The divealanche would be crazy to want to play us, since they don't match up well against us, they can't beat us in their own building, and they're coached by Joel Quenneville, who couldn't beat us if the life of his family depended on it. Honestly, though, other than the Wings, the divealanche are in my opinion the best team in the West right now even over San Jose. It all comes down to matchups, and I think we match up better with the divealanche than we do against either the Sharks or the Flames.

I just wanted to get your guys' thoughts on who was our best player in this series. For me it's Datsyuk. He was awesome in all 3 zones, and constantly danced around their defense out there creating chances. Also, he battled defensively like there was no tomorrow. Personally, I've never seen him play better and lead more by example. The next best player of the series for me, believe it or not was Hudler, and the stats probably show the same. However, Datsyuk is still the MVP as far as I'm concerned.

Sammy is doing nothing differently now than when you were defending him. The only role he filled was that of a seat filler, and not someone who stepped up and took care of our secondary scoring. Yeah, the youth has stepped it up on this team, but to me Sammy should lose his spot to Maltby not because someone else has stepped it up, but because he's never done anything. As I posted earlier, I enjoy watching him play in the regular season for comical humor, but in the playoffs everything is serious, and his goofy moves and unusual style of offensive play isn't something I take pleasure in watching in these types of games. He must be a healthy scratch.

How about the Panthers playing the Coyotes outdoors where the Arizona Cardinals used to play? I think it was Sun Devils Stadium.
-
Hey at least he didn't come close to killing anybody out there on the ice. Seriously, though, at this point in his career he's just a decent player, and actually has been for several seasons removed from his superstars days in Vancouver. Burke definitely overpayed him.

How dare you sign on under Opie's name and make these posts on his computer? I hope Opie finds out about this.

Do the AP writers have something against the Wings?

Luck is the most important thing in life, so if we got lucky, then I'm fine with that. We've been unlucky too many times in the past few years. -
Not necessarily scared, but if it comes down to picking poison, Calgary is a physical team that's hard to beat on the road, while Colorado is a soft team, who we own in their building.
-
He's switching too much to his backhand, sometimes when it's unecessary. To me that suggests that something is seriously wrong. On the 2-on-1 today, he cut inside to the backhand instead of shooting. He's usually smarter than that.

Sammy has as many goals as Maltby so far in the playoffs, and one less goal than McCarty. There's no way either of those fan favorites sit for Sammy. If he's not scoring, which he isn't, what else does he bring to this team? It's funny watching him look foolish in the regular season, but in playoff time, I don't feel like laughing when he costs us a scoring chance or a turnover.

Does anyone know offhand what the Wings streak is currently after today's win as far as closing out a series. From what I can remember, the last time we lost a game with a chance to eliminate someone was in 1998 against Dallas, when Langenbrunner scored on Ozzie. I just don't remember what the exact number is. I guess we only need 3 wins to win a series, while everyone else needs 4.
-
Either way you look at it, that's very impressive, because in sports the saying is that the hardest one to win is the last one. I guess the hardest for the Wings to win always seems to be the 3rd one.

Ellis wasn't hot. He gave up bad rebounds, looked foolish in challenging the shooter too much, and gave up that goal to Lidstrom today.
-
Too early for this. He played better the last 2 games, but did nothing the rest of the series. Let's see how it all plays out, and keep in mind that Quincey and Ericsson are supposedly the future of this team on defense.
-
I just counted on my own, and it came out to 12 straight. We lost to Dallas in game 5, but we came back and elminated them in game 6, which is when the streak started. I might be wrong, though. Where's Eva when I need him?
-
I'd have to agree, because it looks like he's passing up on wristshots and one-timers, to make passes or put the puck on his backhand. It's too obvious not to notice.
-
Hey, I'll admit gladly that I was wrong. I want him to play well, because it helps our secondary scoring tremendously, especially since Hank and Homer haven't scored for a while now. My criticism of him was when he went into the tank the 2nd part of the season, and rightfully so. But he's definitely a threat now, and I can't believe that him and Draper are having great chemistry, since they're two completely different players.
-
Also if Cagary wins, that means some of us will have another year of watching CBC homers on Versus announcing the road games. I don't need that right now with my stress level.

How can you even mention Helm along with Hartigan? He did more today than Hartigan has done in his whole NHL career. You can't reward him by benching him when there's worse players who are dressed in the lineup.

Ali wasn't even close to being the best pound for pound boxer ever, and Joe Louis is the best heavyweight ever. I know this thread isn't about Ali, but each time I hear someone call him that I cringe. Amongst most boxing experts, he's not the greatest ever.
-
But he brings something to the table defensively. Sammy hasn't played poor, it's just that he looks foolish out there offensively. I know Babcock likes him, but the way Helm played today I'm beginning to question Babcock's decision making skills in not playing Helm earlier in the series or during the season. Could Kopecky or Hartigan have looked as good out there today as Helm? To me Maltby replaces Sammy by process of elimination, since everyone else serves a purpose.

The divealanche are coached by our ***** Joel Queerville, we've dominated them in recent memory, and they don't have that big, physical team that the Wings usually struggle against. If we play Calgary, we have to worry again about winning on the road in a tough environment. We always win in Colorado. It's a no-brainer to me.
-
What's the deal with Zetterberg? He seems to have little confidence in his shot, and is constantly passing up shots just to go to the backhand and drive the net. He's starting to look like Sammy out there offensively with that backhanded move. He needs to shoot more, and think less.
-
If our guys were shooting for s*** they couldn't get a wiff. Even Lidstrom had no aim on his shot. Flip's chance was the best of the game though. He scored on a perfect shot in game 5, and then comes back with that pathetic tap-in in game 6. What is he smoking?
