Could it be that he has "Brett Favre Syndrome"?
-
Frolov would be on the Russian team ahead of Morozov. I'd have to give them the edge in terms of raw talent and the ability to dazzle someone with the puck.

Good move for the Flames. Roy is a guy that actually had a great year except for that Cote fight. That leaves only a few teams without an enforcer signed for next year.

What's the expectations for Zetterberg this season?
GMRwings1983 replied to Phazon's topic in General
I think there's something to be said about the Wings having a great, high scoring team since the early 90's, and yet not one of those great players we've had in all that time won the Art Ross or the Richard trophy. In my opinion that's because the scoring is usually too spread out over the team for any one guy to rise above the rest of the league in scoring. I don't see it being any different next year. And again, there's his health situation which everyone seems to be overlooking. -

But their team only cares about scoring. The defensive expectations and responsibilities aren't the same. Besides, Lecavalier has shown that he can lead the league in goals before. It's been a long time since a Wing has won the Art Ross, and I don't know if any Wings player has ever led the league in goals. I'm guessing Howe did it before, but I'm not sure. -
Hudler sucks because he doesn't randomly punch people in the face like those big Canadian players always do.

Lemieux's goal against Minnesota in the Finals was the best I've ever seen. Also, that goal Toews scored against the divealanche last year was ridiculously good.

His health is a problem, and the scoring will be too spread out for any Wings player to challenge for an Art Ross. Besides, as much as people here hate him, Crosby will still be the most likely to win that trophy. There's also Ovechkin and now Lecavalier with all those forwards in Tampa. -
Settle down, Beavis. I didn't say we couldn't win without him. I said we couldn't win without guys like him. You just overreacted too soon or misread my post. Sounds like another anti-enforcer comment to me.
-
That might be the most clueless comment in the history of LGW. Without guys like McCarty, the Wings wouldn't have won any Cups. You need guys like that for grit in the playoffs.
-
I thought that Shanahan played with Larionov and Lapointe. Likewise, I remember Fedorov playing with Brown and Kozlov. As far as I can tell, those 2 lines were together for both cup runs.

have any of you ever written to NHL players?

Andreas Lilja and I correspond all the time. -
Damn! He's 30 already? We need to trade this old man for younger players. We don't need anymore veterans on this team.

IIHF suspends Radulov, five other player transfers

We need to go after Fedor Fedorov. That would please the people who want Fedorov on this team, and not disappoint those who are still angry at Sergei for leaving. Ingenious isn't it? -
If you're going to play it that way, then I don't see any extreme pro-enforcer members either.
-
Does anyone remember what this original thread was about, cause I sure as hell don't?
-
All of you anti-enforcer people need to go root for some European team in some European league, and stop promoting softness on the Wings. Meanwhile, I can go root for the Ducks and Flyers like you suggest, and all will be quiet once more.

Laraque is a wrestler and not an enforcer. He doesn't stand up for his teammates, he doesn't enjoy fighting and he hardly ever fights. As far as I'm concerned, Laraque is not an enforcer. It doesn't matter. His name will be on the Cup because he was a part of this team. Kopecky didn't play in the playoffs, and Chelli didn't play in the Finals. Why pick on Downey? You mean someone like Kopecky, who's obviously a monumental player with monumental moments?
-
It doesn't matter what the Celtics did and didn't do. espn would never allow a hockey team to win such an award. They would have given it to the Little League Baseball Champions before they'd give it to the Wings.
-
Downey is a legitimate enforcer. Unless, your'e willing to tell me what is and what isn't a legitimate enforcer?
-
I wasn't flip-flopping. I'm content with Downey, but I'm worried that he won't be a part of this team at all next year. I'd rather have him over nothing. At the same time, Downey isn't exactly my ideal enforcer, and yes he is an enforcer despite what you might think. However, there are other enforcers I'd rather have and I've constantly mentioned their names on here. As I've said all along, I want fighting for entertainment purposes, and because it's good to have someone for retribution when the other team starts something. It's not necessary for winning, but it does deter cheapshots somewhat, which is why teams have had enforcers for decades. Certain posters here disregard that, and behave as if teams throughout history have only dressed enforcers for the hell of it. In my opinion, that's not giving those teams enough credit. No one would dress an enforcer if they didn't feel it was necessary. The fact that we finish last in fights is disturbing, but that's because Downey, Lija and Drake were the only ones fighting and at least 2 of those 3 will probably not be a part of this team. I'd like it if more of our guys fought, but what the hell. Maybe an elite enforcer would give us around 15-20 fights a year by himself. I just got on you because your post made it sound like we didn't have an enforcer at all next year, and that isn't true. We did have one and it turned out well in the end. Nothing wrong with the team having another one slightly better and still getting the same result in the end.
-
Maybe I fell off the moon, but didn't we have an enforcer last year by the name of Downey, and one more by the name of McCarty in the playoffs? This year, I'm worried that we'll have neither. Stop treating Downey like he wasn't even part of the team last year.

The Hurricanes should be forced to wear those Whalers jerseys, especially since their current jersey sucks ass.
-
Nice rant, but you needn't have typed so much or included needless insults. I've been called out before for wanting an enforcer, when people tell me to go root for other teams and s*** like that. Ub fact you just did it yourself. Thus, I don't see any reason why I can't call out people who don't like enforcers. I'm glad we won the Cup, but once again I'll say this for the 100th time, it had nothing to do with not having an enforcer in the lineup. I think the players and the fans at the JLA wouldn't mind having a tough guy in there. Stop bringing the Stanley Cup into this and making it sound like I'm not happy with the Cup victory. I've been consistent throughout in my position on this, and it never depended on this team's success in the playoffs. I'll be happy if we win the Cup every year without an enforcer, but I have to have my grumblings from time to time. It's just a part of the game I like and I want my favorite team to have that like everyone else does.

No love for Larionov around here? The guy was instrumental all throughout the 90's and up until the time he retired.
