that's how i felt when Stevie Y retired and that's how i feel now. i had zero appetite all day. the Wings will never be the same without Lids...look at the stretch without him for 11 games when they fell from 1st to 5th.

today sucks balls, but all the best to Nick and his family. Hope to see his kid in a Wings jersey, it'll make Nick's retirement a little easier to choke down. just a sad day for hockey when a great like Lids hangs 'em up.

lol ya, i couldn't remember his name off the top of my head while i was posting. The Wings have so much potential with the cap space to re-tool (not rebuild) this summer. kenny needs to not sign Homer or Hudler and get in on the action big with these young blue chippers. As for Jurco, i was super excited to see him light it up in the memorial cup, but it sorta seemed like he got dick for ice time and didn't get Coyle's luxury of playing with a guy like Huberdeau. we'll see how he plays in GR when he gets there. Iron Hook is gonna be good, we know this. and Nyquist is the s***. i don't care what anyone says, he had all his points in his first 9-10 games playing in the top 6 and then Franzenfloat came back and produced less points with Gus' ice time and Gus got tossed randomly on the 4th line with Homer and Emmerton and his points vanished along with quality linemates and ice time, while still having flashes of brilliance with linemates that have NO finish. Smith is an upgrade over Stuart who's bags were packed at the trade deadline...best of luck to him elsewhere. Smith will be Kronwall's equal in short order and that makes me very happy. If we get those other guys you mentioned from my other post and somehow add Parise/Suter, the Wings dynasty will start another leg and will probably win 4 more cups in the next 11 years. I will remain positive until Kenny gives me reasons not to be.

i'm gonna buy some red and white construction paper and make a Dats cut out and tape it sideways on my cover so he's hoisting the cup all year. What they should do is release a cover for pre-order for a player from each team and then have the winner of the cover vote for people who don't pre order the game. in no way, shape or form do i want to see a cover with malkin.

How many NHL players over the years have been allowed in the same sentence as Nick or Stevie? Bobby Orr and Doug Harvey for Nick....Gretzky, Francis, Richard, Messier, Lemieux...that's the company Stevie Y holds. We won a cup the year after he retired. The Wings always find a way to re-tool...sign a big name player that wants to win cause that's what the Wings do. Big name players always want to come to the Wings and as long as they wear the Winged Wheel, they have a chance to win. Here's a new tag line for you to use. Dats and Z didn't fall out of Yzerman and Federov's underpants, the Wings found them. Nyquist and Smith WILL be regular producing roster players next year and for the next pile of years to come cause they both proved they are "NHL caliber" as they've actually played NHL games. Coyle and Granlund haven't played s*** in the NHL yet and while they both look like elite prospects, they have to prove it on the real stage before anyone here jerks off to the greatness in Minnesota whom should probably make the playoffs any year now with their top talent. Anyways, if Suter and Parise sign here, or if Kenny signs that other kid that doesn't like ducks, or DeKeyser, the Wings will be looking good again regardless. and Smith had a higher PPG average than any of our dmen in his stint even over Lids and Kronner. That is a "top end prospect" if you ask me.

The Kings aren't really an 8th place team either. They had an injury stretch and a stretch that dropped them down the standings. This Kings team has 4 solid lines, that unlike the Wings in the playoffs, they all contributed. Picking up Carter didn't hurt either. He had a crap year statistically, but he's a big guy that has more than 1 use. Quick and Lundqvist are the 2 best goalies in the league currently and almost met in the finals. Doughty is playing like a beast and having good tough stay at home dmen like Greene and Scuderi doesn't hurt on the back end. Kopitar is proving that he's the real deal, and Brown gets the Conn Smythe if the Kings pull off 1 more round to win it. He's been consistently the best player in the playoffs on any team. Quick is amazing, but last round put him behind Brown for the hardware. We'll see how the SCF goes, but my vote goes to Brown. I am cheering for the Kings anyways, but more so against Parise to get swept so he can come here hopefully 1 July hungry as f***!

As long as the Wings draft a big, fast, hard hitting North American forward then it's all good this draft.

A potential salary in the 4-5 million for a lazy, arrogant, moody floater...no dice. Signing Semin would make the die-hardedness of my Wings fannery not so much. I have great faith that Kenny would not sign Semin as Babcock would probably punch him in the face and tell him that's the last ******* straw. As I said before, this offseason is Parise or bust. And if Nyquist gets top 6 mins all next year, he gets 55-65 pts and wins the Calder.

