    Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

Absolutely not.... I don't think of Fedorov, when I am looking up at the following players' jerseys: Yzerman, Sawchuk, Delvecchio, Lindsay, Abel, Howe.... and soon Lidstrom. He doesn't fit with that group of esteemed players. If he had stayed with the club and finished his career out with some sort of respect and dignity, then possibly then he would be considered, but he ended up leaving for money. As far as Dats and Z go.... they still have several years until they retire, so the jury is still out, but if they continue on the path they have already set, I would say there is a 60/40 chance.

Why is it Doan OR Semin? Why not both?

It's via twitter and solely based on the fact that there are "reports" that he has lucrative offers... Perhaps he'll end up liking the idea of ending his career in Detroit, a place that has never allowed him or his team to succeed in the playoffs the past few years. Sometimes, a guy may not go for the money in lieu of a more favorable situation. I believe Doan is the type of guy to do this... He did, afterall, just come off a 4.5 million contract, I'm sure he could have negotiated and received more money when that contract was signed without much of a problem. I'm not holding my breath, but just saying.... sometimes we put wayyyy too much stock into what the internet tells us.

    Bottom Six

It's tough because Eaves and Miller are both solid options in the bottom 6 as well.... I do like Eaves over Cleary, but both have serious injury concerns going into this season, with Cleary being the better of the two (more than likely). Bertuzzi WILL be on the third line... Sammy will be a 2nd/3rd line option, depending on Nyquist/Brunner.... I just hope those two work out, then we'll be fine and can try and make a trade happen during the season. I believe Brunner is going to impress here, despite negative reactions so far. Franzen - Datsyuk - Brunner Filppula - Zetterberg - Nyquist/Samuelsson Bertuzzi - Helm - Samuelsson/Nyquist Tootoo - Abdelkader - Eaves/Miller Solid squad, scoring potential from each line... If our youngsters show up, we'll be A-OK. Try to flip Franzen for Ryan, or someone else comparable. Also loving the right handed shots available now (Brunner, Samuelsson, Eaves, Tootoo).

    Bobby Ryan

I keep hearing that Anaheim loves Flip... is this true or not? If that's the case, I say you package a deal to them that includes Filppula, Tatar, and a 1st rounder....

Doan staying in PHX 4 yrs $21.2 mill

It has nothing to do with D town being less desirable of a location... I highly doubt the Euro-factor or the overall team age (which is lower than it has been in a while and actually younger than Pittsburgh). The fact of the matter is, there is much more parity in the league now, and you can't count any team out. This past Stanley Cup is evidence of that. An 8 and a 6 seed... enough said.

Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?

How many of these nonsense threads are people going to start until we get it through their thick skulls that the simple answer to these silly, panicky questions is NO!
  7. Let's just relax a bit.... your panic is way overblown. I am not cool with paying a 35-40 year old (other than Lidstrom) as much money as it would cost to send an offer sheet to Weber, it's simply not worth it. People act like Weber is the only great defensman out there, it's a s***ty mentality. Nashville would match any offer we put down, and it's not worth 4 first rounders.
  8. But the Wings wouldn't make this offer... having two long term contracts already on the books, it's not smart business. They did the smart thing and tried to trade for Weber.. then they'd solve the logjam up front and signed him on their terms. Well if Holland was looking to trade for Weber, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to think he'll turn his attention to the following potential trade options: 1. Yandle 2. Bouwmeester 3. Boyle 4. Murray Any others I missed?
  9. Three positives if he ends up in Philly.... 1. Nashville gets weaker overall 2. He goes to the Eastern Conference 3. Holland was in on trade conversations with Nashville - the naysayers who think he's sitting on his hands can stop whining. Careful man.. you're going to get DAS BOOT!

    Could trade rumors spark Franzen?

Cause Mules just wanna have fun...

Red Wings make "helluva" offer for Nash, no response

No, you're a pessimist for the sole fact that you assume a 28 year old has peaked and that automatically means he declines instead of at least maintaining his production for a few more seasons at least. Had you said the latter I would consider you a realist. Also, Franzen has all the tools to become more dominant, even at 32. It's up to him to compete, so we'll see.
  12. SwedeLundin77

Should Pav and Z play on the same line for the majority of this season

Orrrrr you get really crazy and give Flip an opportunity to grow even more by having him center the first line with Datsyuk and Z can center the second line... Franzen-Filppula-Datsyuk Nyquist-Zetterberg-Brunner/Samuelsson Z could be a great mentor to Nyquist and/or Brunner

    The Next Move

Last I read, Holland said he'd be good to go for camp...

Who is your player of significance? Semin and Doan are the only two big names left and it seems like Detroit is not the only team wary of Semin's questionable work ethic and moodiness, otherwise he would have been signed by now by someone. We are looking at Doan and his agent has said that he would be interested if the Phoenix situation is unresolved come July 16... What is he supposed to say? "We don't like our roster up-front." No, you don't say that as a GM. He added some pieces, replaced Hudler, and gave us some bottom 6 depth. We have too many forwards so there may be a trade upcoming for defense, but we'll see. He's not done yet and there is a long way to go before the season starts.

