I think Downey blew any chance to make the team last night. I don't know if he was instructed not to fight under any circumstance or what, but Peters made Downey look like a scared little b*tch. The think I don't understand is why Downey would turn Peters down like that, because I really don't see him being scared of Peters as he has fought far better enforcers than Peters.I guess I would even be suprised to see Downey up in Detroit again at any point this season. It looks like Detroit will not ice an enforcer this season and will largley be finesse team.

I guess I really don't see this as a huge deal. I know it is rare, but I remember a few goalies being an assistant and even a couple having been the captain at the collegiate level. Heck, Jeff Lerg at Michigan State was an assistant last season and is the captain this year.

I belive they were even roommates up in Traverse City. I reading that during an interview with Filppula afer the hit Downey poped in and appolgised again and said he was going to make Flippula's bed for him.

If he was anything like me, I would,t have someone else yell at you. Instead, I get up and punch you in the face a few times.

I have season tickets and the only thing I can really remember from this years games is the "This is Sparta" line during the video before the game and a few of the "What is your profession" things on a third down. MSU has not used the 300 stuff nearly as much as last year. The wallpaper with the Spartan solders outside the stadium was a fan made one by a poster at spartantailgate.com last year. The University and Athletics Departmaent had nothing to do with it being made. On a side not I can't wait till Saturday against Notre Dame.

I was at the Michigan State game today. I just could not belive the number of fumbles that State had. I don't care that it was raining, the nuber was still way too high. By the way it was anounced at todays game that the Stanley Cup will be in East Lansing for the Notre Dame game.

All I can say about the MSU vs Cal game is that MSU looked like the Same Old Spartans. they took far to many stupid penaltys and the defence was pourus when it needed to come up with a big stop. Hoyer showed once again that he is a mediocre QB at best.

Honestly, McCarty broke free of the linesman and hit Lemieux with a blind side sucker punch. Lemieux only saw the hit coming after the punch was already thrown, he had no chace to prepare for the punch let alone defend himself. McCarty could have, but didn't, seriouly injuried Lemieux. BUt mand I still love that fight. I think that the main reson that Bert was let go from the Ducks is that they just couln't afford to keep paying him the insane amount that he recived last season and stay under the cap. At one point (pre-Moore, injuries, etc...) he was one of the best power forwards in the game and played well in his short stint in Detroit. He still is a solid second / third line player and was solid aquisition for the Flames for a reasonable price. I hope that he can get things sorted out and get back to the player that he once was.

I think his time has come to retire from playing. I think he would be a bigger asset as a strength and conditioning / defence coach.

Hey, a 3.5 is not anything to be to disapointed with. Did you at least find out the areas that need to be improved on for future use?

I think that both should be resigned, but I am afriaid that there might not be enough cap space to have both Downey and McCarty. If only one can be I would say sign Downey because at this point in their careers he is a much better enforcer than McCarty.

I would welcome him as a replacement for Drake. He has more offenceive production than Drake and is not as physical as he used to be.

Lilja also went winless if you want to look at it that way. His fighting style is throw one or two punches and go for the tackle.

To me the point is that McCarty isn't the fighter that he once was at this point Downey is a better choice as an enforcer. Personally, I think McCarty should stick to being a grinder, much like Drake did this year.

I would prefer McGrattan if we had waited till free agency.

I welcome D-Mac back, but I really want to see Downey back. I hope the Wings re-sign him also. Sort of a Bruise Brothers Light.

There are rumors that Ottawa has no intrest in re-signing McGrattan who is a current RFA meaning that he is soon going to become an UFA.

I love Downey, hes a great guy, he's disiplined and a good fighter and enforcer but he is NOT a top ten heavy by any means. To be honest as much as it annoys me I do not think he will be wearing the winged weel next season. I honestly see McCarty being signed instead of Downey, not in addition to. In all fairness McCarty can't handle the role of the enforcer any more, his pugilistic skills are not what they once were, it would be better in my opinion to have him an a Dallas Drake type role and have Downey there to handle the majority of the enforcing

I was listing to CBC hockey night radio today on my way home from shoping and Ken Daniels said that McCarty was going to probably be signed to a league minimum two-way contract. On a side note he also said that Downey while being a great guy and a major asset will not be back next season due to there not being enough room. This is a dumb move if you ask me. But oh well.

I am just happy that this game is on NBC, instead of VS. The area I am in in Louisiana right now does not get VS, so I had to watch the last game on my laptop. I have a feeling that the teams will split in Pitt. and the Wings win it at home in game 5. By the way great job on the thread Aflac.
