I didn't think I would have to do this unless the Wings were getting beaten down in the Playoffs.. but after the other night I think it's time for me to move on to a new lucky hat. I really hope the Wings come out and dominate today because a look at the standings says there is a very good possibility that the Preds will the the first round opponent. A win tonight and the Wings go into that series with this game as their freshest memory against Nashville, as opposed to the memories of barely being able to score a goal against Rinne. LETS GO WINGS!

I figured this thread could use some outsider input.. And some grammar that can make us all feel better about ourselves.. so I copied the first few comments off of the question SportsButters posted on facebook.. the question was "What Happened To The Wings Last Night?" I bolded some of my favourite answers.

The only real positive thing about the timing of this is that the Wings dont play again til Saturday afternoon which means they will get to stew over this embarassment until then. I obviously havent watched Wings hockey for as long as some of the other posters here but I have been a Wings fan for as long as I can remember and I don't think I have ever seen anything as telling about the Wings as I did in the 3rd when the camera focused on Lidstrom sitting on the end of the bench, he just looked completely pissed off and frustrated with how the team was playing.. I dont think the Wings need a bag skate or anything like that, they need to sit in the video room for the next 2 days and just watch that clip of Lidstrom's face over and over again then go out on Saturday and play some god damn hockey for a change. They should also make it their mission to do whatever it takes to help their captain finish the season with a plus, they owe him that much.

So, I assume all of the fans that showed up tonight at the Joe got a full refund and an apology card as they left the arena?

Lidstrom does not look impressed. That is probably the only positive thing I have seen all night.

Ohh.. now the Wings are officially embrassaed?.. Figured they would have to show up to the game in order to get embarassed in it.

Well.. if the Wings continue to play like this for the rest of the season and into the playoffs I have a long summer of Alcoholics Anonymous ahead of me..

So, the only game the Wings have won recently was against Toronto.. oddly enough thats the only game I made a pregame plea to the Wings in the GDT. With Toronto I was able to beg for a win so my facebook wouldn't get over run with cocky Leafs fans. That probably won't be the case now as I'm pretty sure I don't know a single Blues fan. So lets see.. Wings, you need to win this game to finally bring peace to the middle east! Don't let the terrorists win! There, that should do. LETS GO WINGS!

Zero Games. The idiot Versus announcers said he should have gone shoulder to shoulder.. but in my opinion if he had done that he would have destroyed Johnson and sent him smashing into the boards.. He turned his back so he wouldnt hurt him and Johnson ducked under so Berts elbow and arm ended up riding up over him.. Easy to see why the call was made when you watch it at full speed, especially the angle that the referee would have seen.. but no games. Bertuzzi has been pretty careful about being physical ever since the Moore incident so I don't think he gets anything for this.

The one thing I enjoyed was the Versus idiots saying that Bertuzzi should have skated forward into the player and hit him shoulder on shoulder.. Which is ridiculous.. They were like 3 feet from the boards, if Bert hits him shoulder to shoulder in the posistion he was in he could have destroyed him, likely been ejected anyways and there might have been a stretcher involved.. Bert turned his back so he wouldnt hurt the guy and when he ducked Bert's elbow came back up over him.. All in all a good game with shotty officiating.. so.. status quo in the NHL.

So.. lets see.. 1st period refs called everything a penalty.. 2nd period, although seemingly played the same way, they didn't call anything.. final 10 minutes of an otherwise great game with the score 2-2.. the penalties magically go 3-1 in favor of the team who is struggling to stay in the playoffs.. i think i finally understand parity.. .. The penalty with 3.7 seconds left would have been a borderline call halfway through the game, but with 3.7 left in a 2-2 game thats not at all a necessary call considering some of the things they let go.. and at least most of the time you give a team a 4 on 3 they will score on it.. its a shame that everytime a Detroit goalie seems to have a good game the Wings still end up losing one way or another.

Good, they scored early.. now I can spend all game listening to the Versus jackasses tell me about how Chicago is better than Detroit..

If you look at things comparitively between that Goal by Lupul and the typical No-Goals by Holmstrom.. if Holmstrom had done the EXACT same thing as Lupul.. not only would it have been no-goal but probably a 5-Minute major and a game misconduct.

Holmstrom's Ass hovers over the crease = Goaltender Interference. Lupul falls on Jimmy and lays on him = Good Goal. Got it. Hudler gets it back though so Im SLIGHTLY less pissed.

I can handle losing to Vancouver.. and even to Pittsburgh.. But there is nothing I hate worse then the onslaught of ridiculous Leafs fans who will immediately swarm my facebook wall to proclaim that Toronto is better than Detroit.. Let's Go Wings!

I was unaware that you were the judge of who which teams qualified for this fictional tournament, my appologies.. Why wouldn't they want to make the tournament more competitive and have the best possible teams play?.. And there is obviously enough hockey players in each province to make a team, I just focused on active or relatively active NHL players. And what would be wrong with a South Atlantic and s South Pacific team? You're gonna disqualify some of the best players in the NHL just because they don't have enough active NHL players to make a team?
