Seriously, it's Day 1 of the UFA period and we're already bitching. I was ticked earlier at the inaction, but I honestly believe their is a trade plan going on behind closed doors. Or at the least we are exploring some of the UFA d-men available. Anything we do will be short term, as next off-season could be a better opportunity and it will give Holland more freedom to re-sign Kronwall and Stuart. Commodore is a solid 5/6 d-man, and that was a need, too. He WILL be better than Salei. I just refuse to accept that with 9.8 million, we're done and won't at least spend another 6.5-7 million. I think we'll be big players at the trade deadline, especially if we cannot move Huds. That dynamic might be changing slightly, look at Ericsson, that was not typical hometown discount at all. With the increased cap, things need to change. Wiz is more than likely a minority in his mentality about the Wings. s***, Bieksa already said the opposite before re-signing with Vancouver about taking a little less money to play with a contender/solid team.

I'm almost certain that they can just trade him if they like at this point. Hudler or even just picks for Nabby, minimum cap hit contract for one year. The guy wants to be here.

Wings sign D Mike Commodore to 1-year, $1m contract
SwedeLundin77 replied to Tim.D's topic in General
Yeah, that was a really good interview. It sounds like him and Babs worked their s*** out. It was 8 or 9 years ago, so anyone still bickering about that needs to tuck their string in. I initially met this move with horror, as my only real memory of Commodore was back in 2009 when he missed that hit and ended up in our bench. I was looking over his stats and his play in Carolina was stellar. It's the classic kind of signing by Holland and Co. They picked a guy with good potential, he's 31, and he's definitely a reclamation project. If he does well enough, he'll warrant an extension (low cap hit). I don't mind this player since I'm not delusional like some on this board and know full well that he's a 5/6 guy. He essentially replaces Salei, and I was not impressed with Salei. It'll be nice to have a guy who clears the crease out and plays physical. He's definitely a defense first type of guy. Maybe he can teach Ericsson and Kindl something about being physical. Again, for 1 year at a $1 million hit, this is not a terrible signing. People on these boards always want us to get physical players, yet when we do finally get one who really isn't all that bad (for the role we got him for), they ***** and moan. Get over it. You don't have to like the guy, but I guarantee after a few good hits, people will start to come around some. Welcome Commy, work hard and you'll reap the benefits of being on a World-Class Team. -
Wait and see folks.... I'd be surprised, absolutely dumb-founded if Holland isn't working out some sort of trade to improve the D.... We are still going to sign Conklin, Turco, Giguere, or someone other than Ozzie.
-
I don't know, I think Vandermeer would have been better than Commodore.... anyone have input?
-
Yay, Owen Nolan will be affordable so of course, Kenny will sign him. Haha. Please tell me he Kenny has some sort of plan. We have 10 million left!!! We need a top 4 d-man and a backup goalie. We could also afford a top 6 forward easily.

Wings sign D Mike Commodore to 1-year, $1m contract
SwedeLundin77 replied to Tim.D's topic in General
Quite honestly, what is his foot-speed like? Is he slower than Salei? I know he's a big physical guy, but is he a pylon or can he play competent defense? -
Hypothetically, what if Stamkos just did not want to play for TB.... what if for some reason he wasn't comfortable there and wanted to go somewhere else. Maybe Holland trades him to Detroit for something, who knows. Again, I'm just pipe-dreaming. I would s*** a brick.
-
Budai to Montreal... 2 years at 2.3 million total.
-
If you're going to wait in a slim UFA market, then you run the risk of losing out on the better players. Simple as that. As this team stands right now, we are not going past the 1st round.
-
No worries, we have the Pisto... s***!
-
Boucher reportedly signed in Carolina (1.9 million for 2 years)... Holland, you do realize we need a backup 'tender right? Osgood had better not be our backup so he can play 5 games and be on the IR half the season.
-
Lidsrom, Kronwall, Stuart.... I don't care if it's a 2 d-man, we need a top 4 d-man that can put up 40+ points and play steady defense. Let's not get too technical here, folks.
-
What? Yeah, Lidsrom, Kronwall, and Stuart (1,2,3) Ericsson would be the 5 spot. So 4-6... We need a top 4 d-man. Kronwall is our 2 guy. Stuart is our 3 guy.
-
They were talking about how Penn is pissing Pitt off by signing Jagr and Talbot... "maybe they should go out and sign Larry Murphy." Crickets....
-
To the Wings, I hope. Our defense is looking pretty shaky in the 4,5,6 spots... yuck.
-
Yes sir, he would be. But at this rate, Holland does not seem very interested in doing anything to improve this team. Ericsson, Eaves, and Miller WILL not cut it. There had better be a trade in the works. I would sign Cole to anywhere from 1 to 3 years at 3 million max. This is conditional on Hudler out, so essentially he takes over that salary.
-
Lidstrom's last season = Holland had better not be sitting on his hands doing nothing. There had better be some massive trade in the works to change up the dynamic and physicality of this team, otherwise we're outty 5000 in the first round (as it stands now).
-
So he dragged his feet and lost out on the Wings and Pens only to go to the Flyers who just traded away two marquee forwards for, essentially, an unproven playoff 'tender?!? Haha. I wouldn't have minded you here Jagr, but not if you were playing games or some bulls***.
-
Yay! It's time to get Rich...ards! I'm just joking. Time to get Erik Cole, though. Or maybe one of the several other affordable top 6 forwards. Bye bye Hudler, hello effective player.

Wings re-sign Miller to 2-year, $1.65m contract
SwedeLundin77 replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
The key here is Mursak. Mursak needs to be higher in the depth chart than Miller, plan and simple. If he's not, than I'm pissed. This kid is Helm with hands... seriously, do I need to say more?!? -
Wings re-sign Miller to 2-year, $1.65m contract
SwedeLundin77 replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
Too many bodies that do the same thing. Eaves, Miller, Mursak, Helm, Abdelkader, Filppula... These guys all play a strong defensive game, but their offense is limited and Abs is really the only physical one of the bunch. We need to make some moves to shake things up. Holland said they are planning on changing things up, but so far it seems like a lot of the same... Not a good formula for winning, seeing as the "same" got knocked out of the playoffs by the same team the past two seasons. -
Wings re-sign Miller to 2-year, $1.65m contract
SwedeLundin77 replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
I don't like this. Unless we are trading Hudler, this seriously puts a dent in us attempting to get a top 6 guy. Miller is a good player, but he is extremely replaceable and I would rather Mursak or Emmerton take over that role. He had better not be a permanent fixture in the lineup, unless we shake up some other players and make some moves. -
Wings re-sign Eaves to 3-year, $3.6m contract
SwedeLundin77 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Don't be stupid. Ericsson's signing was a bad signing, this is phenominal. Eaves can play on any line, and given the opportunity, can score 20+ goals easy. He's still young, too. -
You mean we could possibly recoup the wasted money we gave to Ericsson? Yes, please! Then use that money to get us a gritty scoring forward with size and a right handed shot, please! Or Wizniewski.
