12/22 GDT : New Jersey Devils at Red Wings, 7:30 EST

I'm okay with Richards. Like Green, he seems to be warming up. Helm, though, should be a permanent 4th liner. Why not switch Jurco with Helm on Dats' line? Let's see once and for all if the kid can play at the NHL level. Give him 10 games with the Magic Man.

    Mike Green

I think his production will improve just like his overall game has since coming back from the injury.

Green has been improving and looking more and more comfortable on the team. To claim otherwise is to be watching the box scores instead of the games.

Jurco on Conditioning Assignment in GRs

It's fun watching you and krsmith advocate for Jurco while espousing the exact opposite strategies. P.S. I'm rooting for Jurco to excel upon his return to the Wings.

Jurco on Conditioning Assignment in GRs

Give Jurco some ice time and top 9 (or 6) line mates and let's see what he can do. Time to s*** or get off the pot.

    Bigger nets ?

The NHL isn't going to make the rinks bigger. Do you understand the cost that would be associated with this and the subsequent loss of revenue? Not going to happen. Some equipment could stand to shrink. That would probably increase scoring. The ultimate solution? Time. Players will eventually figure out how to beat the butterfly goalies of today. Back in Roy's day, more goalies played a stand-up style. Give today's trend time and players will figure out how to beat it.

What are the chances Larkin wins the Calder ?

If McDavid returns in the 2nd half of the season and kicks ass, it'll be his trophy. The NHL elite love him like they loved Crosby.

Jurco on Conditioning Assignment in GRs

Larkin + 2 players that can't yet make it in the NHL would "light it up." You've got one hell of a crystal ball ...or you've been lighting it up too.

Jurco on Conditioning Assignment in GRs

Apparently Jurco can't succeed in the NHL if he isn't paired with the likes of Dats or Z. I'm just going by what I read here on LGW.

When does Larkin get the C?

Don't forget Abby. That cradle-to-grave contract indicates the team believes he is essential to the team's future success.

Jurco on Conditioning Assignment in GRs

Drew Miller attracts little ire because he isn't hyped as a scorer, isn't supposedly swelling with untapped potential, and isn't beloved by by apologetic puck bunnies. Nothing other than, well, his NHL body of work to date.

Jurco on Conditioning Assignment in GRs

By all means, ignore everything I said about wishing Jurco well and hoping he becomes dominant in the NHL for the Red Wings. Don't cherry pick me, bro!

When does Larkin get the C?

Captain? We're talkin' captain? In all seriousness, I'll already worried Larkin will bolt for the Leafs when he can become a UFA. Years away, I know. He just seems too good to be true!

Jurco on Conditioning Assignment in GRs

Why? Because I believe in results in actual NHL games and because I trust the Red Wings coaches (past and present). Larkin, a 19-year-old, was thrust into the lineup day one and proved he belonged. Jurco, OTOH, can't crack the lineup (yet). He's played a grinder role, which you mentioned, but he's also played with Dats and other top 6 linemates. In both situations he has (so far) failed to demonstrate he can significantly contribute at the NHL level. Like Smith, Jurco is praised by some for his potential. He sure as heck hasn't earned such devotion for his play in the NHL. But potential is as valuable as a million-dollar idea: without the proper implementation, it's worthless. That's Jurco (to date). All potential, no payout, and a lot of puck bunnies singing his praises. I hope the guy turns it around. I would love to see him become a bonafide power forward with sick hands. I'm a fan of the Wings before any one player. If a dude wearing a red sweater scores, I'm high-fiving the nearest fan. Go, Jurco! Prove your potential.
