I'd love to have Gratton or Asham, but unfortunately because they fight they, will have no place on this team as far as Holland is concerned.

On paper the Wings are the best team in the league, but as we've found out in the past, that means nothing. The regular season won't answer any questions either. With the Wings it's all going to come down to one thing, and that's the playoffs. Until then we'll just argue over meaningless stuff throughout the regular season.

I wonder if other teams' fans hate Burke the way Wings fans do?

Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan is the place for an NHL team.

Didn't Thornton win it a couple of years ago, and Forsberg and Sakic several years before that?

This kind of sucks since the league just lost one of its all time greats to a league that has no business competing with the NHL. This might be the beginning of a bad trend where superstar European players start going back to Europe to finish their careers. Also, I would have loved to see how many points he could wind up with before his career ended. I always thought he could crack the top 5 all time in scoring.

I remember back when this guy used to have a feared shot from the point and was a devastating bodychecker. It's amazing how far he's fallen in the last few years, and should have clearly retired by now.

The Rangers are a lock to win the Cup now.

I lived there for a long time, and your'e part right, part wrong. The rednecks and football part is right. NASCAR isn't as popular in Kansas City as it is in the South. College basketball is also huge there with Missouri and Kansas and the Big 12. Also, baseball is quite popular, just because it's an American sport, even though the Royals suck. The new arena looks awesome, but still I have a hard time seeing hockey succeed there, since even baseball can't draw any fans there in the regular season unless the Cardinals are in town.

I hope Franzen stays with 93. It's a cooler number than 39, and not many players wear numbers in the 90's.

I don't expect them to do much this year, but they definitely have more of a blue-collar team now with hard working, grinding players.

Do the Recent Signings get Butts in the Seats this Year?
GMRwings1983 replied to Firehawk's topic in General
Ridiculous prices, European players, and spoiled jaded fans are the reason the Joe has so many empty seats. Add to that all the corporate seats that are sold. I don't think it's any one reason more than another, but instead it's a combination of all those reasons. -
Obligatory forward lines thread for next season

"The Game" would make a great enforcer. However, Hank is Zetterberg's nickname, and not his last name like for Hossa and Holmstrom. -
THat's a great post, but most people here on LGW would ignore all those stats and stick to their view that having an enforcer is a waste of a roster spot. They're just adamant in their views without budging, even though stats like that disprove their point.

Obligatory forward lines thread for next season

Hey, that's not fair. You're stealing my jokes. -
I've felt this way for a long time, because it seems like many Wings fans hate fighting because they've become so accustomed to having a soft team that doesn't fight. Some people here actually believe that the Wings signing an enforcer would become detrimental to their winning, even though it worked out with Downey last year. How quickly people forget things.

Obligatory forward lines thread for next season
GMRwings1983 replied to LidstromIsASuperhero's topic in General
Why do you guys constantly include that bum Kopecky in your line combos? Helm is better than him, or you could also use that spot for an enforcer. Kopecky is the most overrated player on LGW. -
I want an enforcer in Detroit purely for entertainment value, and to retaliate against teams who run our top stars. Yes, I know enforcers don't play in the playoffs, but I don't have a problem with that. I just want someone exciting to watch in the regular season in the toughness department. Some of you anti-fighters here make me sick with your pacifist view on hockey. Everyone else has an enforcer but for some reason we shouldn't. Why? And don't come back at me with that last year's s***, because us winning or not winning the Cup has nothing to do with having an enforcer or not. I swear, our fans have become the most cream puff fans in the NHL due to all these years of finishing last in fighting majors.

Wow! I just got back from work, and when someone told me Hossa was moved to the West, I assumed it was Edmonton. I guess something must have changed in a day. I doubt we'll have him for any more than a year with Hank's contract coming up, so we better use him well while we have him. We're not locks to win the Cup, because winning the Cup is difficult, but we're certainly the heavy favorite right now.

You haven't been watching hockey long have you?

Wings out of picture for Sundin, Hossa, Rolston
GMRwings1983 replied to Redwingsfan18's topic in General
Their chances are better than most teams in the East. -
Richard has the most as a player, but Beliveau has the most ever, because he appears many times as an executive. As the poster below said, Beliveau appears 17 times on the Cup.

Hossa isn't old enough to be "dying for a Cup" as you put it. He would have already re-signed for less in Pittsburgh if all he wanted was to win. -
One. Which person has their name engraved on the Stanley Cup more than anyone else?

It sounds like everyone is dying more to make money than win a Cup. The exception may be Sundin, but I'm beginning to wonder how much he cares about winning the Cup.
