I'm waiting for someone to say that he's a better athlete than Superman. This Phelps-crush has gone too far.

There's a reason espn is the worst channel in America. Comments like that are part of the reason why. Their analysts hate hockey and soccer because they aren't American sports. Pure idiocy.

I don't know if this has been said, but Hank is guy who's one of the league leaders in shots taken. It would be pointless to have both him and Hossa on the same line, since Hossa is also a guy who loves to shoot. One guy would inevitably have to give in somewhat. Funny thing is that I originally stated that Hossa should play with Hank, but I overlooked this critical fact. If we put Hossa and Datsyuk together, that would be better off, since Pavel doesn't take many shots. I guess all in all, it doesn't make a big difference, because the lines will be juggled constantly as they usually are. But I guess there's nothing else to talk about during the offseason.

Well, I can name you several boxers who have never been beaten before, period. Doesn't that dominance show that they're better than some guy who hasn't lost in 2 years? Also, 8 gold medals can be broken in the future. No one will break Gretzky's records or a guy like Chamberlain with his records. A year from now no one will think of Phelps anymore, since we only care about him once every 4 years. Hell, last time he won 6 gold medals, which is pretty damn impressive, and yet how much press did he get in the last 4 years? None, unless you count that driving arrest that he got. Point is, he's great, but anyone calling him the best athlete ever is grossly overreacting based on his current popularity for the last week.

I guess I wouldn't mind seeing Buffalo win a Cup someday, if that's what you mean. Also, the Wild, because Minnesota is such a great hockey market with no Cups to show for it.

What exactly did I say in my last post that I was pulling out of my ass? Do you think Sammy can be a good checker that can lay big hits from time to time? If so, where's the precedent for him doing that? The point I was making is that agitators are usually guys that can hit on top of being pests out there.
-
Sammy can never be an agitator. Agitators usually have some level of physicality. For instance, guys like Ruutu, Varada and Cooke are players who can lay a devastating check at any point. Sammy couldn't hit a bong, and I don't ever remember seeing him lay a heavy bodycheck on anyone. Although Maltby isn't the big hitter he once was, he can still lay an occasional bodycheck here and there. Sammy is bigger than Maltby, but he doesn't have the attitude.

I don't care about any team in the NHL besides the Wings. There are some teams I root for to beat other teams on given nights, but as far as actually caring about any other team, I just can't bring myself to it. I don't know how so many of you can have other teams that you actually care about.
-
I know there are other guys besides Thorpe, and in fact the previous poster brought up Boe Jackson. I was just making an example of a guy that could do it all. For that matter what about guys like Gretzky, Jordan or Sugar Ray Robinson. Do you really think Phelps is better at his sport than they were at theirs? I don't. He's great, but I still think you overreacted calling him the best athlete ever. Best Olympian, maybe, but best athlete ever, no way.
-
Talk about overreacting. You're like those people on imdb who think that "The Dark Knight" is the greatest movie ever made just because it came out in the last month. Phelps is great, but the greatest athlete in world history? Don't forget that he's still a swimmer and nothing else. Look at a guy like Jim Thorpe who excelled at many sports. Now that's what I consider an even better athlete. One who could be great at many sports.

Sounds like some of the women I've known.
-
Why not? Craig Janney is no longer there, so there won't be any uncomfortable situations to worry about. Seriously, though, they suck as a team, so there's no reason for him to finish his career on a non-contending team. He better stay in New York or go to another contender.

I was wondering if anyone knows any site that I can go, where there is a list of all-time best NHL faceoff percentages? I don't know when the NHL began tracking faceoff statistics, but I've always wondered what Yzerman's all time faceoff percentage was, or for that matter how good Gretzky or Lemieux were on draws, since I don't remember. I'm also assuming that Yanic Perreault would be the best ever statistically. Anyway, I hope someone can help me with this.

You don't have to take that crap, SWF. I say kill 'em all if that's what they really think of you.
-
The swimming events especially. You think those multi-camera angles look cool now... That Natalie Coughlin has given me ideas ever since I first laid eyes on her.
-
If Lilja took draws, he would just maul the opposing team's faceoff man to the ice, and we would win possession of the puck that way.
-
Thanks for that list. That cleared up all my confusion about the schedule.
-
I didn't know we had any Croatian guys playing on this team?
-
Hopefully there will be a little more variety than just having the Pens, Flyers and Rangers playing against each other.
-
Yeah, I guess they all turned out to be hypocrites after all.
-
Thanks. I was afraid that might be the case, but this makes it final.
-
You must have misunderstood the topic. I wasn't putting together a list, I was merely asking a question about the best all-time faceoff percentages. I guess if you don't know, then no one does.
-
Thanks, I knew about the NHL yearly faceoff stats, but I wasn't sure when they started keeping such stats, and whether they only track these things season by season, as opposed to also looking at someone's career faceoff stats. Anyway, I speculated that the league doesn't keep career faceoff stats, but I wasn't sure if someone else knew more than me.
-
I'm surprised he doesn't just call it quits at his age with this condition. Doesn't seem like there's much to gain, and the Sabres are certainly not a Cup contender if that's what he's after.

I wish you had used a different phrase there. We're strictly internet rivals, that's all.
