When you think about how many good goalies were in the league at once in the 90's..... Hasek, Roy, Barasso, Vernon, Richter, Brodeur, Joseph, Belfour, Vanbiesbrouck, Ranford, Fuhr, Potvin, etc. Now we still have Brodeur along with Quick and Lundqvist, but after that, who on the lists in this thread are actually better than Howard seeing as Howard is every bit as good as Price? Howard may not be elite according to the history of the game, but in the league right now, he's between 5 and 7.

2 goals on 47 shots...most goalies would have let in at least 5 of those shots. Go watch the game tape. The whole Wings team escaped with the squeaker win. They had their svoring chanced too but not as many close calls for almost goals. Howard outperformed the reigning Conn Smythe champ.

If you rate Bryzbythegoalline ahead of Howard then you sir are crazy. Howard = Price. As i stated before Howard needed to battle harder and fight to see the pucks. Hes done that the past couple games and only gave up 3 goals combined to the oilers and kings and has looked good. The Wings D sorted themselves oit too and have only given up 4 goals in the past 3 games

Brunner is a refreshing change from trying to have each guy on the team touch the puck twice before each shot. Brunner gets the puck = sizzle time!

I think Cleary is terrible, but that's the 2nd game in a row he drew a penalty. At least he's skating hard.

We need a big guy presence in the bottom 6 to help on the forcheck and wear teams down. Nyquist is top 6 and probably playing every situation in GR right now while Tatar is up.

Huskins stays. Him and Ericsson are the only 2 Dmen we have shutting guys down at the moment. And I really hope Huskins stays next year too. Good team guy by the looks of it and he blocks more shots than the rest of the D put together.

And the one in the SEL would be Backman I believe. His latest prospect watch I saw said "shades of Edler" seen from him.

Agree on most points of this well constructed post, but have some rebuttle nonetheless. #1 - Jimmy and Petr can be a nasty tandem if our D was improved. #2 - If Iginla, Perry or Getzlaf can somehow be signed in the offseason, then we're gtg. If not, then we'll have to wait 1 more season for some guys contracts to expire and then you have 3 scoring lines with Tatar-Jarnkrok-Jurco as the 3rd. #3 - Wait until you see Oullet and Sproul to compliment Kronwall, Smith and Ericsson. I don't expect to see White and Kindl past their current contract and another Quincey re-signing would result in public fires in Detroit. Wait to see the development of McKee as well. He's a big nasty dude. #4 - Sign a big forward in the UFA pool, get rid of the baggage, bring up Sheahan and Andersson to flank Helm, and hang on to Tootoo and rotate forwards and give guys games off here and there. I started the thread that Kronwall is a #1 Dman, but in other people's defence, his -3 and 20 mins in lazy butthole penalties is not making my case very strong. He has 8 points, all assists in 10 games, but he's trying too hard to be Lids and not doing it very well. He's gripping his stick too hard and making a lot of mistakes. I still think it's there for him, but he needs a better supporting cast which will be a healthy Smith, Ericsson, and Sproul and Oullet when they come up through the pipeline. Until then it may be a tough ride unless nice signings are made.
