Leino to Flyers for Tollefsen and a 5th Rounder

I know, right? The Wings record with drafting those damn Euro's sure does stink! Look at these bums; Lidstrom, Fedorov, Konstantinov, Kozlov, Holmstrom, Fischer, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Hudler, Filppula..................and on and on and on You're probably best off admitting the FACT that the Wings would NEVER have dominated the NHL over the past 15 years if it weren't for their pioneering and development of the Europena draft.

Leino to Flyers for Tollefsen and a 5th Rounder

Pretty smart depth move. Trade Leino, which I'm indifferent about, so we can pick up cap space = Good Pick up a 5th round pick, which, in the Wings hands = Good And pick up a depth d-man, that, even though, he is headed to GR = Good This allows the Wings to move either Lebda or Meech w/o being solely dependent on Lilja making a successful comeback. Think about it, if Lebda or Meech were moved in favor of Lilja and then for whatever reason Lilja has a setback or doesn't pick his game up where he left off, we'd be stuck with Kindl as the next guy down the chart. Now, Tollefsen takes that extra depth spot as a proven (albeit, not great) NHL d-man. P.S. - I do like Kindl and look forward to him being on the squad next season, but for a playoff run this year, I'd rather have an extra experienced NHL D-man around.
  7. Am I the only one who thinks that Williams should have to work his ass off to move up the depth chart past guys like Eaves, Miller or Helm? Like, maybe, he should show that he can, actually, venture into the corners or the hard areas of the ice to retreive the puck, take a hit to make a play, not shoot the puck into the opposing teams shins while on the PP? I'm sorry, except for PP duties, there is not one guy in the Wings current line-up that I would remove in favor of Williams. And I am, absolutely, against him being handed his previous position just for coming back, while guys like Miller, Helm and Eaves have busted their ass and EARNED that slot.

    Injury updates...

It's going to be great to get Flip, Franzen and Kronwall back, but honestly, there is not one player in the current line-up tha I would replace with Jason Williams. The longer he's out the better this team is.

Corretc me if I'm wrong but from my count the Wings have Franzen - Datsyuk - Holstrom Bert - Z - Cleary Lieno - Flip - Williams Maltby - Draper - Abs - Eaves Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Stuart Ericsson - Meech How are they dressing 6 D and 13 Forwards? Special rule for this exhibition game?

    Holland on Lines

I really do not like Cleary on the top line with Z and Datsyuk, he doesn't think the game or move the puck fast enough to make the best of their abilities. Homer worked so well with those two because he realized the faster he dug the puck out of the corner and got it to one of them the better off he was. I got so frustrated during the playoffs watching Cleary dig for the puck in the corner and then just grind it out along the wall while D and Z skated aorund in circles. I also don't want to see Cleary carrying the puck through the neutral zone. He needs to get the puck and make quick passes and realize the least amount of time he's got the puck and the more time he's banging and creating space and going to the front of the net the better off his whole line will be.

Ken Holland about next years roster and williams

I would rather see Aaron Downey playing the point on the PP. I'm completely fine with the Wings style of play and the way they do things, but this Jason Williams thing is such a step backwards in so many ways. I mean, the kid has no backbone whatsoever and his two-way play is brutal. Whatever offense he contributes will be negated by his lack of grit and turnovers. He was the poster child for the type of player the Wings needed to get rid of two years ago and it's even worse that we're bringing him back now after losing the depth Hudler and Samuelsson provided. I hate this move at every level.

What? This is Derek Meech we're talking about, right? I've not seen any of those traits out of him.

The Biggest Problem with the Defense and Osgood

I'm not arguing stats, because, obviously Osgood's were better in '97. What the argument I was referring to was that the team plays better in front of one goaltender than the other. In '97 Bowman went to Vernon for the majority of critcial games, especially down the stretch. I remember telling a couple of my buddies in January of '97 that Vernon was going to be Bowman's guy for the playoffs and they thought I was nuts. The reason was the Wings seemed to play a more controlled game in front of Vernon than Osgood, people argue that the Wings didn't have as much confidence in Vernon so they beared down more. That's the argument a lot of people are making now, the team bears down more in front of Conklin than they do Osgood. The real difference is that Vernon and Conklin are much better at controlling their rebounds and pace of the game, that's what accounts for the apparent discrepency in the way the Wings play in front of either goaltender.

