While I understand not using the buyout on Toots, I feel bad for the guy languishing in the minors. It's not his fault he signed the contract Holland offered him. If he hadn't, though, he would probably be playing for an NHL club that could use his particular brand of hockey.

Is the Real Brendan Smith Finally Starting the Show Up?
Internet.Unknown replied to NYC Wings Fanatic's topic in General
He sured seemed to turn a corner in the latter half of the season. Let's hope he can continue to improve and not regress like Kindle after a good season last year. -
Is the Real Brendan Smith Finally Starting the Show Up?
Internet.Unknown replied to NYC Wings Fanatic's topic in General
Some caller into 97.1 said Smith should be playing 9 minutes a night at max. The host (Fithian?) agreed and said he couldn't believe that Smith was sometimes paired with Kronwall during the regular season. Did these people even watch the playoffs? -
This is why I believe the Wings will eventually trade either Gus or Tatar. The team has to get bigger up front. To do that, the Wings will probably have to trade someone of value. Mantha should help, yes, but from what I've heard, he's not a domininant physical force. He's a big kid that can score. There's a difference. The Wings need an Abdelkader who doesn't have hands of stone.

The Wings management cares. I also think that after 23 years, you don't give up on such an impressive streak when your team supposedly has good depth in the minors. If trading away one prospect ruins this team's future, the team is in a lot more trouble than any of us knows. This is a little wishy-washy. He "could ultimately rise" to Zetterberg's level, but probably not in the Nashville system. As for the comparisons, someone named Jarnkrok "Zetterberg 2.0" just last night on these boards. Not only will the young man with 12 NHL games become as good as Z, he will become a new and improved version! Look out Wayne Gretzky's records!
-
I think people are highly underestimating Zetterberg here. While Jarnkrok may turn into a good NHLer, it's wild speculation to claim he will ever have the passion, heart, and will to win of our current captain. Not to people who understand all of Z's intangibles.

Wasn't this anxiety speculation addressed mid-season? I seem to remember Franzen and others denying it.

The "speedy" Matthieu Danenault. Never liked him and after hearing him bash playoff beards as being something lame from the 80's, I liked him even less. Bernie Federko and Tony McKegney. Wasn't their fault the Wings traded Oates for them, but still ... Keith "Wet Butt" Primeau and his Mickey Mouse figurine collection.

Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive 20m Wings said Zetterberg on way to see doctor. Will be game-time decision. And from everyone's favorite: Helene St. James @HeleneStJames 13m Perception within Red Wings locker room is that Henrik Zetterberg is playing tonight. Not official. -
As others have said, you have to give up something to receive something. It's not that I don't like Gus and Tatar. I do. But perhaps one smallish young forward is enough when the team seems to have other needs.

This is probably knee-jerk, emotional on my part, but watching this series reminds me a bit of the '95 sweep loss to the Devils. The Wings have a bunch of Bob Errey types getting pushed around by bigger, stronger players. Could have something to do with Chara being taller than a wookie. Anyhoo, it seems the regular season in the East is the same as in the West: 82 games of exhibition hockey and skills competitions. Now that the playoffs are here, the "big bad East" is looking big and bad. With that said, I obviously think the Wings need to get bigger. That probably means, among other things, having to move Gus or Tatar for a guy with less slightly offensive potential but a bigger body.

But what we do have is SCOREBOARD. Go give Ben Affleck a massage, chowderhead. edit: spelling

Two minutes of an illiterate rambling. I'm dumber for having watched that. -
It's also dumb. Weiss didn't suck. He was injured. People need to start understanding the difference.

Just say no to a skills competition deciding hockey GAMES.

I want the Pens. Time for revenge for '09.

Are you claiming you aren't a Wings fan?

If this is true, how long until a majority of people are calling for Babcock's firing? Yikes.

Signed Glendening signed to 3 year extension
Internet.Unknown replied to Nyquistfan14's topic in General
Babcock has said that Glendening is as competitive as some of the game's greats (Yzerman, Crosby have been mentioned). There is more to this kid than his offensive stats. -
Didn't Avery and a male buddy claim to be married a couple of years ago? I thought he did come out.
-
Could be a 25 goal scorer THIS year.
-
I often wonder about this too. It seems the league has been trying to increase offense but the desired result hasn't materialized. In recent years, the 2-line pass has been eliminated. Goalie pads have decreased in size. The mid-90's clutch and grab has been reduced to almost NBA-style penalty calling. OT is now four-on-four. All this should lead to more scoring. It's not. Consider that Gretzky scored over 200 points in a season multiple times. Now the scoring leader could score about only half of that. Crazy! Nowhere else is the old adage about not comparing different eras more true than in the NHL.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
Internet.Unknown replied to gcom007's topic in General
Aha! So it's your fault he was traded. -
Weiss - who would take him next season and does he have a full NTC
Internet.Unknown replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
A lot of the complaining about Weiss comes from the same people who are still complaining about Jarnkrok. It's ironic. They want to wait years for prospects and are supposedly invested in the future of the team, but they won't wait for a proven vet to get healthy.
