He's a good player with a crappy rep. The not wanting to play for his hometown team just feeds into his crabbiness. He's a player to like from afar, but I wouldst want him on my team anymore. That said if somehow Holland goes and trades for Kesler tomorrow, I'm sure I'd learn to live with him.

I went the other way with Kesler. I used to really like him, but then all the rumors started about him not wanting to come to Detroit (whether true or false). so my love affair with him ended.

I absolutely hated Tootoo, but now that he played for the Wings. I actually grew to like him quite a bit. I also feel bad for the raw deal he got with the Wings.

Selanne. I used to loath him, but since he retired I've come to respect his career.

I think people can still have an opinion (based on other factors then just the eye test), but I agree fans do have to be more objective. Prospect love has griped the nation, be it in the NHL, MLB, or college Football. Some fail to realize that more prospects fall flat on their face/get injured, then actually hit it big. Before last season Mantha hype got out of control. Now a year later "he's a gutless giant". Who knows what tomorrow holds.

Yeah, but to make that kind of assessment it would require people too consistently watch GR games. Which I don't think a lot of fans spend time doing. I know living outside Michigan, I don't have the option to watch GR play. I rely on "analysts", what I read on here, and the couple of games a season that I see these guys play with the Wings-to form an opinion on the minor leaguers.

Can Blashill be considered a prospect?

There seems to be an over reliance on points in this thread, and while points are a good indication of a players success they don't tell the whole story. Say Franzen scores 30 goals but has stretches where he disappears for 15 games at a time. Is he as good as a player that scores 30 goals, but is constantly in the game contributing? I will say this that I initially thought Towes and Z where more similar in their prime, but it does look like Z was a superior player. Though after all the injuries, points not withstanding, at present Toews is a better all around player.

Yes Zetterberg put up more points, and in that respect he was a better player. I'd also argue that the Wings teams in Z's prime were better then the current Blackhawks teams, which improved Z's stats. Would Toewes have had more points if he played with Pav, Hull, and Lidstrom? Possibly. IMHO numbers not withstanding, Toews and Z are similar type players. However if you want to argue that Z had a better career? Then I agree with you.

I didn't vote because the second question should have an equal option. Toews is the better player now, but in Z's prime they were very similar.

Gus will usually end up with more points, but as an overall player I'll take Tatar.
