Holland: Wings won't deal unless prices come down
SwedeLundin77 replied to Mighty Wings's topic in General
Let the bitching begin... Honestly though, Holland speaks about the matter intelligently and it would be rediculous to sacrifice our future for a rental player who more than likely won't stay here. I still believe Holland will get someone before Wednesday's deadline, but you can't blame him for saying what he's saying - prices are out of control for these players. At least he's being upfront about the issue and letting the media and fans know that a deal may or may not be coming, instead of saying he'll get someone. The prices need to come down though. I just read that Phoenix is asking for a 1st round pick and a prospect for Laraque.... BULLs***. What are these GM's thinking? -
Jason Williams has to be one of the worst players in the NHL.

I wouldn't mind seeing Williams outta here by the deadline, but something tells me he'll stay. Same goes for Lang, but again, I am sure he will stay at least until the end of the season. I can't see us re-signing him. -
Crymson can shut those cry-baby bastards up with the best of them! Cheers to Crymson! :beerbuddy:

If we want any hope of playoff success, then Lang's line had better get going here, and soon. Lang has been a bum, I don't care how well he has done in the playoffs, he looks lazy and uninspired out there and it's really pissing me off. I really hope Kenny gets someone in here with some motivation to play on our second line... Trade Lang not Williams. Lang for a 1st rounder will suffice. -
Sammy has something like 24 pts in 35 games this season, that's not half bad. If we had to put anyone on waivers which we wouldn't do, we'd just trade them, but if we did it would be Williams.

Yeah, he probably just doesn't like Tkachuk for one, so his only choice is to rip them apart. He is more than likely one of these "let's bring up over a year ago incident - Tkachunky" type guys... When in all realism, Tkachuk is our best bet in terms of what we need - a scoring winger/power forward with size and tenacity. Guerin doesn't address this need as well, but he is bigger and can score so of course he'll be considered.

1270 Sports: Babcock says "players will be dealt"
SwedeLundin77 replied to The Enforcer's topic in General
Mac doesn't make much, but I believe it has to be somewhere around .5 million, so having said that, the move makes sense on both levels, and it COULD be related. For one, why send Mac down now, Dom and Ozzie are healthy yes, but in order to get Mac back, he'd have to clear waivers again, right? So could we be clearing his half million salary off of the cap in order to make room for a move or two? It's very likely I would think. Cause if Holland wants to add two players, you gotta think he'd be looking at Guerin, Tkachuk, and as a secondary player now - Laraque - who I hope we can get cause he would be an excellent addition to our fourth line and be the goon type of guy we are looking for. We could get him for a mid round pick I would think as well. Oh and it creates an open roster spot to add the new player... PLEASE TKACHUK or GUERIN!!!!! -
It all depends on their asking price... but if Carter can go for a 5th rounder, I see no reason why we can't get Laraque for a mid-round draft pick of some sort. I think he could be a good fit and add some protection.

Zubrus would be an AMAZING pick-up.

I've been to 5 or so games a year each year, and unfortunately this is a sad but true fact. Every time the Wings score a goal, I jump out of my seat, but I look around and at least half the place is still sitting, some nights even more than half. I don't know why this is really, because it's not like the goals aren't exciting. I honestly think that if Ilitch builds a new arena, it will draw bigger crowds (not sell-outs, but actual butts in the seats), which will only make the atmosphere better. People around here have gotten use to the Wing's winning ways, so maybe that plays into it too. If more games were back and forth scoring battles, I feel the excitement would increase, but unfortunately we live in a city where they ice a very strong hockey team, and it shows in the standings each year. THe last time I was at playoff game was back in 2002 against Colorado, and I remember the energy then was wild. So I am hoping at the very least, that the Joe get's hoppin' when the playoffs roll around.

These boards will never run out of wine... I know, bad joke, but very true.

Guerin was cheap, but it remained to be seen if he could put up more than 13 goals. After all, if a guy of his caliber couldn't put up more than that on a team like Dallas, how would anyone have thought he could put up 30 for St Louis???? This was a smart non-move on Holland's part in the off-season, sure it looks different now, but no one saw that coming. I honestly don't think Guerin would be as good with us, i'm wary because he wasn't good with Dallas, this season could just be a fluke. I'd rather take Tkachuk at this point. Besides this season, Tkachuk is typically on a point-per-game average.
-
The line, "it remains to be seen" doesn't mean that no trades are coming, it just means that Holland isn't sure that he is willing to mess with the future of the organization for a rental player. That also doesn't mane he won't make a move like that either, it remains to be seen. I am confident that Holland will get someone here, whether it's Tkachuk, Guerin, or someone like Mayers, I am sure he will make a move.
-
Yep, the typical, "let's freak out over a tactical quote" thread... I saw this one coming from a mile away. Holland isn't going to be jumping for joy to the media if trade talks are going well, he won't say anything positive until he has a deal done. That's the way a GM works for the most part, so be patient, things will happen.

