Honestly, not that many teams really improved this offseason enough for it to matter. The Wild improved, but before that they were a joke with no depth, now they just have minimal depth. The Habs improved. The Canucks barely got better, signed Garrison and lost Salo. The Lightning are better, but it came with a lot of cost. That being said, their roster is pretty impressive right now. Everything in Germany is delicious. I was lucky enough to go there for a month to work on an audit team at the end of my deployment last year and if i could watch hockey at the proper times, i'd gladly move to Germany. Just an amazing place. As for Janik, he could have been a good #7 this year, but he'll no doubt have a blast in Germany.

Have him work with Abdelkader and Miller. Show them the way. Both are around his size and have more skill everywhere but standing in front of the net. And Abby is a menace, he'd be good for the Homer role and could probably piss off the other teams goalie just as much.

Teams that spend right to the cap and still aren't contenders are stupid. They have no option to bring in high profile players when they become available. If Holland gets a guy like Vandermeer and tries out our best prospects this year and figures out who's good enough moving forward, are you gonna complain next summer when we have a chance to get Weber, Getzlaf and Perry? I didn't think so. And not eveyone is gonna sign a 1 year contract with the Wings to get pushed aside next offseason when Holland wants to dish out money to a WAY better UFA crop. No need to spend right to the cap and waste the owners money if you don't have to. And some guys will be getting raises next year and the years after that, so having some cap space handy IS a good thing.

There's no room on the Wings for Homer anymore. It's time to bring in the new blood and quit hanging on to guys WAY too long. All the best to Homer, but he's no longer useful enough to be on the Wings roster.

I think Smith is gonna steal the show this year, and I'm glad that he's coming in confident and wanting a big role with the team.

The only thing thoug is that if Weber goes to Philly, the Preds would have to do a sign and trade cause they're not gonna get what they want in a trade if it's just for the rights to sign Weber. I have a feeling that Weber will be a Pred for 1 more year and then test UFA, and also that is the only scenario that will give the Wings a chance to get him. The price to get Weber via trade would be far too steep for most teams in the NHL and if Weber only signs for 1 year and goes on the trading block, teams may not trade away 4-5 pieces of their roster/depth to get a 1 year rental.

Yzerman has done ok, but not great. He's made some good moves, but also made some overpayments. Carle is good, but not worth more than $4-4.5 mil, let alone over $5mil. He's being aggressive and trying to make an identity for the Bolts, but he may have made a few moves that could handcuff him later. So like you said, I'm also glad that we have Kenny who is showing infinite patience for the new CBA and for other teams to waste all their money and make it so they may have to firesale in the future. And with how much we love our prospects, we should give them more of a chance before discounting them. We're a couple of good guys away from being a cup contender and those good guys may be named Nyquist, Smith and Brunner and i will remain optimistic cause i think all 3 are going to be stars.

The only thing that could make this better is if you put Parise and Suter's jerseys on the bears. Make sure if you do you put the "A" on their jerseys cause at their press conference, they already had them. So much depth in Minnesota, all you have to do is be a good player and they'll toss you a letter before you even get to the locker room.

I would swap Smith down to the 2nd line and White up to play with Kronwall. Like i said befoer, the reason Kronner never got to play with Lids is cause he was the other guy we had that could do it all and be depended on to carry the 2nd line. I think Q could bounce back big time if he had a young confident and energetic linemate like Smith on his line. Don't get me wrong, in NHL 13 Smith will be up with Kronwall lol....but i think he could be very effective as Kronner's 2nd fiddle the way he was to Lids.

There's forum rules? lol. I read them very briefly years back. I just try to make my point and provide proper research when i post and try not to be a kak when i do it... Seems like an easy enough approach. There's a lot of very knowledgable guys on here (ex Drake_Marcus), a lot of very optimistic guys in a trying time for the Wings which I like (ex LeftWinger) and then you have the funny guy that always has an epic comment to add, yes, that's you esteef, and that's what makes this site great. I think the main problem is that we havn't seen 55 fan on here recently, and our voice of reason isn't here to calm everyone down.

