Hmm...tough choice. We have lots of quality D prospects, but they are still prospects. Giving up Kronwall is a tough decision. Any day of the week i'd give up Franzen, for the right piece I'd give up Nyquist, but our 1st rounder this year in a deep draft....If that pick ends up being Ryan Pulock, then I'd be unhappy with the end result of the deal. Ovie has not been good lately and would not be worth 2 top 6 forwards and a quality D pairing if our pick is 16 or lower, where Pulock is slotted at the present.

If Flip wants $5mil per than I'd be all for using him as trade bait, but unfortunately it would likely be for a higher pick as he'd be a possible rental for a team that is challenging for the Cup. Like Anaheim, who would pair him with his buddy Selanne. Bogo was on the block in Atlanta as a 7th Dman and then he got tons of ice time in Winnipeg and became a top 4 guy. Holland truly dropped the ball not looking into getting him. He's going nowhere now. With Buff, Enstrom, Bogo and in the near future Trouba coming up, that top 4 is gonna be something to be reckoned with.

This is a much better idea than the OP. And we can only have 2 amnesty buyouts. The 1 thing though is only trade Datsyuk if we're out of the playoff picture NEXT year to a team that could win it to send him out on top, but still I'd have a sour taste in my mouth seeing Dats on any other team. Boston wouldn't be the worst team to go to... I'm down for letting some scrubs walk and bring up some young blood, but blowing up the team is crazy talk. Clarkson would be a good pick up this summer if he doesn't re-sign with the Devils, but in reality, 2/3 of the teams in the NHL are going to have to shed up to 6 million in salary, including the mighty Wild and we should have some cap space to use. It'll be interesting to see what players become available when teams have to adhere to the 64.3 million cap in place of the pro-rated 70.2 cap this year. Teams may be a little more willing to use us as a trading partner if we have a prospect that they want and they NEED to shed salary.

The Jets announcers on TSN Jets stated last night that the Wings and other teams called about Buff and Cheveldayoff basically said that he's not on the market.

Howard is in his prime, yes, and is a legit #1 goalie and top 5-7 in the league. sign him until he's 34-35....yes please. Mrazek is a couple years away likely. If he turns out to be a showstopper in a year or 2, we have a nasty G tandem, which we haven't had in....? Someone fill this blank_________ Or we have an option to move one for other needed assets, like a top 6 goal scorer. McCollum couldn't prove himself useful in the AHL. His audition has come and gone.

Maybe the "Wednesday night rivalry" will actually have some old rivalries. But A, B, C and D is so original. It's easy to Alphabetize.... I like Gretzky, Orr, Howe, and Richard divisions.

But on the bright side, they have tons of potential, which is somethign that we need badly and asap. If they spend the next 2 years in GR and then make the jump to the Wings, then to me that's one in the win column. Justin Schultz jumped on Edmonton this year. He's great offensively, mediocre to decent defensively, but he's still getting love from Edmonton's fans and all the sports panels. The next 2-3 years may be a slightly bumpy transition here, we just gotta hope that we get a good 1st round pick this summer and that Dekeyser signs with us and we can get hopefully 1 forward UFA. If not, then we have to wait for our prospects to be ready cause we don't have a lot of trade partners these days. Hopefully Jarnkrok comes here next year and is a Wing. He may be our 2nd line centre in 2 years anyways if Flip wants too much money and Dats goes home. There's gonna be a lot of change here in the next couple of years and half the team may be gone. Flip, Dats, Cleary, Tuzzi, White, Coliacovo, Eaves, Miller, Emmerton, Sammy, Quincey.... Only 1 of those players is irreplaceable. Bolded for emphasis.

I said before when the Parise/Suter thing was going on that I would like Suter, but didn't care nearly as much about him as I did Parise. Parise was on a low scoring defensive team in Jersey and he still got his share of points, but the thing I liked most about him was his tenacity and that he forchecks harder than 99% of the players in the NHL. He's fast and has a quick release and if his first shot doesn't go in, he never gives up on a play and that's what makes him so valuable. Do I wish the Wings signed him to that monster contract? Not sure at this point, but him and Suter for the same deal, don't want both at that money, just like this summer if Flip wants $5mil per, than he can enjoy playing in Calgary with $4mil worth of Hudler. I sincerely hope that if Flip is adamant that he wants more than $4mil and is arguing for 5 that Holland trades him to whomever the highest bidder is to rent his services.

Did you change your mind so quick? We need a top Dman now, but we're not gonna get one through trade and we gotta be patient and wait for Sproul, Ouellet and Backman to develop. I agree with all of that, but we can't have both. I wouldn't hate it if the Wings missed out this year and got a chance to get a high pick like Jonathan Drouin and then get a pick in around 15 and get Ryan Pulock. I would be more than happy just to get Pulock to add to our already really good D depth, but then we have our current issue at hand and that is we have trouble scoring goals and our offense is a complete disaster. G and D are ok, and will only get better with our prospects, but our forwards are lacking a bit and needs to be addressed more in this years draft.

I for one NEVER want to see Datsyuk play for any NHL team that is not the Red Wings. Ever!

the Abby hate is overkill. He's not a goal scorer, he's a grinder. He hits and annoys the opposition. He has lost a step from last season though. He's looking a little slow this year. There's a LOT of anger on here these days cause we're not scoring goals and it's cause we have bottom 6 players out of their element in the top 6 that aren't producing cause they aren't as skilled as guys that should be up there like Tatar and Nyquist. The only guys in the bottom 6 that really have the skill to play in the top 6 in "my opinion" are Helm and Eaves. Cleary and Abby are shutdown guys that need to be just that.

Tatar and Nyquist would be good on a line together though cause their play styles would ultimately have chemistry. Put Andersson on there to be the big bod presence and you have scoring line #3 and a much tougher team to play against.

Hard work goes a long way.
