If this team finishes 1st and then loses in the 1st round of the playoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if the rumors start flying around about his firing. I still don't think it would happen, though.

That's hypocritical. You could say everyone is trying to convince someone of something in their posts. I don't think I was trying to convince anyone any more than you are with your rose-colored glasses. I just write what I feel, and people can take it for whatever it's worth. I just think it's ridiculous when someone's fan loyalty is questioned just because they think this team has a limited chance to win it all.

The bottom line is that other than Cleary, we have no consistent scorers on our 2nd line heading into the playoffs. Actually, Cleary is hurt, so we don't even know if we'll have him in the playoffs. Flip, Sammy, Franzen and Hudler have shown that they can disappear completely while they're on the ice. I just hope they don't all disappear at the same time, like we've seen them do lately.

That doesn't mean I'm not going to be rooting for the Wings and rooting for the Ducks instead. When can we finally see someone criticize the Wings on this site without being told to go root for Florida or Tampa, or something like that? I hate Burke and the Ducks. Being a fan doesn't mean you have to take all the medicine they give you. This isn't Jonestown.

This Stuart clearly isn't cutting it for us right now. He did nothing for us yesterday in Edmonton, and I'm tired of his useless play. Holland needs to trade this guy before he costs us any more games.

Yes I do. Having your top 4 defensemen out means the same thing for all teams. It means they have to call up guys that aren't regulars. It appears that Edmonton's backups were better than ours. We've seen the Wings constantly get beat in the playoffs by teams they're a lot more talented than, but who have hot goalies. All I meant in my post is that it'd be nice if Ozzy the all-star GOD as he's made out to be here on LGW, would steal a few games for us when we're undermanned. That, unfortunately hasn't happened.

Hudler hasn't exactly been lighting up the scoreboard, thus there's no reason to reward him with more ice time. If he steps it up consistently, then I'll change my mind.

As I said yesterday, Lilja should convert to forward and replace Hudler. With his grit and tougness he'd be a good 4th line winger that will allow Ericsson to be moved up as a regular to see if Ericsson can hack it for the next 2 months before the playoffs. Also this way no one would have to whine anymore about how Lilja has dumb giveaways and can't play defense with his s***ty positioning. Then the roster would consist of Lilja, Downey, McCarty, Stuart and Ericsson all as regulars when we play the Ducks to match their toughess.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ericsson playing over Lebda. Our defense will look a lot bigger overall with him and Stuart added to the lineup. Besides, even though Lebda is a great skater, he can't do much of anything else. Let's see what this Ericsson kid can do by giving him playoff time much like what Lebda got 2 years ago against Edmonton. I think it's fair to say that back then people thought Lebda would become much better of a player than what he is now. Lebda should become the 8th defenseman.

I know the Ozzie homers here will bash me for this, but he hasn't cut it lately. Although he hasn't played poorly, he was an all-star and got GOD-like status here on LGW just for winning games when we were outshooting teams 40-15 every night. Now when we need him to steal some games like "elite" goalies always do, he gets outplayed by Garon of all people. In fact, the only win he has in his last 7 or 8 games is against Colorado, who we beat 4-0. I know we have injuries, but if he's as good a goalie as people around here think he is, then he sure isn't showing it now that the chips are low and the team really needs him, especially with Hasek hurt. Apparently he only looks good when the guys around him are playing well. P.S. I know some idiot posters will tell me to root for Tampa instead of complaining about our goaltending, but don't even bother.

As I've been saying all year, he plays best right after he drops the gloves, and that's what he has to do to avoid all this criticism. He's 3-0 in fights this year, and everyone keeps dodging him, so maybe he just needs to jump someone and pound away on them. That'll get him ready for the playoffs just like it did last year.

I'll agree with you somewhat, but I just don't want to see another President's trophy coupled with a 1st round playoff exit. I've seen too many of those already with this team.

I'm afraid that's out of the question due to my meager salary.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood. Although Hartigan hasn't done anything to deserve being in there either. I've just developed an idea that since Lilja has become somewhat of an enforcer, he should be made a winger, since that's where enforcers have traditionally been dressed. Our defense has enough depth now anyway. He could be that gritty Canadian winger that we all wanted at the deadline.

Thank you for that. It's good to see that someone here actually has enough memory not to make blind excuses about injuries when this team struggled even before all that.

On the bright side Lilja is still here, thus I'll still have my mascot to amuse me from time to time.

I don't think the NHL will allow us to play 5 lines in the playoffs.
