    Flip article

That was a good read about Flip. I'm glad he's finally playing like some expected him to before the season. Once again, though, there was something in there about Drake mentoring Kopecky, and I hope by now Kopecky realizes that he should get his mentoring from someone who's actually contributing to the team.

    Thank you LGW !

Hopefully, next year at this time we'll have a 4th cup to brag about.

    An actual, plausible trade proposal

I've had a few too many drinks this morning to piece all that out, but it looks good on its face. But what would you do with Sammy now that we'd have all those stars? We can't let an "Elite" talent like him rot on the 4th line.

McCarty close to signing with Generals

I love how this has turned into a fight thread all of a sudden. Grimson didn't reach his peak until about '97 or '98, but even when he was in Detroit, I'd take him over McCarty. Grimson had enormous reach and great power. Yeah, he had some bad losses here and there, and his balance sucked at times, but I can't put Mac in his class.

    An actual, plausible trade proposal

Alright, how about Lilja for Lundqvist? With a great stay at home defenseman like Lilja, they won't need a top notch goalie anymore right?

    coyotes fans

I didn't know they had any fans down there. But what to do you expect? Those fans don't know s*** about hockey, so they just show off their NASCAR IQ by throwing beers. Hey, right about now I'd love to hear any chants at the Joe, just to know that the fans are still awake and the arena is somewhat full.

    An actual, plausible trade proposal

God, how many times has Lilja already been traded here on LGW? It seems like every player in the league has been traded for him already on these forums. And don't even get me started on Sammy.

    Osgood close to signing extension

This is great news. Now we can finally trade Sammy for Ovechkin at the deadline. They're both about the same size, both European, both right-handed shots, and both love to shoot the puck. That seems like a win-win situation for both teams in my mind. I'm also glad about Ozzie. Who would have thought before the season that we'd be dying to have him re-signed.

    Sergei Samsonov on Waivers

In that case, he's not very adept at playing through injuries like athletes have to do. Yeah, stats can decrease with injuries, but in his case, the stats have completely disappeared. I attribute it to a lack of tougness and work ethic, because he's unable to play through pain.

Was Babs pumping up Sammys image for a reason?

Looking at Babcock's description without knowing who he was referring to, I'd think that he was talking about my ideal deadline acquisition. A guy who's 6'2, 215 pounds, who plays great on both sides of the ice and is and ELITE player. Sammy would be the last guy I'd think he was referring to.

    The Fight Thread

Hey, most of the guys in my top 10 came before my time. I don't know if you've ever been on dropyourgloves.com, but they've recently added videos to many of the fights, so you'll be able to see footage of some of the early 80's fights. Also, you can always type player names into youtube and get some fight videos from the old days.

    Who do we fear

If I had to pick a team, I'd pick Chicago. They have a goalie that always plays well against us, they've owned us this year, and worst of all, they have the great closer Robert Lang.

    Who do we fear

I'm afraid of any young team full of jobbers and a hot goalie that no one has ever heard of. I guess I've been traumatized over the years from being a Wings fan.
  14. GMRwings1983

    rob blake

We should definitely get him, because he won the Norris Trophy back in '98, and even though I've been in a coma since then, I'm assuming that he's still as good as he was 10 years ago.
  15. GMRwings1983

Was Babs pumping up Sammys image for a reason?

Elite player? Great defensively? And why would Babcock mention that Sammy's 6'2 since he plays with no tougness whatsoever? None of those descriptions are fitting. The only thing I can think of is that maybe Babcock is just trying to boost Sammy's confidence.

    Sergei Samsonov on Waivers

By character I meant laziness and lack of effort. Anytime a guy with that much talent is doing nothing on the scoreboard, you have to attribute it to a poor work ethic. It's not bad luck or bad teammates, because all those things eventually even out.

    The Fight Thread

Just for the record, what is your top 10 all time? Mine consists mostly of guys that played in the toughest era of hockey, and were the most feared during that era. Hence, there's no room for guys like Brashear. Here's my list: 1. Bob Probert 2. Behn Wilson 3. Dave Brown 4. Clark Gillies 5. Nick Fotiu 6. Joey Kocur 7. Larry Playfair 8. Bob Nystrom 9. Tie Domi 10. Tony Twist

    12/29 GDT: Red Wings 4, Coyotes 2

I'm sure Wayne will get over it when he gets home and realizes that he's Wayne Gretzky. It's hard to feel sorry for him. The officiating was pathetic, though, but that's the "new NHL" as they like to call it.

    Sergei Samsonov on Waivers

Fedorov's problem now is old age, not his character. Samsonov problem has always been his character. That's the way I see it.

    The Fight Thread

Comrie looked great last night. I guess him an Hilary Duff must have had a disagreement and he was just taking it out on Mottau. As for Brashear, I've never really liked him, but I'm beginning to think more and more that he should be considered for top 10 all-time status. I know he hugs a lot and he's boring as s***, but he's been dominant for a very long time, and that's hard to do as an enforcer.

The difference between DET and CBJ Announcers

That s***bag you allude to is now the Blues announcer, and I've had to listen to that retard during several Blues-Wings broadcasts this year.
  22. I'm glad he's hurt, because I doubt divealanche fans felt sorry when Stevie was hurt all those times at the end of his career. I will say that he's one of the few guys I don't hate on that team, but if we play them in the playoffs, he'll still be the player I'm most worried about, so I hope he doesn't come back.
  23. GMRwings1983

    Sergei Samsonov on Waivers

There's a lot of teams that are sorry because they put too much stock into those exact attributes you mention. If a guy has no heart, those other things don't matter.
  24. GMRwings1983

    Sergei Samsonov on Waivers

He's never been anything more than a guy who was great at handling the puck and could score from time to time. The problem was that his work ethic and self-motivation were non-existent. He'll probably wind up playing back in Russia.

    Future Captain...?

Lilja's the right man for the job. He fights for his teammates, he scores game winning goals, and he's by far the best looking player on the team, which is important for media purposes and marketability.
