Bertuzzi ethics... help settle an argument

Bertuzzi did a very low thing, 3 years ago. He did not intend to put someone out of hockey, to say he did, well that's just silly. Should he have stopped playing hockey? Absolutely not, because that would not solve anything. Someone makes a mistake so it should ruin two people's lives instead of one? And let's set some things straight, while Moore may not be able to play hockey gain professionally, he is no longer facing any long-term injury woes. He can work out - as he has been doing, and can do a lot of other things. The guy is not paralyzed, he can live a normal life. Not to mention he'll be getting 20 million from Bertuzzi or some amount of cash. Bertuzzi did the time the NHL set out for him to do. Bertuzzi abided by the courts decisions and accepted responsibility for his actions. He apaologized on several different occasions - does that make it right? No, but it makes a lot more sense for the guy to continue to play hockey since he still can. And like another poster wrote, with a 20 million lawsuit, he'll need to play hockey in order to meet Moore's suits and such. I'm not saying the guy should get a free ride from now on, but what has happened has happened, people make mistakes - things can't always be an eye for an eye. Moore may hate Bertuzzi, but I'm sure that he doesn't wish Bertuzzi couldn't play hockey again, assuming Moore is a decent individual who realizes that we live in a world where mistakes happen and that Bertuzzi was not and did not intend to break someones neck. This issues is damn well annoying, it shouldn't have it's own thread because the media discusses it enough already. It's fine to talk about it, but keep it in the Bertuzzi signed with Detroit thread. Sheesh.

    Robert Lang

You can't say that with full confidence. Yes we may re-sign Bert, and we may re-sign Calder. I highly doubt it, but there is a chance the Schneider and Markov could be gone. Remember, this is the offseason that Holland has said he was waiting for because there will be some good talent available. We will re-sign Datsyuk for sure, but other than him, nothing else is set in stone, so while we have Hudler and Filppula taking on larger roles (and I'm not sold yet on whether Hudler will be here still next season) we still have the opportunity to add a goal-scorer if Lang is outta here. Datsyuk should get about 1 to 1.5 million more (hopefully nothing more than that) and Schnedier will make the same at most if he is re-signed, same with Markov. That still leaves us cap room. We will have room to add a goal-scorer.

Bertuzzi ethics... help settle an argument

So let me get this straight.... Bertuzzi was apparently a cancer to his team after the incident and let his team down by not being a leader anymore right? That is what you said, so why would a former Vancouver GM in Brian Burke, want a guy back on a different squad if he was such a poor athlete? Your logic is flawed. I'd also like to point out that you have succeeded in avoiding my reply to you except for the little "grow up" remark that makes no sense at all. Maybe you don't hate Holland, but you certainly dislike him and it has already shown through this past offseason when you complained because Holland wasn't making any moves that you approved of. No one pretends to be an excellent GM as much as you do, it's time to stop and actually judge moves after they have been able to develop, instead of pre-judging everything this team does.

Bertuzzi ethics... help settle an argument

You hate Holland, so I'm not suprised at your lack of any positive outlooks on trades he makes. You're biased, you can admit it, don't worry, no one outside of LGW will know. Oh, and your bias also shines through telling us that we make Bert into a God, haha, right. I think having Bertuzzi is a good thing, and I believe others think so too because he brings an aspect to this team that we have lost when Shanny left (is that Holland's fault too?) Heck, if Bertuzzi can play 3/4 of what he did a couple of years ago, he'll bring more to the table than any Guerin or Tkachuk could. Sometimes all people need is a second chance - he had to feel pretty bad after coming back from the Moore incident and probably needed a change of scenery. I don't know much about the Vancouver incidents you speak of, but I would like to hear your sources on them, because you probably just listen to the news and take everything word for word as if they are inside the mind of the athlete. I'm not saying I know who and what Todd Bertuzzi is all about, but I am at least willing to give the guy a chance to prove himself before passing judgement in the present. He seems very excited to be a part of this team, it's a different group of guys than in Vancouver. There is no one around here that would tolerate selfish behavior and I'd be willing to bet that Chelios would be his opposite if any crap comes up, setting him straight. There is a great balance in the Wings locker room, one that has proven year after year that selfishness does not work in Detroit. We gave up little to get a player that we needed, if for some reason he does not meet expectations in Detroit, we'll lose a late round pick and he won't be back next season. If you look at the other players that we were possibly going to get: Forsberg looks invisible on Nashville, Tkachuk looks invisible on Atlanta, Guerin looks quite invisible on San Jose, even with Marleau out and him getting more time.

    Robert Lang

Ughh Nickelback is horrible, they can't even make original music anymore, it just melts into the rest of the popular rock genre. Anyway, Lang wasn't much different last season and look what he did in the playoffs. I am willing to see what he can do, but I would agree that he is gone after this season, we could take his 3.8 million and get a potent goal-scorer.

3/2 GDT: Blackhawks @ Red Wings

There are some pretty hilarious ladies in that crowd... I hope I don't look like that when hits happen! I wish I could see the lady in the top middle, you can just tell that her face was most likely classic freaked out - you can see her hands up by her face and the boittom half of her mouth... haha. But face of the night goes to the lady on the right with her mouth agape.... Come to games much ladies?

    Holland "eyeing" four players

Make that one physical forward and one gritty forward Lou_Siffer and eva.
  9. SwedeLundin77

    Calder fitting right in

If his play continues to be as strong as it has been thus far, and he does decent in the playoffs, there is no doubt that he will be re-signed. The guy for a full season on the Wings could be a 25 goal scorer, easily.

