What professional non NHLer would you like to sign?
GMRwings1983 replied to BeeRYCE's topic in General
Link Gaetz. The "missing link" would solve our team toughness crap right away. -
So you don't mind if this team finishes 1st each year and doesn't make it to the finals. I think that's a big deal. If this was just some team that finished in the middle of the pack each year, then it's a different story. And this team should use the 80's as an example to what it doesn't ever want to regress to. There are other teams I root for in sports that are just as bad as the 80's Wings teams, so I don't only root for success. I'm just saying that this team should have more than 3 cups under its belt.
-
Is Link Gaetz still playing hockey? He'd be a pretty good addition to our blue line.
-
What the hell are you talking about? What bandwagon? I've been a Wings fan for over 10 years now, so there is no bandwagon. I was merely saying that this team doesn't have the starpower as previous teams. 3 Hall of Famers is still less than what we've had in the past. And yes I do judge this team's success based on what happens in the playoffs. That doesn't mean I'm a bandwagon jumper. I'll still be a Wings fan whether we win or lose. You either didn't read my post carefully, or you have no clue what you're talking about.

I can't see how they'd go toe to toe with that team. Both teams were hungry, and that team was far more talented. Let's not forget that the Wings have finished 1st in the West the last 3 seasons, and missed the finals each time. It's too early to canonize this team yet.

You guys might hate this answer, but until playoff time, we won't know what the difference is between this team and other Wings teams. Only if this team gets past the WCF, can we say that they're better than last year's team. Let's face it, on paper this is the worst Wings team since the early 90's. Right now they're rolling, but I'm waiting for the playoffs, because the regular season means nothing around hockeytown.
-
I think it's definitely worth a try. Hell, this team has nothing else to play for right now. They might as well try to jumble the lines around just to be ready for any adjustments come playoff time, or God forbid, injuries.
-
Would you have the same adivce for opposing fans going to Raiders games? Just try to bust out that road jersey in the "Black Hole"
-
Crosby has inspired the whole team to fight better. First Malone, then Ruutu. Pretty soon we'll see Malkin KO someone in a fight.
-
With him in the lineup, they're the best team in the league on paper, bar none. They already have the best defense in the league. Yeah, I know they've sucked this year, but no Wings fan in their right mind can tell me that you wouldn't be apprehensive about us facing them in the 1st round of the playoffs which might very well happen. I know championships aren't won on paper, but this team has already proven that it can win a Cup, so this isn't good news for the rest of the West.

Huselius is Swedish, so he'd fit in nicely, but Calgary won't trade him for 2 guys that combined don't have as many points as he does.
-
Too bad I don't live in Detroit. I'd love to get my favorite current enforcer's autograph. Oh well, I just hope one of you guys can shake his hand for me.
-
He might miss the empty net on many occassions. Without the goalie's crest to aim at, he won't have any reason to shoot at that empty net.
-
Of course not. He's North American and he's over 6'3. No chance he ever cracks the Wings lineup.
-
Does this mean that Sammy won't be on the all-star team? But I thought he was an "Elite" player. No, you're wrong. Babcock will put him on the team and then we can see Sammy in the "most accurate shooter" contest.
-
Fair enough for feeling that way, but I just have a personal bias against their fans, and Blues fans. I'm not blaming him for rooting for his team, I just don't like his team. I don't remember stating that I blame their fans for being passionate towards their team.
-
Too generous of a grading list. I wish I had teachers like that in school. What does a player have to do to get a D, shoot the puck into his own net on purpose on more than one occassion?
-
Nice rant, but I'm not going to change for anyone, especially for a divealanche fan who's telling me to grow up. If you don't like me that's good, because I don't like any divelanche fans either, so it's only fair.
-
How pathetic is Tucker in that fight against Ruutu. After this, Tucker should never drop the gloves again.
-
I still don't think he's afraid, though. I remember a few years ago Brashear turtled against Dingman in the playoffs. Do you think he was afraid of Dingbat? Of course not, he could have torn him to shreds if he wanted to. You're right about him being weird at times, but that isn't fear, it's just Brashear pissing off fight fans like he always likes to do.
-
This is all just part of the "team toughness" that Babcock is trying to preach. Don't be surprised if Hudler grows a beard now or Sammy starts walking around with stitches all over his face to look tougher.
-
I don't know how I'll be able to sleep tonight knowing that the divelanche have been cursed this way.
-
I honestly don't care where we wind up in the standings. I'm just worried about the health of this team. This season reminds me of the '96, '04, or '06 season, where this team set all sorts of records, and I had a hard time envisioning how they could lose in the playoffs those years. Now that I'm convinced the regular season is meaningless for the Wings, I won't be satisfied till we win the Cup. This team looks like it'll finish with the most points in the league for 4 straight seasons. We know what happened the other 3 times.
-
How about an outdooor game in Florida each year between the Lightning and Panthers. They could have girls roller skating around the rink in bikinis during the time it takes to attend to the ice. Knowing Bettman's incredible marketing skills, I'm sure he could sell the idea.
-
I wouldn't mind having a guy like McGrattan here, especially since I hear that Ottawa is shopping him around. Yes, I know he's not going to score in the playoffs, but I seriously doubt that his offensive production would be much worse than Kopecky, Drake, Ellis, or even Downey. Those of you who want an enforcer that can also contribute offensively need to get real. There aren't such guys around.
