of those things I just mentioned can Lebda do? That's right, he can't do anything but skate fast, which even then doesn't really help him offensively in any way. Bottom line is that there's a reason why Lilja makes more money than the other jobbers everyone has mentioned. He's better than them.
-
Anyone who says Lilja should be traded is clearly anti-enforcer.

Kyte beat a lot of good fighters, including a win over Kocur, Brown and multiple wins over McSorley. Of course he'll always be remembered for the bad losses, but he was far from being some punching bag who guys wailed on consistently. I guess I shouldn't have gone so far as to call him a damn good fighter, but he was certainly a capable heavyweight.
-
Jim Kyte was actually a damn good fighter, so it's a shame that he'll always be remembered for a few brutal KO's. I've always wondered why his teammates never came in to help him in that particular fight? Hockey was definitely more exciting back then. More scoring, more wide open play, worse goaltending, more hitting, more fighting and no annoying advertisements on the boards. Call it nostalgia, but I would trade what we have now in the NHL for those days easily.

Sammy, Lilja, Ericsson, Ritola spend time with the cup.

Sammy's girlfriend is pretty damn hot. For him that is. Also, it's great to see Lilja finally getting some recognition. Him making the local sports hall of fame is truly a huge honor. -
Yzerman for mayor of Detroit. He'd be a great replacement for what's his face.
-
I honestly don't remember the exact level of thinking. I watched it casually for several years, then I stopped watching it completely and did other things, and then I took it up again to become a fan of the league. As previous posters have stated, a video game had a large part to do with it, the other was that I loved Yzerman and Fedorov.

Michael Phelps might become the next Sidney Crosby or the New England Patriots as far as being disliked because he's so good. Especially if he's given too much coverage, which he has been at the expense of more entertaining events like boxing, wrestling or weightlifting, which haven't been shown so far primetime.
-
How would he do in a boxing ring or on the ice? You have no foundation for thinking that he'd run a certain time in the mile or in the 1500 meters. Nor do you know how he'd do in other sports. You're just saying these things to justify your position that Phelps is the greatest athlete ever. Take that statement back, and just say that you think he's the best current athlete. That at least sounds more plausible, and not as an overreaction.
