    The Weather Channel announces...

Yeah, McGuire actually said it twice too, he reiterated it later on calling it a "wind aided Datsyuk breakaway goal". I mean come on, I've played pond hockey, you're going to tell me that the wind pushed Datsyuk between those defenders and that's how he got the breakaway?!?!? s***, give me a break. How about you give the Wings come credit and tell it like it is. Datsyuk worked his ass off and used his God given ability and skill to split the two d-men, walked in and scored! Plain and simple. Could the NBC commentators pull out Kane's prick long enough to really make a coherent comment on the actual game? No, didn't think so. My other favorite comment in this game was from Eddie O. when Lilja had the retarded penalty for giving a guy a push after being BOARDED!!! How in the hell does the clear-cut boarding call get pushed aside for a love tap to the upper body? Oh and then Eddie O. has the audacity to say that "Lilja needs to put some more substance into his positioning next time so that he doesn't get hit that way". Really, don't mention a damn thing about the no call, but have the nerve to say that Lilja is doing his job wrong because he turned into the boards to try and defend the puck behind the net. We won, and I don't want all this to take away from that, but Jeeesus! Give us some un-biased broadcasting, and explain the game and talk about the actual game more often during a national broadcasting. If I was a new fan to the sport watching my first game, i'd be confused as hell as to why certain penalties aren't being called, and why others are.... At least explain these things and give both sides a fair shake. I also love how every commerical for the NHL has either the Penguins or Crosby in it... Last time I checked, we won the cup last year right? We beat that very team, that very player pretty bad last May/June. Would it really be all that bad of an idea to maybe market guys like Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Lidstrom... They deserve to be given the limelight for the good of the game.

Red Wings' Osgood out with groin injury

You're being ignorant.... zero professional experience? Last time I checked AHL is professional hockey. He has good stats with Grand Rapids thus far, better than Howard, so LOGIC would dictate that if you need to bring someone up, you bring up who is playing better, it's all temporary anyway. By your method, players would not develop because you wouldn't challenge them and give them opportunity, otherwise what is the point? You would rather leave Larsson down in the minors for several years instead of the possibility that maybe he has something beneficial to his game that goes beyond experience? Ever look around the league and see how many inexperienced goaltenders on weaker teams are having breakout years? Didn't think so. I'm really unbiased about who we bring up, because I think both Howard and Larsson are qualified, but once again, LOGIC dictates you bring up the hotter hand.

    Kronwall and Stuart

Well there's just an overall weakness in our defensive game right now, it should all get worked out since we've seen games or at least parts of certain games where we are on the ball - so we're capable of it, no doubt. We just need to get back to basics and work from there I believe.

    11/13 GDT: Red Wings 4, Lightning 3

Yeah, I totally agree, it was on the line, he came in and kicked it with the back of his skate. The fact that they called it the original shooters goal just goes to show you that it was complete bs... Oh well, we won! I just liked a 4-2 score better, actually displays the type of game we played.

    Official Optimistic Thread!

Oh, and honestly, Kopecky does nothing for me. He is pretty much a wasted spot in our lineup, i'd rather have a Leino - Filppula - Hudler line. Then Downey - Draper - Maltby Seriously, how can you turn those lines down!

    Official Optimistic Thread!

Seriously, those who are actually giving up, are mentally incapable of having logical thoughts and reactions in a reality based world. Sure, the Wings have not looked like themselves so far this season, with some exceptions here and there. It is not reason to fret, this is typical once a team comes off of a Stanley Cup run and Win, it's not an excuse, but it's not totally unthinkable either. This is the kind of loss I believe we have needed to have, cause up until now, we have been playing poorly but still winning or gaining at least a point out of it. This loss should leave a real sour taste in the mouth of the entire team, giving some more fuel to the fact that they are playing uncharacteristically bad in their own zone and on the PK. Hell, even Lidstrom has looked out of place at times, especially tonight he made quite a few mistakes which you NEVER see happen as frequently as they have. This should hopefully be a good thing after tonight's loss. I hope to see a rejuvenated and determined team hit the ice on Saturday, ready to battle and play a full 60 minutes of THEIR game. I believe that this play of late is purely just a "funk" and with a little more time (not much) we'll be back on track and racking up points in solid style. So a negative situation has a positive outlook! May I suggest though, that we send McCarty back down to Grand Rapids, bring up Downey, and somehow make room for Leino until Franzen returns... I'd also like to call for Lilja to be dealt and the third pairing be Meech and Chelios with Lebda alternating.

10/29 GDT: Ducks 5, Red Wings 4 (OT)

Well that's what happens when you play 30 out of 60 minutes against the Goon Squad. Honestly, it's a miracle we didn't get completed embarrassed with the way the Ducks play dirty (and get away with it), the ref's blind eye to it all (and typical bad calls anyway), and the fact that our defensive effort on the PK is lacking BIG TIME! I hope this loss is some true true motivation to get their asses into gear! I seriously think we just need to get flat out embarrassed to wake our guys up defensively.... it's sad so far, but it's still early (only 10 games into the season and we're 7-1-2... not all that bad really. We're lucky though.

    Lilja back and McCarty debuts

Yeah, but if you have been paying close attention this year, thus far... Maltby has been more physical and antagonistic than he has beeen in the past few years. We need that on our 4th line, Maltby provides it. McCarty will be in for Kopecky.... They won't bench Hudler, if you remember, he had a pretty damn good pass to Zetterberg for his first goal last night.