    Meech not NHL ready?

I was at the game last night and, in person, one really gets a really good look at how badly Meech does suck. He's too timid, his footwork is terrible and he can't handle the puck to save his life. I would take Lebda in the lineup over Meech every day of the week. Lebda can at least skate and stickhandle at the same time. Meech's favorite move is to be unable to hold the puck in at the blueline and as he retreats to go back and get the puck his feet get tangled up and he hits the ice, it would be quite comical if it wasn't a player on my favorite team. His role on the team must be to fill the hole left by Boyd the Void or Jason Williams. As far as Chelios is concerned, I think he's starting to get into a groove after the long layoff to begin the season. He played almost 19 minutes, I believe, against the Preds and he's still capable on the PK. Is it a coincidence that our PK has gotten much better since he was inserted in the lineup?

The Biggest Problem with the Defense and Osgood

I'm sorry, but this argument is just plain absurd. Actually, it's the exact same argument that was made when Osgood split time with Vernon, when Osgood split time with Legace (Legace's numbers were better) and now when Osgood splits time with Conklin (Conklin's numbers are better). The argument that the team doesn't have as much confidence in the "back-up" goalie so they in turn play tighter defense is rediculous. That's really been the mentality of this team for the past 13 years? I don't think so. The reason why the defense looks confused when one goalie is in, and looks on top of things when the other is in, is because the one goalie doesn't have a clue how to control rebounds where the other does. Osgood has been notorious throughout his career at being very poor concerning rebounds. Last year during the playoffs he somehow pulled it together and played out of his mind, "absorbing" every shot. He even mentioned that himself, that he was so focused he just absorbed everything. Now, as before with his other goal parteners, his rebound control is non-existent and THAT is why the defense looks like its scrambling and the shots against totals have gone up. More rebounds equals more shots, equals more scrambling, equals more goals against. Watch games when Conklin is in, he generally gives up very few second chances. Is Conklin our answer for the playoffs? I'm concerned, I'll say that. Is our current version of Osgood going to get us out of the first round? Not a chance.

    Drapers line

I'm utterly shocked... I've just read through two pages of complaining about a certain aspect of the Wings and everyone is pretty much in agreement and no flame wars have errupted. This IS a changed world we are in, indeed. P.S. I agree, the 4th line is brutal. As someone said before, when your 4th line is left on the bench while one of your top 2 are playing against the opposing teams top lines, thats a problem. Even more glaring, when Draper and Maltby have made their careers out of being "Defensive Specialists" and their more often than not the 4th penalty kill unit off the bench (Behind Datsyuk/Franzen, Zetterberg/Cleary, Filppula/Hossa) that's terrible.

    RBK Heritage Sweaters

CCM/RBK has a liscensing agreement with Roger Edwards, but they're still seperate companies.

    RBK Heritage Sweaters

Those jerseys are not pinched in the middle. They are a traditional sweater-type fit and open at the bottom. The material is 100% Acrylic, but looks like a wool sweater. They run a little large in sizing. They were originally made under CCM's Vintage colection but have since been liscensed out to Roger Edwards. They have the RBK branding on it, but are not made by RBK but rather Roger Edwards. They are the same make as the original CCM versions. If you're looking for that style, I have a men's MD and men's LG in my store right now. Let me know if you're interested, I'm over in St Clair Shores, Mi

    Lidstrom using warrior equipment?

The Forsberg pattern is switching to the Zetterberg, probably for Easton's holiday stick launch. There will be no change in the actual pattern, just the cosmetic name change from Forsberg to Zetterberg. Lidstrom switched from Easton to Warrior for this reason; Easton has released a new helmet within the past year (you've probably noticed Cleary, Zetterberg, Hudler, etc. wearing it) , Lidstrom, being one of Easton's premier endorsements, was pressured into switching to the new helmet. Lidstrom wanted to continue to wear the CCM bucket that he's been wearing for 20 years. Easton kept implying its an "all or nothing deal," meaning you need to wear our skates, pants, gloves and helmet in order to continue getting the sticks you want (that's how these deals with Easton works, players want the sticks with their own pattern on it, Easton tells them, "we'll get you your sticks as long as you wear our other equipment"). So, Lidstrom said, "fine, I'll wear somebody else's stuff."
