    Capitals ?!?!

Maybe I missed the thread on this but I'm blown away that 2 days ago the Caps were out of the playoffs and now they jumped Carolina and are the #3 seed!! Unbelievable run. Hats off to them.

    Chelios the Warrior

"And it's why his Red Wings, with Cup-quality talent but questionable spine, need the player they call The Godfather now more than ever." How do the wings have questionable spine?

    Holmstrom

If it's a sports hernia, he's pretty much done this season. Surgery + recovery is usually 6-8 weeks. Keep your fingers crossed.

Wings GM says Chris Chelios likely to be back next year

I'm not sure why you quoted me on this? I was replying to the previous person who thinks Eriksson is ready to jump into the lineup. No where in there did I say I didn't want Chelios back. I think Chelios plays a great game and is in excellent physical shape. Brining him back next season is a no-brainer.

Eriksson is still at least a year or so away from making the roster as a full time player

    Best Quote of the Day

"Speaking of injuries, what's this we've been hearing from the Red Wings about knees and shoulders and jaws and groins and such? We're closing in on mid-March, you know. When are they going to turn into upper- and lower-body injuries?" - Detroit Free Press. This can't be more true, haha. It's time for that transition.

    Forsberg nursing groin injury.

cause no one has ever heard such a funny idea said so harshly. I'm still laughing about it.

    Around The Horn

Do you realize the NHL has been around longer than the NFL and NBA in the United States? Only sport beating it out historically is MLB which is as old as dirt (pun intended )

    Around The Horn

The hosts' name is Tony Reali. The show is the biggest joke as well. Reali constantly takes shots at the NHL. Besides his prick-ish personality, others like Woody Paige, another moron, also take shots at the NHL. I wouldn't be surprised if ESPN has told all these guys to limit NHL talk, with the possiblity to avoid any possible press it could get. I'm sure for ESPN, if there's the potiential to make money and they are not involved, then they'll repress it any way possible. Thoughts?

    Foote Story Leaks Out

Adam Foote's good name is taking a pounding following his trade-deadline move from Columbus to his old stomping grounds in Colorado. Foote never wanted to leave Denver in the first place, but he was victim to the team's cost-cutting after the lockout. Foote signed in Columbus as a free agent before the start of the 2005-06 season. Word out of Columbus, courtesy of The Columbus Dispatch beat writer Aaron Portzline, is Foote jacked up his salary demands when discussing a contract extension with rookie GM Scott Howson, asking for $8 million over two years. Then, when the Blue Jackets kept pace with their offer (in the neighborhood of $7 million for two years) and asked to continue talks after the deadline, Foote reportedly told the team he had no interest in staying and wanted out. Portzline reports Foote had a private jet waiting to ferry him to Calgary to join the Avs for a game Tuesday night. Couldn't wait to get out of town, eh, Adam? If true, expect the hockey gods to have their revenge on Mr. Foote before this is done. When Foote becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer, there isn't an NHL team anywhere that will approach the kind of money his camp was allegedly asking for last week. -Scott Burnside

    ESPN hits new low

That tells us how little you know about the game or marketing. More people in America are playing hockey now than ever. It's popular, but companies, like ESPN has an agenda and won't give the NHL the time of day because they don't have an NHL contract. ESPN is only the world wide leader in sports that have a hand in.

    Darren McCarty Progress Thread

MLIVE: General manager Ken Holland said he has made a contract offer to Darren McCarty. It's for the league minimum for the rest of the season (about $100,000, prorated). McCarty has not accepted yet. There's no reason to believe he won't accept it, though. Once he's signed, he'll remain in Grand Rapids on a two-week conditioning stint.

    How'd It Come to This?

Not not panicing but, does anybody realize that our only two defensemen left with quality NHL experience are Lebda and Lilja? Lidstrom, Chelios, Rafalski, and Kronwall and In net, Hasek still out. Anyone else worried all these injuries will come back to bite the wings in the butt? I mean, all the injuries are non-season ending but how will this effect team chemistry come late march early april + who ever we get at the deadline? Thoughts?

    Darren McCarty Progress Thread

You can't scratch Downey for McCarty. He's earned his spot on this team, especially after the Colorado game. He's also one of the most popular guys in the dressing room. I like McCarty and I want him back on the Wings, but I'd much rather see BOTH McCarty and Downey in the lineup compared to Ellis/Kopecky. Believe it or not, I'd take McCarty and Downey over Drake too, despite he recent grittier play. Am I wrong here?