Seriously.... I even posted the quote. How is it that you are the ONLY one reading it that way then? Is it because you are being over-critical, possibly even negative about an off-season when it's only July 12 and there are zero quality UFA's to be had, aside from Semin and Doan (and they want Doan). There is no way to replace Lidstrom.... and losing him is how we got weaker. Our offense is stronger than last season, and deeper. We may not have acquired a sniper, but Brunner may turn out, I'm willing to wait and see before I write him off like so many doom and gloomers around here. Our defense is younger, much younger. Which I believe is a good thing, because they're hungry, and motivated and want to win. Only Kronwall has tasted the cup and he's their leader as of right now. Seems pretty good to me. I never said they're stronger than last season, but they are younger overall, and with so many negative people out there, maybe it's a good motivation to show fans that they can do well and compete. They will spend more cap on defensive needs, possibly a forward like Semin or Doan if they can come to an agreement, but to just burn our money by grabbing average players that don't add anything to the team is asinine. It's also asinine to assume we know what is really going on behind the curtain. You don't burn cap because the trade deadline could come in handy for the Wings this season, and trading for a big name player who makes more money means you had better have a little cap space, if the opportunity presents itself. Also saving that cap space could be fruitful come next off-season, when Perry, Getzlaf, Iginla, etc... could all be available.

You cannot say that anymore.... LA was an 8 seed last season and no one thought they'd make it anywhere... NJ was, what? a 6 seed? That was your Final this past season.... low seeded teams that no one would have ever predicted being there. We are a contender, plain and simple. Thank you sir, for your comments are sane and level-headed. It's nice to know that I am not alone.

    Smith Leads Charge

I believe that Kindl is better than people give him credit for, he just needs consistent playing time. I also believe that Smith will have a solid rookies season and compete for the Calder, given that he gets the appropriate ice time and powerplay time. The kid is over-ripe and ready to bust out. 7 points in his first 14 games with limited ice time. To say he can pot 41+ over 82 games is not out of the question.

Good God, that is not what he even said.... Stop twisting things to make it sound the way you want it to. He said they have guys that can fill in, so it's not like they are down to 4 defensemen. " Obviously, with the loss of (Brad) Stuart, the loss of (Nick) Lidstrom, we're not as deep as we've been in the past in defense. Two players that are going to replace him that weren't here (last year) are Brendan Smith and (Kyle) Quincey, so it's not like we've lost two guys and don't have any players." Please don't just make everything fit your doom and gloom attitude... Oh thank you for some sane voices on LGW.... I swear the level of doom and gloom is off the charts. People are acting like the Wings are now Calgary or something.... not even close! Yeah, risk bringing in a guy who has, by all accounts, a horrible attitude and questionable worth ethic. Risk that because it's not your money, so let's just go on a spending frenzy and grab all the average players we can. Holland is smart not to blow everything up by spending like a 16 year old girl the weekend before Prom. Get a grip people, the sky is not falling. The team, as is, will make the playoffs and will compete. Remember when everyone wrote Datsyuk off as a non-playoff contributor? How did that turn out?

How bad are we if our roster is now finalized?

You didn't answer the question. And Ian White is not another tire patch... ridiculous.

    Wolski signs with Washington

Really? This guy has bounced around to a few teams the past few seasons and hasn't done much... he's a big body who doesn't have much snarl at all and hasn't put up many points. We have 15 forwards right now, why would we add another? Especially one that hasn't proven he can play at a high level for a while now... If anyone is sailing the failboat, it is you my friend. Your post fails. Exactly, thank you! Stinkyness fails to see this and apparently thinks any little signing that passes KH by is a failure. Oh crap, Exelby signed with Boston... Kenny sucks!!!!

Sign Jurcina or Vandermeer and call it a day

Well Gragnani is off the market... Carolina just signed him to a 1 year 2 way.... Cam Barker it is!
  22. SwedeLundin77

    Semin

Yeah, that seems the case, but I would like to think that there are so many different angles to these deals that it's hard to really grasp onto what anyone is thinking without any inside information. I think Holland is still working the phones trying to find the right fit. It doesn't seem he's talking to Semin, but for all we know, his comment was a smoke screen. TIme will tell, but I'm also not holding my breath. I'm just looking forward to see what the younger guys can do this upcoming season. Should be interesting.
  23. SwedeLundin77

Sign Jurcina or Vandermeer and call it a day

Yeah that's a good point. Just looked at the kid and he seems to be a pretty solid d-man that just needs a chance. I would be willing to give him or Barker a shot, but we're more likely to go with a veteran at this point. Maybe we'll go for 2 and trade Kindl in a package for a forward or something... We'll see.

How bad are we if our roster is now finalized?

I agree that Kronner will have a career year as well Smith. I also feel that Quincey will have a much better year and look more like the Quincey of LA/Colorado point-wise. I'm thinking 30-40 pts for Quincey. He'll be playing on the 2nd power play unit, maybe even the 1st from time to time.
