That was also before the slo-mo clip was brought to my attention. From any of the other clips it was impossible to see Downie's feet leaving the ice before he made contact with Mcammond. If you read my later posts you will see that I have changed the fact that it was a clean hit. I still don't think its worth 20 games. There's not much that I would say " ya that deserves 20 games" Simon and McSorely are the only 2 events that I feel deserved 20 games.
-
You guys are making it sound like I'm condoning Downie's hit. I'm in noway stated that. All I'm saying is that 20 games is way too much, especially when suspensions don't really teach a guy a lesson. ( Just ask Simon) Guys like Downie, Tootoo , Neil, Avery etc need to be beat down before they will comprehend that what they are doing is ignorant. i don't like watching guys get hurt, but I do enjoy hard body checks. And I do have a close relation to a few guys who play in the NHL and I wouldn't want them to get hurt like Dean, and I know they don't think Downie deserved 20 games+ like most of the other idiots like Jason Blake are saying.
-
You just made your self sound like a complete tool. How is cross checking anymore a part of the game as a body check? So he left his feet, are you saying that if he kept his feet on the ground and crossed checked Mcammond as hard as he could that it wouldn't warrant a suspension? Thats retarted . All I am trying to state is that 20 games is retarded for something that is always going to happen when hitting is allowed in hockey. I agree a suspension was warranted , maybe 5 games at the most, why not let the league police its self like in the past , like Lids has stated. He would get his lumps , learn his lesson and they would move on, that system works better than 20 games for this guy, 1 games for this guy.

Here's one that should work, not sure why the other one doesn't for you. nfl hits not all of these are headshots, but alot of the are, it has happened alot in the nfl. Even though they have rules against it. they allow it cause people like them and they are part of the game. As with the downie hit, its just part of the game. It's sad ppl get hurt but thats the game, if you dont like the risk then dont play.

NFL hits There you go. There's lots of head shots there. So there's the s***. Now grab a spoon and eat it .

Every week in football there is at least one highlight of a guy getting crushed with a shoulder to the head , or a head to the chest type hit. It's definitely common practice in the NFL. And if you can't get over people getting crushed and ending up hurt, go watch some euro hockey or figure skating. ( saying this cuz its as retarded and pointless as your ufc comment).

Wow .. i'm realy impressed with the kings play today. Possibly a cup contender if they keep that up. I hope they win again tomorrow, that way the ducks will lose their first 3 games. What a start for defending champs.

Yes. Thats exactly what I'm saying. A Suspension does not teach guys like him a lesson, getting punded by McGratton or someone would have a bigger effect on him than a 200 game suspension. The loser commish needs to let the league's tough guys police the league.Things will go back to the respect that there was 10 years ago. He sucks? are you retarded or something. The guy played 45 games in the OHL last season and accumulated 92 points. That is hardly someone who sucks. He WILL be a top 6 in this league and will be able to play on any teams top 2 lines. People like you who know nothing about him and what he has done should shut the f*** up and stop basing your opinion on 1 hit. Soneone who makes the CANADIAN ( not american or russian or anyother inferior country in hockey ) World Junior team can't suck. Downie's Stats there's his OHL #'s He did win the gold medal with them twice and amassed 6 pts in 06 and 5 pts in 07, pretty respectable numbers in that tourney.

I have to say I'm a little disappointed, especially since Quincey is hurt. Chicago just keeps looking more dangerous this year, they're definitely a dark horse in the league.
-
It will be a long time, your right. A suspension won't do anything, he is a loose cannon, what he need is a 5 game suspension, and to take his lumps. he won't learn untill he gains respect. Suspensions don't teach respect. I think Philly should set him up with a mentor to try and make this kid realize he has a special talent and an opportunity to showcase that to the rest of the league.
-
I'm not saying he'll be good as new, but maybe he will be able to skate with the big boys by then? If not get rid of him, last thing we need is Alexander Daigle on our team.
-
Repeat offender how? It's his first crime in the NHL, therefore should be treated as such. The NHL totally over reacted , as did most of the players, this just f***s them later when idiots like pronger do the same thing and will get 5 games. Also Hank, the league should not determine a suspension based on the time of the season that it occurs. If this hit happens in the playoffs , regardless of who the players are, they better get 20 ******* games . That would be the NHL growing balls. Not this absolutely ludicrous suspension of 20 games for a hit that was not that bad, not that bad at all.
-
Absolutely ******* ridiculous. The NHL is so f***ed up it makes me sick. By giving him 20 games they are saying that hit was as bad ad Simons stick to Hollwegg's face? and that he's as bad as repeat offender Simon. Give me a ******* break. f*** the nhl f*** them up their stupid asses!

We better win. To lose to the Leafs would be very very disappointing.
-
I'd say alot of it has to do with that. which is why another year in Russia or a year with GR would help him get back to his old form.
-
Aaron Downey!
-
The more i read about this guy he reminds me of Alexander Daigle. Tons of potential and skill, just doesn't want to use it. But the goal was pretty sweet.
-
I'd say alot of Moore's injusy was caused by the 8 guys jumping ontop of him and Bert. He'd probly still be playing if they hadn't.
-
Thank you for that vid. It is the only one I have seen to show that he did leave his feet prior to impact. Still doesn't change the fact that he doesn't deserve more than 3-5 games. Personally I think you're an idiot. Have you ever watched him play? The kid is full of talent. FYI he made the Canadian World Junior team and helped them win gold. They don't take talentless players for the Canadian World Juniors, they are the cream of the crop of junior hockey.

i'll just decline to comment then.

and it wasn't a flying elbow as you call it. it was a shoulder to the chin. Downie's skates were still on the ice during contact. WOW .. I forget who was on XM today when I was listening .. Might have been rossy, but they were saying how this whole thing was blown out of proportion and that the hits were no different. They said anything more than a couple games was overkill. I can't believe the over reaction that the is taking place over it. Was the hit over agressive? absolutely. was it that bad? definitely not. Those hits are very similar.

well here are the lines that i think would be better suited for a combo of grit and scoring. homer-dats-zetts franzen-flip-sammy/hudler cleary-draps-malts drake-kopecky-downey thats my take on how I would like the lines ... really doubtful to happen. i feel that if sammy slumps .. put hudler in and see how he does and dump of sammy.. give us more cap room to play at the deadline if needed. defence lids-sopel rafalski-kronwall chelios-lebda lilja or quincey for the 7th dman
-
I'm sure buddy. thats nice but under the rules its classified as boarding. It's the Referee's discretion to make that choice. But the hit wasn't as bad as everyone is making it. It is exactly the same as one of the most noted hits in hockey. When Wendel Clark layed out Bruce Bell. Those hits are the same and from what i remember Clark did not recieve a suspension.
-
Yes , I understand that. But i'd rather have Downey on my crah and bang ine than malts. I like malts but he certainly isn't a crash and banger like Downey. I really doubt malts is gonna stick up for someone when the get rocked or something. He is a great fit with draper on a defensive forward line.
