Boy, I must be getting old... That hit - in my opinion, anyway - was a thing of beauty. Someone hits your skill player (as much as I hate to say skill whilst talking about Perry /vomit ) and your goon goes and gets a piece of him. There is NOTHING illegal about this hit, from what I can see... he was just a defenseman pinching and seeing an opportunity to lay out a massive hit. I remember the late 90's when the Wings would do this all the time if someone screwed with Yzerman/Fedorov/Lidstrom/etc. (D-Mac, Lapointe, Konstantinov, Shanny...) Lets please not turn into a bunch of fuddy-duddys about hitting all the sudden. First this ridiculous Ovetchkin suspension and now I feel like people are going to try to turn this into the same thing. People get hurt in hockey. It happens. Head shots can be avoided - I get that... but I'm afraid people are going to start tacking suspensions on to penalties if the opposing player gets injured. What's next? Are we gonna install airbags into the boards?

Take it from someone who had to live in that hell-hole for 7 years... its the cesspool of the country. Absolutely the most backwards state in the union. And it *is* true - all they have are their sports. Its literally all they care about... their team winning and making fans of other teams miserable. It really doesn't come as a surprise to me that someone was harassing Helms significant other, considering the last time I was at the Igloo my folks and I got a nice cold beer shower and expletive combo (and this was early 2000's!). Absolutely the most classless group of sports fans in the country. Don't go there unless you're looking for trouble.

While I don't like your tactics on how to bring it up on LGW, I can't agree with you more. The "new" NHL is boring, tasteless and, to an even greater extent, more dangerous than the "old" NHL. Because of the lack of clutching and grabbing and fighting, more players are resorting to making unreasonably large hits - and I don't mean open ice, I mean chasing someone down for the icing call or following a dump-in and either the offenseman lambasting the defenseman or vice versa, leading to all sorts of misery. A simple way to correct that specifically is no-touch icing... but an even easier way would have been to have the insight to know that this BS was going to happen. Alas, I feel like I'm a studio wrestler... my face-heel turns and heel-face turns are getting ahead of me. I know for sure I used to say (prior to the lockout) "Man... we're getting raped out there by bigger and badder teams... I sure wish a ref would make a call every once in a while on all those hooks, trips and interference penalties!" ...ah, if I only had a time machine...

Ok... if I remember correctly, whistling at a hockey game in sweden is like booing, right? ... sure seems like a lot of whistling while Wings have the puck... and correct me if I'm wrong, but did I hear a "Let's go Blues" chant?!? Are the Wings playing in Bizarro Sweden?

After a night to cool the engines, I can honestly say that you guys deserved the win. I remember back in 97 when it was guys like Joey Kocur and D-Mac who won it for us with their timely goals - for you guys it was players like Jordan Staal (who gets overshadowed by your big 2) and Maxim Talbot. I think I now understand how the rest of the league feels about Kirk Maltby... one of those players you love on your team but would hate on another... because I despise Talbot (pripr to him winning game 7 almost single-handedly), but you guys certainly love him. Good win - you guys earned it with hard work and to be the best, ya gotta beat the best. A 7 game SCF is the best thing a good hockey fan can ask for. Enjoy it. Mature from it. Hopefully that captain of yours can start acting like the face of the league so this won't be *such* a bitter pill to swallow from that standpoint. Can we make it 3 SCF meetings in a row? I wanna beat you guys so bad right now...

Anyway, just seeing if anyone else is going to try to jump on and hit up these limited quantity tickets... so how 'bout it?

Oh, come on... it was worth a 2 minute minor (or maybe even a 5 minute major), but this hit wasn't suspendably dirty. Gonchar made a bad decision by moving the way he did and it ended up knee on knee. Even the Canadian broadcasters on TSN agree that it wasn't an intent to injure or anything. Let'em play...

If Yzerman/Lidstrom/Dasyuk/Zetterberg ever bitched about fans throwing hats on the ice after a hat trick, I wouldn't be a Wings fan. Period. The guy whines and moans about EVERYTHING. When he isn't crying, he's relishing in undeserved attention from the greater Pittsburgh area (and gullible hockey fans across the US and Canada) for achievements that he has yet to receive (i.e. a Stanley Cup). He's a poor role model and an embarrassment to the league. This is just another reminder of how much of an arrogant, self-centered S.O.B. he really is. The NHL really is the 'Sidney Crosby Show' in his eyes. What a joke.

Trash talk is trash talk (I played high school hockey, after all). I DO, however, have a problem with the league lowering the boom on one person, while not lowering it on another. That's all I'm saying. I'm tired of this "unique snowflake" BS. I prefer a more black-and-white situation. If something is suspendable, EVERYONE gets suspended for it. Just like yesterday - you aren't allowed to interfere with a goalie or intentionally knock the puck in to the net with your skate... but if you take a look at last nights highlights in the pens-flyers game, Crosby sure did both on that first goal.