OFFICIAL: Todd Bertuzzi a Red Wing

Getting Guerin or Tkachuk would NOT guarantee us a longer playoff run.... hate to tell you. Nothing guarantees that, no trade or acquisition. Bottom line is, is that I am willing to give Bertuzzi a chance to prove himself here. I may not know how well he'll play because he is still out, but I believe he will help this team out. That belief is what a lot of Red Wings faithful have right now for Bertuzzi. It's the same thing as when I believe that we'll win a cup every year, regardless of the team. The keyword, obviously is: Believe.

Yep, the most knowledgeable hockey analyst brings us his views, and just like I thought, nothing but negativity spews forth. Get a clue, anyone can turn it around, it's always different with different teams - Bertuzzi could fit much better into our style of play than he had with Vancouver's. But hey, you're entitled to your negative biases against anyone but who YOU want on this team. You can keep playing GM all you like, but one day all this crap you say is going to come back and slap you in the face, because you aren't anywhere near as knowledgeable as Ken Holland when it comes to hockey - but hey, keep day-dreaming guy. Oh and let's not forget that Bertuzzi has Yzerman's stall.... I would be willing to bet that Stevie was either asked or told Babcock to let Bert have his stall - because Stevie, Scotty Bowman, Jim Nill, etc.. all most likely had input into us getting Bertuzzi. I'd be willing to bet with all that knowledge and hockey smarts, that they were all seeing something in Bertuzzi that could help out this team. Enough said.

Bertuzzi impresses Babcock in first practice

Perfect... It's amazing how much more at ease I feel when we have a guy like Bertuzzi on the team! GO WINGS!!!!

Why do Blues fans hate the Redwings so much?

Matt, I vote that anyone on our site, be it Wings fan or not, should be banned for trying to insinuate that Steve Yzerman is a dirty player and has purposely hurt other players. Don Corleone should be banned for sure - on principle alone.

Oh boy, watch out, here comes Captain Naysayer.... You are by far the biggest cry-baby I know. I've had to deal with you in the offseason when you insisted that the Wings would suck this season, and yet, here we are, 40 wins, 3rd best record in the league. We get a premiere power forward and a grittier player (who can net 20 goals) for conditional picks, a junior prospect and J Williams.... And you are asking for Anson Carter??? A 40 year old Gary Roberts??? Oh and just so you know, Ryan Smyth was not available to trade to any other team than the Isles because it was never made known to any other GM. Some people just ***** and ***** and *****... Bertuzzi will make us a better team and help complete our second line so we have two scoring lines. It would take a phenominal flop for this not to happen, again, phenominal.

Why do Blues fans hate the Redwings so much?

Matt, how is this cprice character NOT trolling on our site? Maybe I am just not up to date on what trolling really is...
  17. SwedeLundin77

Zetterberg out 2-3 weeks (inflamed disc)

While Zata is out, put Lang on the first line between Holmstrom and Datsyuk.... Maybe that'll get him going??? Then have Calder - Filppula - Franzen Maltby - Draper - Hudler Hussey - Ellis - Langfeld
  18. That is just a gamble you take in any trade you make. If Bert was healthy, than the return would have been great for Florida, but he wasn't so they did all that they could, so now we wait and see what hand we have been dealt. I would be willing to bet that we will turn up a Royal Flush with Big Bert and hopefully he'll stay in Detroit for longer than just this season.

Why do Blues fans hate the Redwings so much?

It's rather funny that just because we talk like we're completely awesome, that that automatically means we know nothing about the past history of the Wings.... Another point to make about Wings fans not knowing the past.... If there are fans on this board that don't know much about the past but more about the past 15 years, well maybe they weren't born until the late 80's/early 90's so they have grown up with the spectacular Wings of hte past 15 or so years. I can't say I am one of them, but I would be willing to guess that they are on here and are still learning about the storied franchise that is the Detroit Red Wings. Get over it Blues, hate on us all you want, but you're not getting yourself anywhere by trying to make us feel poorly because we love our team.

Why do Blues fans hate the Redwings so much?

I never even knew that the Blues fans hated us THAT badly... After reading through that thread on their message board, the only reaction I can have is that those posters are some of the most ignorant people I've ever seen... Seriously, what have the we done that is sooo terrible that they have to sit there and talk s*** constantly. And geeze, they say they're not bitter, but the instant they keep on bring up the Moore incident and how Bertuzzi is a thug is the moment they reveal themselves as a bitter group of fans. One VERY important quote for Blues fans on that board and forum: "I'd like to be cowboys from Arizona or pimps from Oakland but it's not Halloween. Grow up; Peter Pan, Count Chocula." - Wedding Crashers
  21. SwedeLundin77

    Jiri Hudler

If they can't fit him into the line up come next season, they'll trade him this offseason... It's really a simple answer.
  22. Ahh a Conditional Grade to go along with the Conditional Pick.... I like it, I like it. I give Holland an A- I never doubted him, even while all the naysayers around here keep on bitching relentlessly like it's going to get them somewhere. I knew and still know that Holland is a good GM. People don't understand what goes into his position and htat's not NHL 2K7 trading and signing. I have faith in this organization and it has never changed. LET'S GO WINGS!!!! I'm excited to see Calder play tonight too!
  23. SwedeLundin77

    Line ideas, anyone?

How about powerplay lines? Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Bertuzzi Calder - Lang - Samuelsson
  24. SwedeLundin77

    Ekland still at it.

Wait and see... on Lapointe that is

Keenan said he talked to Bert and so did another TSN analyst and they both said that Bertuzzi told them that he is ready to play, he wants to play! Good news.
