Don't worry. Lilja's birthday present to you will be a dead boogeyman after Lilja destroys him.
-
I can't believe what a coward Begin is. I hate it when guys try to grab and wrestle when they're fighting against guys like Lilja who love to open it up. Well, I figured that after the way Lilja destroyed Phaneuf, everyone else would be afraid to fight him. Oh well, hopefully Boogaard Friday night will have the balls to open up with the "PAIN TRAIN"
-
Lilja needs to challenge Dandy just like I predicted in the GDT.
-
Hopefully Lilja and Dandenault will slug it out tonight. After all, they're the two best fighting defenseman in recent Wings history.
-
What are you talking about? Half the people on this forum think that Drake should be a healthy scratch. We don't need another guy like that. And no, I don't want to see another 40 year old man in a Wings uniform dropping the gloves, which is really all that Drake has done here.
-
2nd line winger? If he can't score playing with Crosby and Malkin this year, then he can't score anywhere. Why do you think he was put on waivers? It's not because the Penguins are trying to do favors for the rest of the league. Recchi played well last year, but everyone's got to go sometime, and this year is his time. He's 40 years old, so there's nothing for him to be ashamed about.

Hey, leave the Lilja joke material to me. I'm usually more subtle than that in my posts. I might be running out of ideas after what you just wrote.
-
You misunderstood my post. I didn't mean that I wanted to cheer for another team, because I bleed red and always will, but that I wished the Wings had some of those elements, instead of having a team that's usually on the other side of those cheapshots.
-
I guess I just for once would want to cheer for a team full of cheapshot artists.

Fair enough, but Bourque has more all-star selections than any player ever, which I think we'll all agree doesn't mean he was better than anyone else to play the game. Obviously he's been consistent, but so has Lidstrom. I think bias has a lot to do with the all-star selections, because Lidstrom has never been as popular as Bourque was. Not that Bourque was a show-off, but he was the biggest star for the Bruins, while Lidstrom was never the biggest star for the Wings. However, Lidstrom should have more than the amount of 1st team or 2nd team all star selections that he's had. Also, I'll take Lidstrom's defensive game over Bourque's any day. His positioning and stick placement is the best of any defenseman ever.

When he dies, his brain will be implanted in a robot's body (although it looks like it has already), and this way he can be commissioner for life. By that point each arena in the league will be half-empty, yet he'll still be convincing everyone that things couldn't be better.

I know they're impossible. I'm just saying that the trap and great goaltending has made the league not as fun to watch as it was in the 80's. Obviously these things can't be eliminated, though, for the very reasons you mentioned.
-
I know the rest of you might attack me for this, but I'd love it if the Wings were doing all this and not the Flyers. I know we don't have the personnel for it, but I'm just saying that as a fan, I'd love knowing that my team is feared by other teams for their physical and sometimes dirty play. It creates this us against the world mentality. They're not quite the Broadstreet Bullies yet, though. That team was loaded with enforcers, so this team has quite a ways to go.
-
Their record is at .500. Everyone's making it sound like they haven't won a game all year. Another winning streak, and they'll be right near the top of their division.
-
Get rid of Bettman. Get rid of the instigator rule. Fine coaches for playing the trap. Make Chris Chelios the commissioner. Stop teaching goalies the butterfly style, they're too damn good now. Contract all teams in the southern part of the U.S. on both sides of the country. I know that none of these things will happen, but the league would be better off if they did.

Stats aren't everything. Lidstrom is the best defenseman in the league the last 7 seasons or so. Bourque shared Norris trophies with other guys in his career, like Leetch, Chelios, and Coffey. At no point was Bourque far and away the best defenseman in the leauge for as long as Nick has been. Likewise, stats aren't everything because Coffey had lot more points than Lidstrom, so would you rank him ahead of Lidstrom too. How about Harvey? His points per game average is nothing compared to anybody. If you were ranking things, he wouldn't even be one of the top 50 defenseman of all time. The point is that different generations have different stats, and the game was more wide open when Bourque played. This isn't baseball where all you look at is stats. There's other factors to judge.
-
When their cup hangover wears off, and their injured players come back, with the addition of Scott Niedermayer, I still see them as the hardest team to play against in the playoffs. They're big, have a great defense, and have one of the most clutch goalies in the league. We make fun of them now, but how many people here think that their troubles will last? I don't.
-
Most of those guys are multi-dimensional because they never try the same move twice. Kariya is the exception, because he always goes for that delayed wristshot high-glove side.
-
I'd have to pick Crosby and Ovechkin right now as my favorite non-Wings. They're the future of the league, and both play their asses off every night.
-
Lecavalier for Lilja. All right, to be fair to Tampa, I'll throw Kopecky in there as well. But still
-
He has 1 goal in 25 games, thus he has as many goals as Lilja. What separates him from Lilja is that Lilja has 1 more fight on the season. Why would we ever want this stiff? Because he was great once? How's that going to help us now? We need to worry about upgrading our 2nd line, and then worry about the defense.
-
Antropov? Well, that would give me someone else besides Lilja and Kopecky to make fun of, but for the sake of this team, the Leafs can keep Antropov. As for that trade you objected to, I would trade Hudler, Kindl, and a 1st rounder for Sundin in a heartbeat. My only concern with Sundin is that we don't need another center, but that's a lot better than getting someone like Bertuzzi last year. Sundin won't be a bust, and either Hank or Pavel can play wing as they've shown before.

I think it's what they call the "new NHL". By the way, did anyone see that gutless ***** Iginla fight last night wearing a visor during the whole fight. Why doesn't he wear a football helmet with thorns sticking out of it while he's at it.

I want a hug from the Swedish bikini team.

Rocky was a good film, but not as great a film as some make it out to be. I don't understand how anyone can think of it as a better boxing movie than Raging Bull.
