Defense like Cheese? Brunner tearing it up in Swiss League
Z Winged Dangler replied to kipwinger's topic in General
Eff Nash. Brunner's rippping it up. I hope him and Z tear the league to pieces and come back the the NHL at Winter Classic time and crush the Leafs and carry momentum with a Flip-Z-Brunner line right to the SCF. Any doubters left on Brunner's skill, look at his point comparison with Thornton who also has Nash compared to Omark on his team and see why the rest of us were excited about this signing. Brunner, Nyquist and Smith will rejuvenate the stale offense that is the Wings and take pressure off Dats and Z (and Flip now)......once the season starts that is. -
Russians Possibly Staying In KHL After Lockout
Z Winged Dangler replied to number9's topic in General
Radulov. As for Bryzgalov, he's a sieve and should do the Flyers a favor and stay in Russia. As the saying goes, "you are the weakest link....goodbye" -
I met him in a mall in Winnipeg a number of years back while wearing my Brandon Wheat Kings hoodie and he walked by me and shook my hand and said nice hoodie....so my perception is that he is a very approachable person. He was super nice and didn't have the slightest chip on his shoulder. As far as the polar bears go....gotta eat man! Different cultures have different tastes for food. I'm a chicken, beef and pork guy myself and that may seem weird to some people that i won't eat anything but those meats, but i'm a born and raised prairie kid. Go further north, there's fish and polar bears. I can't wait to see Tootoo suit up for the Wings.

I was thinking the same thing. And when we're waiting to hear about progress on the main issue of how to split up 3.3 billion dollars, we, the fans, could not care less about player safety and all that jargen if they aren't even playing. Or is that just me? It's kinda cool that I currently play in the same rink during the day as the Jets, but walking by the rink they're on when i'm going to play hockey is a little depressing at the same time cause they should have been on a road trip to start the season as far as i know.

Who can tell me something about the Red Wings
Z Winged Dangler replied to DinoFromCN's topic in General
Sounds like a kick ass tv series! -
Personally, after reading the Dan Boyle article saying that all the owners aren't on the same page and that it only takes 8 owners to carry a motion, i'm waiting for the owner of a team to come out and say enough is enough and they gotta get hockey going again. How many of you guys actually think that Ilich wants a lockout? I love how the NHL's first statement said that the owners voted unanimously 30 to 0 in favor of a lockout. Wonder now how much truth there is to that or if only 8-10 voted in favor. Seems kinda sketchy to think that the Leafs, Rangers, Wings, Bruins, Jets, Canucks, Kings, Habs, and other profitable teams and defending champs would in any way, shape or form want a work stoppage. I call bulls***.

That was a very interesting article to say the least. Luxury boxes should not count toward HRR as the renters get to attend every event in their suite. The pissing contest over HRR is killing the NHL and it's fanbase, so they better sort out their differences very quickly cause the media isn't helping the face of the game. They're more pressing the NHL and NHLPA to make quick decisions and jumping at every chance (like the TSN article today stating they talked for 2 hours and got nowhere) to add more fuel to the fire in the public eye. I don't get how it's so hard to sit down and figure out what's hockey related revenue and what isn't and split the amounts fairly....? If Gary Bettman and Donald Fehr were so smart, we'd be way past that and the boys would be finishing the pre-season gearing up for an 82 game schedule. Too many greedy children in positions that are supposed to be filled with grown men.

Awesome article. Thanks for posting. Dats is the man.
-
Sure is. And it's even more awesome that they mention doing it for the fans in the article and that the tickets are only $20 and all money goes to charity. I hope they keep touring doing this til the lockout ends.

Holland got Quincey in a 3 way trade involving Yzerman. That's how he has to work now cause teams are always afraid of what the Wings can be again. Another thing as well, tell me 1 dman that was signed this offseason that was not overpaid. Even Yzerman overpaid for Matt Carle. Either way, Quincey may bounce back and Smith should fit well on the blue line if there's even a season. Time will tell. Personally, I think we're fine.
-
Well, they're set to meet again tomorrow morning and hopefully the NHLPA will have another proposal to table to the NHL. I personally think it's fair for both sides to make a 50/50 split and if they don't get close to that sometime soon then i for one will be losing faith in there being a season at all. Someone in the organizations needs to step up and show all the numbers and try to actually prove to both sides where the middle point should be and that's where they should aim to close a deal on. Neither side wants to meet half way, they both just want to get a bigger piece of the pie than the other and it's getting really sad to watch and read about. The NHL lockout is quickly becoming a tradition and any new CBA that's agreed upon needs to help eliminate this in the future. There's already a lot of people saying that they aren't coming back or will not support the NHL anymore, even just on this site. The word is spreading on HF Boards too and the media with people saying they're done with the NHL. Imagine how poor the NHL is gonna be in non-hockey markets when their already small fanbase becomes essentially non existant. Maybe then Bettman will be more willing to move the teams and own up to his past mistakes. But in saying that, the players will need to take less money if those teams remain in the league or we will not be watching NHL hockey any time soon.

