Teams get hot in the playoffs, goalies stand on their heads, but teams that don't deserve to win the "hardest trophy to win in sports" don't win the Cup. LA was built for the playoffs, gelled just in time, and had good goaltending. That said, the Red Wings are going to sneak into the playoffs for as many years in a row as possible. People need to accept this, like it or not. There will always be a Legwand trade if management believes it will keep The Streak™ alive.

For those wondering, I suspect this is a huge reason why Smith gets bashed more than, say, Big E. A number of posters claim "Smith is good" despite evidence and the opinion of coaches (past and present). The truth of it is, Smith was good (in college and the AHL) but hasn't been consistently good in the NHL. To claim that he is "good" now is preposterous. The experts don't agree with you nor do facts and his body of work in the NHL. P.S. Substitute "Jurco" for "Smith" and the message remains the same.

Who's the Director of Amateur Scouting now? Look, I didn't say Holland sucks. I said there were numerous factors and people that have contributed to his success. He's not the "OMG Greatest GM EVA!!!" nor is he the turd some make him out to be. If people can argue that Babcock should have won more Cups in his time in Detroit, the same can be said for Holland. Thirteen other teams passed on Larkin too. Happens every year in the draft.

Thoughts? Yeah, the league isn't out to get the Wings.

How many times are you going to ignore the fact that Jurco and Mantha don't and should not play the same role as Miller? It's not that Miller is a HoFer; it's that he plays his role well, which is a shot blocker and defensive forward. Expecting Youtube Jurco or Mantha to play his role and develop is silly.

The Wings should pair Jurco and Smith together ... in Grand Rapids. They both suck and yet are beloved by some for their "potential." (Yes, I know one's a forward and one's a defenseman).