    Bad trend

Well right now it all boils down to defensive lapses. For example, and I hope I'm not the only one who has noticed this, but whenever you see another team scorea goal on us, it's typically been a nice pass from behind the net. We aren't pinning those guys to the boards back there and subsequently they are getting time to make those passes out. At any rate, I trust that we'll have this all under control soon enough!

    Something I've noticed..

If you watch every game like I do, you'll notice a pattern in these first 6 games... It's called lack of defensive coverage and defensive lapses kiddies. We have not been anywhere near our potential on defense this year so far. It's early though, so I'm not all that concerned, we'll get it together. But my above listed reason, is the reason why we have won by 1 goal and have given up leads and such.

    10/13 GDT: Red Wings 3, Hurricanes 1

Maybe I missed it, but what happened to AFLAC.... he/she had such great GDT's.... Doesn't anyone else have the fancy software able to make such wonderful GDT's???? ANYONE???

10/9 GDT: Maple Leafs 3, Red Wings 2

The problem with todays game was that it was the first game of the season for us... Sure, same team as last year pretty much - but we have different lines, so different chemistry must be developed. Also think about Toronto... they're team is full of speedy young guys and hacks for the most part. This means that they had the entire pre-season to develop their lines since the team they started at the beginning is pretty much the team you saw tonight. We, on the other hand, had some injuries to deal with so some of our key guys didn't get as much time as they probably would have liked. A summer will develop rust for any player/team. We got the first game out of the way.... Onward and Upward!
  17. SwedeLundin77

    Take your pick?

Yeah, and everything I wrote was at some point, over the summer, said by someone in the Wings organization... I read it. Sure it is my opinion as well, but the guy has that kind of talent. They won't let him waste away on the 4th line. It's either 2nd or 3rd line, Grand Rapids, or back to Finland. It's not delusional, I'm no expert at putting out an NHL roster, but neither are you.
  18. SwedeLundin77

    Take your pick?

If Leino makes this team, mark my words, it will not be for a 4th line spot. Sure he'll get the last spot on the roster, technically, but he is also looking to outstage the likes of Hudler, Cleary, Filppula..... If Leino plays anywhere, should he make the roster, it'll be with Zetterberg and Franzen on the second line - cause he's supposed to be THAT good. Thus making the third line Hudler - Filppula - Cleary and the fourth line Maltby, Draper, Kopecky/Downey/Dmac. I have a sneaking feeling that Sammy may be a name on the outs to make cap room. He does seems slightly expendable to make room for younger guys such as Kopecky and Helm. Just my opinion on it all. Or now that I think about it, Hudler may stay on the second line, but Leino will play with Filppula and Cleary. That could be quite the dynamic third line if Leino turns out to be all that and a bag of potato chips.

Bowman named Senior Advisor to Blackhawks

To be perfectly honest, I can understand him wanting to go work with his son, he doesn't have to move far either. At the same time, though, what the hell! The guy has said AAAALLLLL summer that he is happy where he is and that he doesn't want to go anywhere else and yada yada yada. Don't say that s*** so much when rumors come up about you going somewhere else, especially when you are more than likely planning on moving on. It's sad that he is going to go, I wish him luck, but I am pretty irked about this news.

    Hossa's First Goal

I heard he came here because he felt that we gave him the best chance to score his 300th career goal the quickest and easiest! No, but seriously, this is a pretty cool fact that many had not thought about, and it'll be cool when he scores it! Hopefully he can hit 400 in a winged wheel, meaning we somehow can re-sign him after the season along with Zetterberg and Franzen. Or, maybe he'll score 101 goals this season! Haha.

    Emery a victim of Racism?

Bulls***... That's really all I can say in response to the idea of racism playing any part in what happened with Emery. The guy admitted himself that he was a mess, so there you have it!

Who Wears the "C" after Lidstrom

Zetterberg, hands down. There is no argument here since he has been groomed for the position since first arriving here. There is a reason they put your locker next to Yzerman and then Lidstrom.

    Why Pens fans hate Hossa

It's pretty well known, like previous posters have said already, that Hossa wanted to come to Detroit at the deadline and Detroit wanted to get him, but they weren't willing to pay the excessive price-tag for a potential RENTAL player. Hossa did not choose to go to the Penguins, he had to go there by way of trade. He is not obligated to stay anywhere, of course he probably had a good time going for the cup, but unlike other Pen fans and the organization over there, he obviously attributes losing to the fact that the Red Wings were the better overall team and decided that he wanted to be a part of an organization that takes care of their players first and has a storied franchise filled with success. He recognized that Detroit from the top down, is determined and loyal, in winning and providing a top class organization. Pens really need to get over it, it sucked to lose a superstar, but just be happy that you have three still. Your GM should have been more intelligent in his contract negotiations and timing. Seriously look at how many UFA/RFA's you had eligible in one season, that is rediculous and shows a lack of looking a head and planning ahead. Just look at the contracts for the Wings and compare. We took care of Cleary during the season, and Stuart was a rental who we already shored up. Other than that and Filppula, our only FA's are prospects. Next year we have three prominent UFA's in Zetterberg, Franzen, and Hudler. You can bet your ass that one if not two of those guys will have extensions by the time playoffs hit next season. Tell your GM to plan ahead and you wouldn't have had this mess in the first place. Recognize it just like Hossa did. Burning a Hossa shirt just shows how classless some of your fans are. There is understanding here, but ZERO sympathy.