Another reason that the Europeans would rather stay home and play in the leagues other than the AHL is that a lot of guys in the AHL are pissed that they're there and they play dirty and cheapshot. I saw a decent number of games when the Moose were in Winnipeg and having the Cansucks farm team was no picnic...they played like dicks, aside from Mike Keane. I'd rather play in Europe than the AHL anyday. The only reason that a guy on the cups should come over is to get call-ups and try to stick on the big club.

Agreed. Can't wait to see the Sea Dogs again. I was hoping they'd be back again this year. Huberdeau is great to watch too. Kind of reminds me off Matt Duchene. Good smart player.

Either way we put it, the Sens aren't gonna not match any offer sheet thrown by Kevin Lowe for Karlsson and he'll be on the Sens next year and if i'm not mistaken, they have a s*** load of cap space and a lot of young talent. Alfredsson's contract is up too right? he won't be making 5-6 mil anymore either, so there's more space to sign Karlsson long term for lots of money. Hell, even Volchenkov would make a good pairing with him cause he's super responsible defensively and blocks more shots than the goalie. Our best hope for a bright future lies solely with Parise and Suter. If anything else, toss a few mil at Wideman July 1st and see if he wants to play 2nd PP with a nice right handed shot to offer.

Point is, Lispy Murray has let a few good players go elsewhere and has s*** the bed since the start of the cup finals against the Ducks. Time to keep a couple good players around.

And in Canada i'm pretty sure TSN just plays the Canada games...our team is underachiving offense wise and is kinda boring. I would like to watch all the Sweden games. I am pulling for them above even Canada. Z is my favourite player and overall, I like Sweden's collection of players the best.

If that's the case for a guy that's 42 starting the season, even if he's arguably the best Dman to ever play the game, he should retire so we can not lose a golden opportunity to retool for his nearing departure.

:rotflmao: Have you watched ANY Devils games this year or in the playoffs? His work ethic alone sparked the Devils to a 4-1 series win over the Flyers... No one in that series worked harder than Parise. And skating hard and digging deep like Parise does things that the Wings need and didn't do in their brief playoff run...create scoring chances. Parise comes to the Wings July 1st and they're automatically the cup favourite, especially when Staal leaves the Penguins.

That would be a pretty cool scenario. Babcock actually would probably make a good GM. He knows better than anyone what the Wings are lacking. Stevie would also probably make a pretty damn good coach. I like the idea.

Kenny should offer Quincey a 1 year, 2.5 mil contract to give him the year to play with the Wings and get the chemistry that was lacking cause of the change getting Quincey back and the constant injuries all year at every position. Once the pre-season is ready to kick off, we'll see how the Wings blue line looks and whether or not we have Lids, Suter, Quincey and whoever else Kenny has his sights on. I think personally that it would be a disservice to the Wings tossing a 1st for a rental that still has a lot of potential. He kinda sucked in the playoffs and leading up to them, but he needs to be given a good shot with a regular D partner. if it doesn't work out, then that's the beauty of the 1 year contracts.

Holland has kept the Wings competitive so they always have a shot to go deep in the playoffs, but at the same time, he's been waiting for the big names like Parise and Suter to come along and let the other 29 GM's overspend and sweat to stay under the cap and have to hide guys in the AHL and Europe. This offseason will be a big test for Kenny to see how he can negotiate those 2 big ticket players into coming to the Wings and keep the winning tradition alive. Without acquiring at least 1 of those 2, the Wings will be hard pressed next year to contend for the cup.

agreed on both posts. Penner is lazy and we already have Franzen that is filling the floater role quite well. And Ryan Smyth is old, decrepid and way past his prime...I seem to remember a lot of guys complaining about that problem with the current Wings team, so why add to it?

The Wings leading scorer had under a point per game with Z at 69, Dats 67, Flip 66, Mule 56 and Hudler 50. Playoffs, Dats and Z each had 3 pts in 5 games, Flip and Hudler 2, and Mule with an astonishing 1 point. I'm not saying you're wrong that we need Suter more, but for arguments sake, i'll say we need Parise, a gritty as hell, quick as hell phenom of a 2-way forward to ignite our top 6 along with a needed insertion of Nyquist and his speed and ability where it belongs. Suter isn't as important cause we have an absolute beast coming up full time in Smith and Weber will be UFA after next season and can be bid on if he doesn't sign a huge offer sheet with another team this summer. While i'd love to see a top pairing of Kronwall - Suter, i'd rather see a top line with Dats - Parise - whatever...
