Quincey as an enforcer? Let's not put him in Lilja's class as of yet. I haven't seen him fight once, and why should Downey become some teacher for him? I never did understand Holland when he made that comment. Also, everyone is talking about Chelios, but thought he had signed already. I guess I was wrong or misinformed.

Demitra could be an option due to his age, but I think the safe bet is on Ohlund.
-
This isn't a big deal, since he's left several franchises before after long periods of service. I never did understand what his position was with the Wings lately, or how much he contributed to this team's management the last couple of years. For me, we lost Bowman when he retired in 2002. All of your reactions are misplaced and unnecessary.

I hate to make jokes in my own thread, but I couldn't resist. No one has mentioned Ellis-Hussey-Langfeld as of yet. That line had an amazing ability to keep the puck in the zone for the longest time, even though they couldn't get a whiff of a scoring chance out of it. However, due to their cycling game, they should be considered on this list

I'm mixed on this. He had a bad regular season considering he was a top 6 forward on the best team in the league, but he had a good playoff. I guess only time will tell. I was also hoping he'd sign for less, but considering how much other free agent's were overpaid, this shouldn't surprise anyone.

In all seriousness, Lemieux, Jagr and me would be one of the greatest lines ever, and that's not a knock on Kevin Stevens in any way. I thought of that line when I started this thread, but I still wouldn't put them near the top. Also, no one has mentioned the Naslund-Morrissonn-Bertuzzi line as the best they've seen in recent memory. I'd certainly have to put them near the top as far as most dominant lines I've seen. They had a bit of everything on that line with Bert's strength, Naslund's shot, and Morrisson's defensive capabilities.

When did he ever say that? If he was a divealanche homer, he never sounded like it during the broadcasts. Everyone here knows my level of paranoia, and yet even I don't think Thorne was a homer against us.
-
Yeah, I miss Thorne. He belongs as a hockey announcer with his play by play excitement, instead of calling a boring ass, ***** wannabee sport like baseball. However, I doubt espn will let him go.

An idea just came to me. Why doesn't Gary Bettman petition the government to allow Sidney Crosby to be cloned, so that each clone can be donated to every team that plays in a struggling market. This way, there wouldn't be any more struggling markets. Problem solved.
-
Several of those teams should not even exist because of their poor hockey markets. I would love for the Wings to play in the East.
-
I guess I'm still the only one here who thinks that Gaborik is overrated, since no one else has mentioned him. Oh well, I guess you guys know something about him I don't know.
-
As far as Russian lines go, Kharlamov-Mikhailov-Petrov was the best. They were better than the KLM line beleive it or not. The "Production Line" is probably the 1st great line in hockey history, but I've always wondered how much of that credit should go to Gordie Howe alone. That's the only reason I didn't have that line as one of the two greatest.

I'll take Hank any day because I hate Iginla, but in all fairness, Hank has never had to carry a team before. Iginla has always been the lone ranger in Calgary, with no offensive help around him. Imagine if Iginla had Datsyuk to play with him.

His robotic appearance, plus the lockout, plus the fact that hockey has plummetted in ratings with this Versus deal. All these issues have contributed to his low popularity. Everyone in a position of power is going to be automatically hated, but Bettman has only been able to fuel that fire much like Bud Selig has done in baseball. The fact that he kept his job after a lockout is also something most people can't stand. He just has unlimited job security, and some just want to see a change and to forget about this guy already.
-
There's no comparison there either. Gainey is bald, while Staal has a fine head of blonde hair. Also, they wear different numbers.
-
Staal is a lot more fleet of foot than Carbonneau was. Also, he sucks badly at faceoffs, while Carbonneau was one of the best ever. I don't really see the comparison between the two.
-
I've always thought that Gonchar and Zubov were overrated due to their often lax attitude when playing in their own zone, despite their offenisve capabilities. I could say the same thing about Coffey or Leetch, or any other defenseman that was one-dimensional whether it may be offensive or defensive. Yet, I've heard both Zubov and Gonchar mentioned before in previous seasons as possible Norris trophy winners. Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me.
-
Would Hejduk count as a superstar at this point? I've always thought he was overrated unless he has a great set-up man. Just look at the way that bum played against us in the playoffs when he had no one to pass to him. He was useless.
-
I can't believe more people aren't mentioning Saku Koivu. The guy is grossly overrated for the amount of productions he puts up, and hasn't done much to lead his team anywhere beyond the 2nd round. Gaborik is another guy everyone should have mentioned. The guy either plays a phenomenal game or he disappears out there and looks like a soft wuss. Also, he was pitiful in the playoffs for them last year. Underrated would be Mike Richards. That guy is the next great captain of the NHL, just mark my words.

Best & Worst Trade Deadline Deals in Wings History
GMRwings1983 replied to Wings_Fan_in_L.A's topic in General
Cross handed out the greatest beating in recent Wings history (aside from Lilja's fights), so just for that I'll give him some props during his stay here. -
Brashear is actually a pretty talented enforcer, who has more talent than Downey or McCarty, both who played last year for the Red Wings. Bad example by you.

Best & Worst Trade Deadline Deals in Wings History
GMRwings1983 replied to Wings_Fan_in_L.A's topic in General
It's too bad that Yzerman for Yashin trade never happened. That would have made this topic much easier to answer. -
No one will retire. Chris Chelios has convinced everyone to play until they're 50.
-
Thanks for the wonderful insight, Mr. Bettman.

One or two roster spots for enforcers in the regular season wouldn't change anything. In the playoffs, it all depends on who we play. Anyway, it was fun arguing with you guys today, but I have to head out on this Saturday night. However, I will be back tomorrow so that we can prolong this thread some more. Peace.