I like the team colours as the home jersey personally, so i'll go with white as road jerseys.

Jimmy D Speaks out on Lockout, fined $250k
Z Winged Dangler replied to ShanahanMan's topic in General
That's what really annoyed me. I don't like when, especially a long tenured Red Wings representative from the classiest team in all of sports, takes and blasts the guys, the players, that keep him in an organization that's been on top for the past 20 years. Credit is due not only the the owners for being successful, but to the players that get the fans in the seats and keep the organizations winning tradition alive. The only thing i don't like about the NHL players going overseas is that they are taking jobs from other people. The entire world is suffering, not just North America. Jobs are being lost everywhere due to the NHL lockout and this needs to be addressed very quickly. The lockout needs to end as quickly as it's beginning. -
http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2012/09/red_wings_damien_brunner_might.html As per MLIve Wings article, Brunner may be heading back to play for his old team in the Swiss League. His old team seems to want him to come back cause there's a lockout, but it would greatly benefit him to play for GR to get accustomed to the NA game and the smaller ice surface and he even stated that himseld. I for one really wanted to stream a few GR games and hopefully see a top line of Nyquist-Sheahan-Brunner and Tatar on the 2nd line with Jurco if he's on GR this year.

Jimmy D Speaks out on Lockout, fined $250k
Z Winged Dangler replied to ShanahanMan's topic in General
I'm cattle....you're cattle....the players are cattle....the owners have a nice ranch....Gary Bettman is a sheep f***er. Jimmy D has WAY too much respect for the main guy responsible for bankrupt teams being a part of the league and his smug **** attitude is NEVER gonna fly with the fans. Some of the article made perfect sense, but dissing Ron McLean for having the balls to call out issues with the game and calling the players cattle is not only bad for the NHL, but looks bad on the Wings organization when one of their leaders starts sounding like a Nazi General towards the players. This entire lockout has been a pissing contest between the NHL and NHLPA and now the owners and NHL team executives are chiming in with their hate mongering......great! Can't wait to see the 2005 lockout Stanley Cup Champion repeat... -
I normall refer to them as the Sh*tbirds, but with the language filter I had to mix things up a bit . I wish more people were onboard with being positive about the Wings team and defence. Our depth on D is better in my eyes than as you said "the couple key guys". The mindset that most people have though is that Lids and Stuart are gone and despite how good Smith is will never measure up to Lids and Kronwall apparently isn't a #1 dman. Kronner is just as good as the legend himself Ryan Suter, Ericsson has become just as good as Stuart, Smith may win the Calder if a season starts and could push Kronwall for the point leader among dmen on the Wings, White and Coliacovo are solid and Quincey should get back to form and get 35-40 points. I don't get how a solid 6 doesn't please people even after the departure of Lids and Stuart. No one wants to trade with the Wings cause they don't want to be the team that adds the piece to the puzzle. Another thing, which is why Holland didn't want to give out more than 2 years to Coliacovo is that we have some really good D prospects that should be ready in 2-4 years....Sproul, Oulette, McKee and so on, and if Dekeyser decides to sign here after this year then he'll be in the mix too so it's not like Kenny didn't plan at all for the departures that happened, but he couldn't control what other teams were willing to give him in trades and that family was more important not just for Stuart, but also Suter and Parise. Lastly, most dmen that got signed this summer as UFA's were grossly overpaid by teams crying that they have no money. Kenny's legacy will be that he built contenders every year and was fiscally responsible when the cap was brought into the NHL. Anyone who disagrees can look back to the 2008 Cup win in the "salary cap era" and the cup that should have been the following season.