I would love to see a line of Yzerman, Shanahan and Fedorov! Too bad about Probert, would have been nice to see him lace em' up for a fun game and hope Domi plays for TO. Lids should get in there for 1 last game as a Wing. Definitely liking the roster though.

I was saying the same thing, but as you can see in my sign that will be there until the awards are handed out next summer. I think Smith tops 50 and i don't care who knows it! He gets top 4 mins and PP, mark my words he gets 50+ pts and a Calder nomination.

And if we are giving up Flip, Tatar and a pick to a team that doesn't even want Ryan, which is an overpayment, i would want Smith-Pelley with Ryan. We discount Flip way too much around here. And the reason he was getting an avg of 40 pts per year is because he was generally 3rd line C. put him on Z's wing for a year and he gets 66 pts.....guy has game! I would trade Franzen and a pick for Ryan, but not Flip. In my eyes, he's more valuable than Ryan now and if anyone disagrees, look at the stats. Ryan's on a line with either of Getzlaf, Perry or Selanne too, so for those who say the Ducks are a bad team, they still have great scoring forwards there, they just have crappy D.

And then the trade centrepiece becomes a bag of pucks with Franzen on the side. In all seriousness, that's why I believe the most Kenny would give up is Franzen, Tatar, possibly an Andersson type player and a 2nd rounder. Just because Howson wants 4 players and a 1st rounder doesn't mean he's getting that overpayment from teams. None of the teams on Nash's list can afford to lose all their cup contending depth to get 1 guy. Like i said before, Howson is a complete derp!

Nice to see not all fans of other teams are burning the Wings at the stake right now. I'm one of the guys that strongly believe that Nyquist and Brunner are both gonna top 50 pts too. Until proven otherwise, no one can bash me for saying so. I've seen both play and both are capable to squeeze into the top 6. As far as i'm concerned, the Wings can sign Vandermeer for 1 year and then ride it out til 1 July 2013 and move forward signing guys when a way better UFA crop is available and there's a stable CBA ensuring that there's no post-signing policy surprises.

And on top of that, it was mentioned by centcougar that Kronwall should be getting more points playin "on a team" with Lidstrom. Funny that assessment is....wouldn't he be expected to get more points if he actually got the luxury of playing on a line with Lids?? Not being in Lids shadow watching guys like Rafalski, White and even Ericsson getting playing time on a line with Lids, and even Stuart. Kronwall didn't get ice time with Lids cause he had to run the 2nd pairing cause he was capable of doing so. Now he's gonna be the guy running the Wings blueline with Smith as 2nd fiddle.

Nash is on one of the annually worst teams in the NHL, but i have a hard time giving up more than Franzen, Tatar, Andersson and a 2nd round pick (or a comparable package still involving Franzen and not Flip) for a guy who's never topped 80 pts making 7.8 mil per year. Howson is out of his mind. Maybe the reason that Columbus has 1 good player is that no one wants to play there and their GM is a derp.

At LeftWinger, clearly there's no more point in arguing with this child about the fact that the Wings aren't gonna suck next year. And some of us aren't as worried as others when you see prospects ready to go like Smith and Nyquist and signing a potential star in Brunner. Besides, Granloops may get Kronwalled the first time the Wild play the Wings and the kid may be dazed in the 5th row. As far as i'm concerned, this is a tryout year for the Wings in which they will in all likely hood still make the playoffs. At the end of the day, Kenny may go into next summer with enough cash to lure Weber, Getzlaf and Iginla and that to me spells "Cup Favourite" 1 season does not make or break a track record for the best team in the past 20 years, it simply gives a GM the chance to re-tool to keep the team competitive after losing a legend and the best overall dman to ever play the game.

Vandermeer, Jurcina or i'm very interested if we can get Barker. He was awesome up until he left Chicago and i think he'd get back on track playing in Detroit. Him and Kronwall would be a pretty good pairing. Personally, I think Filppula should get the 3rd A if one is still to be given out. Especially is he is next on the list after Z.
