As I posted above, every player if they felt like it, could take the ASG off to spend time with their family. That doesn't give him an excuse to abstain from the game. He's not the only player with a family. It's a big game for the league, and a good opportunity to market its stars. I'm pretty sure Luongo is more of a marketable star than Osgood or Leclaire.

That's a pretty skewed post. The rest of their forwards are grossly underachieving, just look up the stats if you don't believe me. Also, as a team they're near the bottom of the league in scoring for crying out loud. Who would have expected that before the season? As a whole, the NYR top 6 has done jack s*** this year. I don't know how anyone can argue that? Lundqvist is their whole team right now.

Oh, that silly Bob Clarke on that silly Steve Downie

Tie Domi always smiled during fights. As if that makes anyone feel better about him. -
Shutouts is all anyone seems to care about anymore, so Leclaire will probably get picked. Also, I bet you any of the players selected to the game could have opted out and gone somewhere with their families. I don't think that gives Luongo an excuse to miss the game, especially since so many people voted for him.

As I've said before, if he was a left-handed shot, he probably wouldn't be bashed at all on these forums. He's the only right-handed shot we have at forward, who's expected to score. Personally, I don't mind the bashing, because it gives us something to talk about on LGW besides Osgood vs. Hasek.

Why are so many people getting riled up about what that s***bag Bobby Clarke said? This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, since he's the same guy that purposely went out on the ice to break someone's leg. f*** Bobby Clarke. He hid his whole career behind the toughest team in the league, so he never knew what retribution is. I don't agree with what Downie did, but the Leafs should have dressed a tougher lineup. That's the only way to deal with teams like the Flyers. The next time the 2 teams play, someone on the Leafs should suckerpunch a Flyer player, or else stop whining about it. -
I love Mac, but I seriously doubt that he'd be much better here than in Calgary during his last year. He's not a top fighter anymore, and we know he can't score. Yeah, he might be more useful than Kopecky, Drake, or Ellis, but that's not saying much. I've been saying all year that we need to go after either a physical D-man, or a top 6 forward. There's no reason now to make this move. He doesn't give us anything we need.

I actually didn't like the way our top 2 lines played last night. The problem with putting Sammy on the top 2 lines is that either Cleary or Hudler must lose ice time. The problem with putting him on the 3rd or 4th line is that he isn't a grinder. I think it'd be worth a shot, however, to play him with Draper and Maltby. Neither of those guys can shoot either, so Sammy wouldn't be taking anything away from them.

Emery would be a fan favorite everywhere. That is, until he gets into the net, then his popularity drops off with soft goal after soft goal.

That NYR top 6 you mention has done jack s*** this year. If it wasn't for Lundqvist, they'd have the worst record in the league. Carolina plays 5 forwards on their 1st PP unit, so Samsonov will likely get time with the 2nd unit. You're looking more at big names on paper rather than production when you mention the NYR. The reason Carolina struggles is because their defense and their goaltending sucks, so I'm still going to stick to my comment about them having the best top 6 in the league.

Yeah, and I just posted that in another thread. Also Gump Lorsley and Rogie Vachon were another great tandem. How about Hasek and Cujo?

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?
GMRwings1983 replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Terry Sawchuk and Glenn Hall are the best goaltending tandem in history. Some others to consider are Grant Fuhr/Andy Moog, and Gump Lorsley/Rogie Vachon. I can't put Hasek at this point in his career and Chris Osgood as the best tandem in history over Sawchuk/Hall. -
Good win tonight. I wasn't impressed with the line combos, because the chemistry seemed to be lacking. Hopefully, they'll get that fixed. I'd switch Homer and Hudler around on the lines. Hasek looked really good tonight, and it seems that Babcock is intent on moving him into the starting position. That's just the way it seems to me.

This is the hardest award to judge, especially if you watch games on TV and not in person. It's difficult to notice how hard a guy plays off the puck defensively, unless you're only paying attenition to that 1 guy. I'd certainly think that Datsyuk should be a candidate this year.

This game is definitely reminding me of the Blues game on New Years Eve. This team needs to pick it up on both sides of the ice.
-
Look at one of my posts from above, and also check their team's stats to see the numbers that top 6 is putting up. As for Samsonov, he won't crack the top 6, I was just saying that his stats might be boosted if he gets some PP time, and then he might earn more playing time. That part of my post was pure speculation.

The Rangers forwards are horrible this year, while neither the Wings nor Senators are getting the type of production from their top 6 that Carolina is getting. If you don't believe me, just look up their stats.
-
I'd also pick Luongo. A goalie is more important than anything else, including coaching, defenseman, forwards, etc. We've seen goalies steal games and playoff series too many times to say otherwise.
-
Brindamour, Staal, Cullen, Williams, Cole, Stillman, Whitney. Those guys are all putting up great numbers, just look up their stats if you don't believe me. Yeah none of them are as good as Pavel or Hank, but overall their forward lineup is much stronger than ours. None of our 2nd or 3rd liners are averaging as much points per game as those guys.
-
We all know Ovechkin and Kovalchuk will be on the team, so this doesn't really matter. The starters will be on the ice for a grand total of 45 seconds to start the game, and then the lines will change. It's not a big deal.
-
Expect the divealanche to play hard tonight with Sakic and Smyth out. Still, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't win. I predict a 3-1 victory for the Wings.
-
Gill is a waste of size if there ever was one. He's slow, he's not a great fighter, and he turns the puck over a lot. He's a slightly bigger version of Cory Cross. I'd love to have Jovanovski, but the price tag is too high. I don't expect Holland to make any big splashes, even if the other teams out West do.
-
Well, if he can't score playing for the Canes, he won't be able to score anywhere. They've got the best group of forwards in the league, so that might just revive him from his coma.
-
Thanks for the info guys. That just proves my point, because the '77 team had 12 ties, so imagine what they could have done with those 12 ties if there was overtime and a shootout. I just don't see how anyone can say it doesn't make a difference.

He's their best forward right now, and Modano and Zubov aren't getting any younger, so it's not a bad move.