That would be the Penguins obviously. And you didn't notice Cansucks? I have a deep hatred for those 3 teams, so I use slang to describe them. 99% of my posts here are well thought out and mature, it appears you've tapped into that 1%. Either way, those are the teams that the Wings D would be lumped in with as equals and the main point is that only the Rangers and Bruins have overall better D in my opinion. And the slang for teams can't be the only thing you took from my post...it was fairly descriptive despite your criticism. As for part 2 of your post. I agree 100%. Stuart had his bags packed all year. He was ok, but he wasn't great shutdown Stuart and clearly, that's what we needed him to be last year. He looked lost for most of the year. He still hit and blocked shots, but his positioning/hockey sense was subpar. One other thing...I like the Coliacovo signing as he is a very solid dman, but I still think that Kenny should have given Cam Barker a closer look. Probably could have got him cheap and he's got even more upside than Carlo.

In Winnipeg we've had the NHL back for 1 year and now it's locked out... That's like hanging your bare ass out at a pitbull through a fence...

Some games are on sportsnet and you'll occasionally get random local channels that get feeds to games. I'll definitely be looking it up this year and will be going to Wheat Kings games in person. If I end up in Borden, ON this year for training stuff i'll definitely try to catch a Barrie Colts game. The ticket prices are also very good for games. There's American teams as well in the CHL. Portland Winterhawks and I would assume the Tri-City Americans are in the US. It really depends on if you're willing to drive a couple hours to see a game. Living in Michigan, you could potentially see half the teams in the OHL in a 2-3 hour drive, but I may be mistaken.
-
No one will EVER be disappointed going to a CHL game. Great and fun experience. Followed the Wheat Kings playoff run when they had Eric Fehr and they took out Moose Jaw with Dustin Boyd and Kenndal McCardle in the first round, Calgary Hitmen with Ryan Getzlaf and Andrew Ladd in round 2 and then in the finals they lost to the Kelowna Rockets with Shea Weber and Blake Comeau...all in all, some of the best hockey i've ever watched. missed only 1 playoff game that year and it's about 200 km each way to see a game and i don't regret doing the trips for 1 second.
-
I'm gonna go against the grain on this one and say we're around #5 in the league. There's only 2 teams I rank in the top and that's the Bruins and Rangers. The Wings I would lump in with the Hawks, Kings, Shatbirds, Blues, Cansucks, Sharts and Jets to more or less round out the top 10 ish. Look at the top 6 on every other team in the NHL and you'll notice weaknesses on every club. Losing Lids and Stuart sucks, but still having Kronwall, White and now Coliacovo, you know what to expect from those guys. Ericsson is turning into the shutdown guy he was supposed to be, Smith may win the Calder if he gets top 4 minutes and Quincey may have a nice revival this year getting him back to his top 4 form. Kindl is the black sheep. Not sure what to make of him. But if our D looks like so, i'm not horribly worried: Kronwall - White Smith - Quincey Ericsson - Coliacovo Kindl Personally, i'd swap White and Ericsson, but that's just me.

Got some good players from Winnipeg for sure. Jonathan Toews, Darren Helm, I believe Patrick Sharp was actually born here and then moved to Thunder Bay when he was young, same with Duncan Keith being born here, Cam Barker, Leafs prospect Carter Ashton, went to high school with Dustin Boyd, pretty sure Mark Stone is from here, Cody Eakin, Scott Glennie, Mike Keane, Derek Meech, Colton Orr, Dave Semenko, Alex Steen was born here, Ian White is from the area, Travis Zajac (his cousin's a huge pot head), Terry Sawchuk and of course the fastest hat trick ever....Billy Mosienko.

Wings to Europe: Tracking which DRW players are playing where
Z Winged Dangler replied to evilmrt's topic in General
Love what Z said about Buttman. He needs to go so we don't have a 5-7 year countdown to the next NHL lockout. -
Before the Jets left Winnipeg I was at a game where they beat Dallas 7-6 and Selanne had 4 goals and shot his glove out of the air after his 3rd goal. That is one of the single greatest performances i've ever seen by a player. Stevie Y and Lids were insane back then too. Saw Yzerman tear the Jets apart with my dad a few times back then. Federov and Konstatinov were also amazing to watch. The Wings team from the mid 90's right before the cup wins were awesome to watch. Haven't been lucky enough to see the new Jets team yet, but really looking forward to seeing Kane's speed and Wheeler do an end to ender. I would very much like to see Dats and Z play in the near future.
