too lazy to check for previous posts but has anyone mentioned that they basically changed the rules on injury reporting because of roberts' punch on franzen? teams no longer have to report even upper or lower body injury. all they have to say is INJURED because the NHL is worried about players targetting opponents injuries after the roberts sucker punch on franzen.

avery is smart and doesnt take stupid penalties. the guy is a force and can really dictate a game because he attracts so much attention. the guy is the ultimate in distracting the opposition but i just cannot applaud his tactics. i like a guy who keeps his mouth shut and just plays the game and a yappy kid like avery is very unappealing to me. i love fighting and all but i dont understand it when agitators literally research the other teams fighters' families and then carve them. it disgusts me. that being said, avery is gonna get paid.

there's a reason he is an all-star every year. kaberle is as good a puck moving defenseman as there is and like you mentioned his contract is awesome (i cant believe im saying this about a JFJ contract...okay antropov's is looking good but it took him 7 years to develop so maybe not so great).

they dont have any young talent. luke schenn and stralman obviously but who's next? tlusty is decent but wont be on a top line with sundin anymore. williams? harrison (if and when he ever gets to play), the younger, crappier kronwall? robbie earl is decent and probably one of their best prospects at this point. its going to be a dismal season and here's looking at missing the playoffs for a 4th year. gotta wonder who theyre going to sign though because their roster has a lot of holes. blake-antropov-ponikarovsky tlusty-stajan-steen bell-newbury-mayers (this actually sounds like a fun line to watch!) earl- undetermined -williams kaberle- mccabe kubina-stralman colaicovo-schenn (kronwall or white)

okay guys, i have seen way too many threads today about players who detroit will have no interest in whatsoever and i thought i would make one where we can discuss realistic additions that can be afforded. personally i think we need a winger to get sammy off the second line and these two guys might come at a decent price. michael ryder might be a good fit and has potential to score 25-30 goals. cory stillman has won 2 cups and could also be a good winger to take sammy off the second line.

ron wilson loves kubina and wanted him like crazy at the deadline in san jose. mccabe has stuck by his position of "no way in hell" am i leaving and a buyout of his contract doesnt make a lot of sense. i would be very surprised to see either of these guys go.

im too lazy to look but please tell me you arent one of these people who are interested in marc denis, andrew raycroft, brad isbister, kyle wellwood... these guys are cheap and seem to have flown under the radar so far so either could make a good addition to our second line.

yeah that would have been the best line but i just meant that he has never had a real goal scorer on his wing. gilmour once potted 32 with mats on his line and andreychuk's best was 22 that year. the guy has never had a real sniper and he still has put up amazing numbers over his career.

i find myself doing this quite often when discussing the leafs, and once again, i agree with everything mack attack is saying. as a faithful leafs fan of more than 20 years and someone who watches over 70 of their games a season i can say for certain that mats is as good as anyone in the NHL. the guy has so much heart its ridiculous. any and every team is going to bid on this guy and last season he was lights out. look at how many points he has over his career 1321 in 1305 games and now try to think of the best winger he has had to play with. is it mogilny with 166 points in 3 seasons? sergei berezin who once scored 37 goals? im having a hard time remembering so feel free to remind me. imagine this guy with some real linemates and remember he will likely be on a warpath because if you ask me he is super pissed off after being treated like s*** in toronto.

avery is a disgrace and he will also want somewhere in the neighbourhood of 4 million. i like to think detroit is a classier organization than to sign this kid.

we have plenty of big bodies to stand in front of the net. homer, franzen and cleary are all much more talented than knuble so we just dont need him.

no, we do not need any of the leafs castoffs. i would take dominic moore over wellwood any day because hudler is far better than wellwood. the guy is fat and lazy and refuses to take hockey seriously enough to work out in the offseason. he also gets injured non stop and has this weird hernia thing that seems to pop up once every two weeks.
