This idea sounds better than it actually is. Lidstrom is amazing, dont get me wrong, but I don't want Lidstrom at a 5 million dollar cap hit when he is 45, unless he plays on a one year deal every year until then and continues to play at or near his current level.

Right now there is an NHL.com poll asking the same question, "How far will the Red Wings go this year?" Currently The Results are not so much in the Wings' favour. Win the Cup: 29.70 % Win the West: 27.73 % Second round: 42.57 % I guess the Wings sweeping the Yotes has done nothing to sway the seemingly "underdog" label.. well as Underdog as the Wings can be viewed I guess.
-
Hart Trophy: Darren Helm. (I only sway towards Helm instead of Dats because really Dats was expected to be the force in this series with Z out, but I dont think anyone expected Helm to dominate the entire Coyotes team like he did.) Lady Byng: Brian Rafalski Vezina: Evgeni Naba... wait.. Jimmy Howard. Norris: Kronwall Bill Masterton: Ruslan Salei Ted Lindsay: Darren Helm Jack Adams: Jim Bedard Best Moment: Franzen returning to the bench with his face mangled. Worst Moment: Any time I saw Jovo trying to be a bad ass with his cage on.
-
God that cage pisses me off. I hope that if game 4 gets out of hand Bert peels that cage off his ugly face and re-breaks that orbital bone. See how tough he is then.
-
Dont let Bettman see this.. no need to give him any ideas.

The playoffs start tomorrow night.. right guys?

You're welcome to disagree with me all you like, but I think the point you are making is irrelevant in Modano's case. The guy hasn't been that good when he played this year and he suffered what could have been a career ending injury. If it was someone else and it was some big surprise they were retiring then most definitely keep that s*** private and behind closed doors. But that's not the case here, very few, if any, were expecting Modano to play next year after the way this season has gone for him, there is no point in him hiding it or trying to ***** foot around it.
-
I respectfully disagree with you. I think it might have been more of a dick move if Modano was on fire all year and played like he was 30 while putting up 10-20 goals. But he didn't he has played like he was 40. I dont think anyone was seriously under the impression he would be back next year, especially on a Wings team he struggles to be in the lineup for now. I don't see the harm in him suggesting he probably will retire. That way the team can focus on playing and he can focus on giving it one last run.
-
Wait.. how was it a dick move? I cant tell if that's sarcasm or not. I dont think it's any surprise Modano wont be back next year and he is like 40.. whats the problem with being honest about it?
-
Damn, I wish someone had of told me Detroit only had a 0.26% chance of winning the cup. I guess I might as well not watch now.. the whole playoffs is ru-eened. EDIT: Just did one of their Sim Games. Wings won 5-2.. This happened in the 2nd.. "16:02 10-11 Red Wings 4 minute double-minor penalty on Ruslan Salei for charging"

Let's Go Wings, Playtime is over.
-
I kind of expected that he would be gone next season.. I think he knows that as it is he can barely make the Wings this year (And that's not a knock on Mo, I actually enjoy watching him play, just being realistic). I just hope that this means he puts everything he has left in the tank into this playoff run and the Wings can send him off in style with a Stanley Cup.
-
6' 7.. Thats almost an entire foot over the Wings target area.
-
I think it's probably due to GR not making the playoffs (I dont follow GR too closely so I cant speak for previous years). But I dont really see any harm in calling up as many players as they can, I doubt any of them will see any time at all unless there are injuries (maybe an exception for Mursak if the team needs a boost). But why not bring them all up, let them see what Red Wings hockey is all about and then have them come into training camp next year with even more motivation to make the team.
-
I havent so far this season, why the hell would I start now?! Haha.. I'll be sporting more of a playoff Goatee. And I hope it ends up being a bloody long one.
-
You know how all of those NHL teams have the motivational writing on the way to the ice to get them pumped up? I think at some point in this season someone snuck into the Joe and covered up what was originally there with a banner that just says "Do it for the lulz" I mean I was kind of expecting the Wings to come out slow the next two games but SERIOUSLY? Jeezus.
-
HA!
-
This is kind of what I was worried about.. not that the Hawks are a better team than the Wings but they could have a lot of momentum built up if the Wings let them roll over them these last two games and then end up meeting in the first round. In any case, I would like to see the Wings come out and get a couple more solid games under their belt just as a confidence boost for the playoffs, but like most people have stated this far, I wont be too surprised or stressed out if the Wings come out soft, especially since that seems to be the way they have played meaningless games this year.
-
Did anybody else happen to notice that the team was playing okay and then as soon as Z left it looked like the whole team just stopped trying? Not that a win means much besides 2nd place at this point.. but I would at least like to see the Wings make an attempt to play well enough the rest of the season to get Lids onto the Plus side.
-
It seems like it could be a safe pick up. Let him come to camp next year and see if he can bounce back, if he sucks then I don't believe there is any rule saying that The Wings cant just waive him again (Correct me if im wrong here). If thats the case then there is really no harm in grabbing him. If he has a great rebound year he will look like a steal at 800k, and if not, send him down to GR or hope someone else picks him up.
-
Hmm.. were you watching the same game as I was yesterday? Just because the Wings went down 3-0 does not mean they came out flat. They got a couple good hits in the very first shift and were very up tempo through most of the period.
-
I wonder if Jimmy gets the starts back to back coming off an injury? If not I gotta think JMac is due for a bounceback. Gotta hope the Wings can keep the momentum rolling and just run through the Wild. If the Wings play like they did against Nashville plus possibly (hopefully!) having Datsyuk in the line up, there is no reason they should lose this game. LETS GO WINGS!

I am not sure it really warrants a review, they already allow all of the officials to come together and decide what the right call is, most of the time they will make the right call because of the four officials one was bound to see it clearly. In any case, it's pretty rare to see this many in one game for one team so I don't think it's a big deal in the end. The only time it would ever consider being looked at as a singular issue is if one was a bad call in game 7 OT and cost somebody a cup. Other than that the only way I see it being reviewable is if they start allowing coaches to "challenge" penalties, then if a player was 100% certain it was deflected he could let the coach know and he could challenge it.
-
It has seemed like every game the Wings played against Nashville O'Brien has been hitting people and running his mouth. I noticed after Bert slapped him around twice he was nearly invisible during the rest of the game.

Its a good thing this is a bounceback game..
