So does every team in the league that has carried an enforcer for the last 40 yers qualify as meatheads also?
-
No problem. Just keep setting me up beautifully, and I'll eat it up with a spoon each time.
-
Why doom? Teams have been doing that for 40 years. Just because the Wings don't do it doesn't mean nobody else does. Jesus Christ people there's 29 other teams in the league. Some people here make it sound like everyone else is dumb for dressing enforcers, while the Wings have it all figured out by not dressing any.
-
Unfortunately, not. Enforcers never even come close to winning any awards, especially this one.
-
With that said, a lot of teams still believe in the old school part of hockey, but it's disappointing that several others don't. It amazes me how many Wings fans on this board assume that the Wings shouldn't fight just because they're winning, not realizing that our winning has nothing to do with whether we fight or not. The Ducks won the Cup last year as a fighting team, so it's not like it can't be done. I know, however, that if we do become a tougher team somehow, no one, including the anti-fighting posters will complain one damn bit about it.

If Nick wins 10 Norris trophies he still won't be as good as Bobby Orr. Bobby Orr could win a game all by himself, and could do anything he wanted to do out there on the ice at will. He was physically and mentally way better than anyone else. Lidstrom is great, but he can't win a game all by himself the way Orr could, and can't just embarass people out there the way Orr could. The man was a God and a phenom, the likes of which the game will never see again. With that said, I can see Nick passing Harvey or tying him in Norrises, cementing him in my opinion as the 2nd best ever. However, number 1 is reserved. Also, I think Phaneuf will be the toughest competition, because he's a scoring machine. Likewise, look for Pronger to be a candidate again after having a year off in the Norris balloting.

It would have beaten the pants off of having to watch Kopecky skate in circles all year. And in case anyone posts this. No, it wouldn't have prevented us from winning the Cup.
-
Now he can wrestle with Dion Phaneuf in the shower.
-
I'm glad he didn't come here. Clearly Kopecky is a better player and a better fighter than Asham is, as the stats so obviously show.

Will Datsyuk/Zetterberg become a PPG player this year?

You forgot to mention a possible 300 PIM's for Lilja. The "PAIN TRAIN" will be out for blood this year. -
Nobody said you have to have fight to win. All some people are saying is that there's something degrading about being known as the pussiest team in the league. The Wings have been that way for years, and it's not like we win the Cup every year despite that, so don't bring up the Stanley Cup as an excuse for why we shouldn't fight. It's just entertaining to watch and puts people in the seats. Some of us like that part of the game and there's nothing wrong with that.

That picture makes me miss the old days when Feds was playing on the Wings and Anna was still in the spotlight.

Red Wings To Play Blackhawks In Winter Classic
GMRwings1983 replied to RedWingsFanatic's topic in General
Robert Lang will score 5 goals in that game, including an end to end rush in OT, which will be remembered as the greatest goal ever. Also, Lilja will KO Patrick Sharp, who will come back later in the game only to get KO'd by Kopecky. Mark my words. These things will happen! -
Yes, he will.

Therrien is an idiot, but you don't have to be a great coach to win the Stanley Cup. Would anyone consider Bob Hartley, Peter Laviolette or John Tortorella as great coaches? I sure as hell don't.

Obligatory forward lines thread for next season

Done? When has Babcock ever scracthed Sammy in favor of Hudler? -
Didn't you hear? I'm supposedly a Thrasher fan as another poster so eloquently put. Seriously, though, I'd just have to find a new player to heavily market for my amusement. However, why would we trade away a fighter who went undefeated last year, and won all his fights without even having to throw a punch?
-
How am I being pessimistic? All I said is that I wish we had more toughness but that Holland doesn't usually go that route. As soon as I posted that, a bunch of posters started making annoying posts about how I don't like the fact that we won the Cup and that I should go root for the Thrashers of all teams. Too many posters here jump to idiotic conclusions too quickly. Kind of like you just did, Crymson.
-
I'd love to have Neil, especially since Tucker and Avery are now both in the West. He's not a heavy, and he did get beat up by Lilja last year, but that's nothing to be ashamed of. Neil would be a good addition to our team.
-
Trade Lidstrom for Boogaard. That would clear up more cap space and get us that enforcer we all wanted.
-
You guys are f'ing unbeilivable you know that. Root for other teams?
-
What is it with you guys? You're all acting like a bunch of pansies. I didn't say we need toughness to win the Cup. I just enjoy the physical part of the game, and I want to see this team do a little more in that department. You guys need to get your heads out of Holland's ass and be a little more objective. Too many LGW members become convinced that fighting is somehow bad for hockey just because the Wings haven't done much of it over the years. And where the hell did this Thrashers B.S. come from?
-
I doubt either of them is going to get any significant time next year unless there's injuries. You shut up. I didn't say we needed those guys to contend, I just want to see a little more toughness next year. Is that too much to ask? It is, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see the Wings ever dress tough guys again. Some of you have a hard time understanding that having toughness around is not a bad thing, nor does it prevent winning.
-
If Flip leaves, expect to see Sammy continue playing on the 2nd line.

I heard somewhere that Melrose wanted to bring Roy back, but I don't know what his current status is since they added Koci. Roy at this point is a more talented player than Mac or Downey, and is a better fighter than either. Ryan Flinn is pretty much finished in the NHL, and Lessard is a nutcase who Holland would never think about signing. Also, what is the status on D.J. King? As far as I know, he's still on the Blues but I wasn't sure.
