they're gonna be alot better than last year that's for sure. with brendan smith there too hopefully having a great year to start his pro career. him and lilja could be the top D pair for GR.

i definately think captain when i look at lids. he has the same calming presense on the wings that Yzerman had. Steve had a little more fire, but you can say something for a guy that always has a cool head. i sure couldn't keep a cool head like lids when someone f***s with my team...lids likes teeing em' up on the PP though, so he doesn't want his guys matching minors. Z's gonna make a great captain alot like Stevie Y.

the sedin co-captaincy would be as gimicky and laughable as having a goalie as captain with the C on his mask instead of his jersey.

the 15 year deal should have been turned down too. the devils should have only been able to sign kovy for max 13 years ending at age 40. the devils are lucky that kovalchuk isn't signing with a different team right now, or the KHL. when will the NHL get it right and say what's allowed. black and white, no grey area.

agreed. so does adam almqvist. kindl may work out well. we'll still have kronner, stuart, ericsson...those 6 dmen could be pretty lethal at that point in time. trust the draft.

loungo never should have had the C to begin with. goalies are peanut gallerys. the C should go to someone like Kesler. luc bourdon would have been a good choice for captain right around now, but that unfortunate accident stole another quality hockey player. their future captain in 4-5 years tops is cody hodgson. both sedins keep A's.

hopefully for the pens he can play wing. crosby, malkin and staal are centre (even though malkin would be better served on crosby's wing) so unless he wants to play on the 4th line when staal gets back he better diversify.

i'm with you on this. i don't like losing guys like quincey and leino who didn't get any ice time to tap out their real potential. leino was a big player in philly's cup run and in a way it hurt. draper and maltby were done a couple years ago as far as effectiveness goes. if malts signs, he better be a mentor in GR all year. ice time shouldn't be given to him over guys like ritola, miller or even meech if there's injuries. and if there is injuries, i'd rather see tatar if a fwd is needed and smith if a dman is needed to see how they handle "the show" when called up. maltby should work with the likes of andersson as it seems that he will eventually have the same type of role as a grinder with the wings in years to come. after this season there will be a few spots to be taken by the young guys as well. possible retirees are modano, lids, draper, ozzy, maltby. that's atleast a roster spot at F, D and goal. lets hope mccollum doesn't play s***ty this year and howard and the wings brass can be comfortable with the howard/mccollum tandem. forward spot after this season sounds like tatar may be the guy as long as he continues to improve and that other D spot has smith's name all over it. so if someone else wants one of those spots, they better impress like crazy. all in all, maltby needs to stay in GR ALL year and help out the team that employed him way past when he was useful.

that's a great 2nd line...dats and Z should still be around in 2015. i like the 1st line of: dats - Z - nyquist a third line of flip - helm - andersson sounds nice too rounded out with sheahan - abby - ferraro that's a while away though... i'm also very interested to see how the D situation works itself out when lids retires. with smith, almqvist, lashoff, nicastro, etc the wings should have young depth to fill spots with. kindl will hopefully pan out this year and by the sounds of it, it smith has a strong year in GR, he should have a good chance to make the 2011-12 wings team. almqvist shouldn't be too far behind smith as soon as he adds some more muscle.

kovalev. this man has no heart for the game. he is lazy and a smug *******. i'd definately put the professor in before that slug. and i'd also put fetisov in before that defensive disaster gonchar. if konstantinov got to play longer, he would be on that list for sure. he was a beast. the most noteworthy russian goalie of all time is tretiak hands down. he helped revolutionalize goaltending and inadvertantly made ken dryden a better goalie from dryden watching his pre-game warm-up styles and what not. i really wish that mikhailov and kharlamov played in the NHL. they would have really set the bar high for russians. and if way back then the russian players could come over to the NHL, the situations present today would probably not be so harsh for russian players signing and drafting.

the age guerin's at with his totals going down annually since his 36 goal campaign in STL in 06-07, without playing on a 1st line with crosby or malkin, he'll get 15 goals tops on some teams 2nd line if he gets 2nd line mins. if on 3rd line, pencil him in for 10 and 35 pts.

i was thinking the same thing for a while, but kronwall is pretty steady back there and can play with anyone. it would almost make more sense to have lids out with the weakest link (ericsson) to help his game along to a much higher level before lids retires. that is also planning for the future. the wings are gonna have lots of young dmen in the next few years with the likes of kindl, smith, almqvist to add to the already solid D roster of kronwall, stuart, rafs(for a few more) and to a lesser extend ericsson. i'm excited to see the potential that the wings have in their system. hopefully they ALL work out and the wings have a ridiculously potent young as hell blueline...that wins cups...

20 mins/game for each pairing and ericsson gets to play with the best to hopefully mould him into a force on defense. maybe switch kindl in place of salei throughout the year to get him some good experience. with guys like lids, kronwall, rafs and stuart, having rookies/sophmores paired with talent like that eases your mind a lot.

and then we have a team with 2 good players that get a bad wrap cause when their team makes it to the playoffs, they don't "step up" and win games for their mediocre team against the team that should be in the playoffs. i like watching shootouts, but i'd rather not see the clingon team making the playoffs cause they win 15 shootouts, 28 reg season games and 10 OT/shootout losses instead of the team that goes 45-32-5

i've been saying this since the shootout came into the NHL. too many mediocre teams are getting free points to stay respectable in the standings. 3 point wins separates the teams that go for the wins and the teams that can't get over that hump and take the other team down.

wasn't nyquist signed to an entry level contract? either way, i'm sure the wings would pay to get him to and from the camp if he wanted to participate. him, sheahan and tatar are hopefully going to be forces for the wings for years to come once they get up to the team, so it would be good to see as much of them as we can. i hope almqvist and jarnkrok are both on the WJ Sweden team and tear s*** up good in the tourney.

why aren't nyquist and almqvist at the prospects tourney?? i think raedeke is going to impress along with andersson as far as shutdown guys go. coetzee is a guy i'm interested to see more of. he seems to have some good potential. hopefully tatar tears s*** up.

my wife likes Ovechkin cause he's always excited and fun to watch...and cause he looks like a caveman. she finds him humourous. i think she's starting to become a bit of a wings fan, but she often claims she hates hockey due to the fact that the general perception people have is hockey means more to me than anything and that i ignore her... that's not really fair though...i only ignore EVERYTHING and EVERYONE during Wings games! she's coming around though. we went to brandon to see the wheat kings pound the regina pats. she had a great time at that game.

EA did alot of work on the hitting and there's a new collision detection that makes no 2 hits alike apparently. NHL 11 is going to be insane!

yup, pretty much what i was getting at. burke wants too much for kaberle and he's gonna get nothing when he walks as a UFA next summer. burke was offered ryan malone, and he was offered a 1st and some D prospect by the sharks apparently. personally, i would have taken the D prospect and a 1st rounder and got kaberle off the books. yzerman wants to get rid of malone and his salary that feaster did before he got canned so he would have atleast traded salaries and had kaberle's off the books to either let him walk or sign a new deal. either way, leafs fans are gonna be pissed if they get nothing at all for him.