Esposito on the XM: Wings looking at Tkachuk
SwedeLundin77 replied to The Enforcer's topic in General
It's funny how certain people who dislike a person or idea, formulate their opinions in a disrespectful - over the top way - trying to be as negative as they can to prove their point without showing any factual evidence to back up their accusations. As I said before, said people, bring up old issues from over a year ago. Google the whole Tkachuk overweight issue.... I did and I found an article where it had pretty much most of the Blues players sticking up for Tkachuk and saying that he may have weighed more, but that they believe he was stronger than he was before and that the organization was way too hard on him and should have let him play. That sure sounds like the media took the whole situation and blew it out of proportion, as well as the Blues organization. I'd take Tkachuk in a heartbeat, he is what this team needs. -

I would be so stoked if the Wings could work out a deal to trade for Tkachuk AND Mayers... I think this would be perfect for our team and help us out a great deal. Mayers would play great with Franzen, Maltby, Draper, Samuelsson... This would be the trade I would hope could happen soon. I like Guerin too, but I think Tkachuk is more of what we are looking for, he has more of an edge than Guerin, in my opinion. Guerin may score more goals, but I think Tkachuk could be a 30 goal scorer consistently playing a puck possession style and being on the powerplay with guys like Zata and Datsyuk feeding him the puck... -

I find it really funny that when people dislike a player and can't think of a plausible reason why, they go right to an incdient that happened over a year ago and blow it out of proportion. I actually think I remember them saying that Tkachuk came into camp this season and was under the weight he was at before the lockout, or at least in better shape. The reason why we would look at Tkachuk, is because he would more than likely cost us less on the trade and would do the things we need right now. He is feisty, gritty, and can score. He is one of the best American born forwards to play the game. That's a good enough reason for us to take him as at least a rental, and if he performs, I would like to resign him. He is 34 years old, Guerin is 36 or 37. At this point, Bertuzzi is the youngest guy we could get that can do what we need for this team, but obviously with his injury we are skeptical and looking at St Louis more seriously as an option. It is also important to note that Tkachuk would most likely play on our second line with Lang and Cleary.... Cleary has all the speed to chase the puck down low, getting the passes out to Tkachuk or Langer. -

Tkachuk is younger than Guerin btw, sometimes a change of scenery can do amazing things for your confidence and drive. -
The question is not, am I willing to give up picks and Hudler for free... The question is, am I willing to give up picks and Hudler for a healthy Bertuzzi which the answer to is yes. Does the trade come with risk - yes. Do we have an opportunity with Florida's permission to have our team doctor's give Bertuzzi a rigorous workout and examination just like we did for Hasek, Belfour, etc...? Yes. So if they clear Bertuzzi to play, I'd say he's worth it for a guy who more than likely won't be an impact player in the playoffs or in our future because he is easy to shut down by other team's top defenses. Again, we do NOT need an undersized soft euro to add to our already soft team. Does anyone remember why we got shut down so easily in the playoffs last season? Because we weren't tough enough, because Edmonton's bigger tougher guys could suffocate our smaller scoring threats and keep us contained. If we want to make a serious run this season, we need to have some risk. Any trade we make is going to have risk. Guerin may revert back to his Dallas days wit a differnt club because chemistry changes, Tkachuk may take stupid ass penalties and never be a scoring threat in the playoffs, and so on. I am still willing to give these guys a chance because we need the bigger, tougher, grittier goal scorers and these are pretty much our top options right now. Any way we go will come with risk.

The draft this year isn't going to be that great anyway, giving up a 1st is not going to have that big of an effect on us since we tend to find the gem's in later rounds ayway. Hudler may last longer than Bertuzzi, yes. But Hudler may also not pan out into what you think he will. And when that happens he'll have ZERO trade value. We already have Datsyuk on this team and he is great - assuming he can turn it up in the playoffs finally. We DON'T need Hudler when we already have Filppula, Grigorenko coming over next season, and more... We need size, this is our chance - one of our chances that is (Tkachuk and Guerin) being the others.

Sucker-punching Moore was not accidental, but Moore breaking his neck when falling to the ice was accidental since it was more than likely momentum from the fall plus 2 guys falling on him in Bertuzzi and the Colorado player that actually broke the neck. Momentum is the accidental part.
-
Bertuzzi, for the last time, did not ride Moore's head into the ice as you are describing it. Also, I am pretty certain that Bertuzzi did not want to, persay, injure Moore as much as send a message by fighting him. Bertuzzi was undoubtedly a hothead so when Moore refused to fight him, he overreacted. To say that Bertuzzi was aiming to injure Moore seriously is asanine and completely without any factual proof. It is a rare case, but Bertuzzi did not intend to hurt, nonetheless, break Moore's neck. This is old news anyway, I'm not really sure why it has to be brought up again and again. If Bertuzzi is healthy and can play strong and score for us, I am all for getting him in here, dirty past and all, everyone deserves a second chance.

If the family decides to press charges against said person, yes. But the Snyder family decided that it was something that didn't warrant Heatley having to pay other than emotionally. That doesn't answer why this plays into Bert playing for the Wings.
-
No one is debating that.... haha I guarantee that everyone here thinks that both moves were stupid and irresponsible, so how does this all play into Bertuzzi potentially playing for the Wings?
