SFE: Wings looking at 'star player' by deadline
SwedeLundin77 replied to Mighty Wings's topic in General
How is it naive to think that Schneider and Cheli will be fine??? Chelios has shown zero signs of slowing down, the guy has stated on several occasions that he feels the best physically than he ever has before and he is notorious for turning it up in the playoffs - He has also stated that he would like to play another season, the guy is a flat out competitor. Schneider has missed some time, which also means he has gotten some rest, he'll be rejuvenated once back on Tuesday for the long-haul. Schneider also has been known to get it going and play well in the playoffs. I think you have little faith in some of our key players if anything. All you see is age and automatically you assume we need to spend money on defense when what we really need is offense. If you are so concerned about the aging players, well then I guess we need to worry about Lidstrom too, might as well just add 2 defensemen at the deadline and call it a day. Any forward we may possibly get will most likely eat up most of our cap room that is left, and Holland has also stated that after trading for a "star" player, he would like to add one more gritty depth guy up front who can play 3rd or 4th line possibly. Every hockey analyst even states that the Wings D is one of the best in the NHL and there is no need to address anything with it this trade deadline. The offense is what matters most now, and it is the primary focus for improvement. We have been and still are one of the best defensive teams in the league. We also have a goaltender who can back it up as well and will come up huge in the big games for us. -

There is absolutely NO reason to make any moves for defense this trade deadline, NONE whatsoever. When you have kids like Ericsson, Quincey, Meech, and Kindl to call up.... Those guys are only going to give your team energy, especially as good as they already are. 3 of those 4 guys could have made the team if we weren't as deep on defense as we are. Offense is what we need, we don't even have a 20 goal scorer yet and it's more than halfway through the season! Yeah, offense is the word this deadline. -

NOW, that is what I like to hear! I heard before that Holland would like to add a second player as well for more depth up front as well as a top 2 line forward. -

I wish we could make a trade with Florida and get Horton... now that would be top knotch in my book. Williams/Hudler for Horton and a pick -
First of all, I'd take Doan hands down over Nagy. Secondly, we would most likely not be trading Datsyuk for either one of them considering that they are going to trade Doan because he is a UFA at the end of the year and they wouldn't be trading a big ticket UFA for an even bigger ticket UFA. Look for the wings to try and get away with trading Williams and/or Hudler. At least that is what I would think. Oh and possibly a pick as well. This solves the Yotes cap issue with not having to resign a big UFA. They will most likely be buying in the UFA market this summer for someone more affordable if possible. Please Wings, Please Holland! TRADE FOR DOAN!

I feel with Williams being benched tonight for the Datsyuk return, and the fact that he was benched over Hudler and Langfeld also, that something may be up with him. As far as I know, he was a healthy scratch, and that either could mean that Babcock is sending him a message to get his s*** together or that he may be getting read to be traded perhaps? Does anyone else think anything of this? Just thought I'd put it out there for some rumor discussion since it seems a strong possibility that he could be trade bait.
-
Heard from Code, take this as you may, that Detroit has offered Datsyuk and a 1st rounder to San Jose for Patrick Marleau... and San Jose has rejected this offer. Rumored beyond this may be that we will re-offer the contract with Hudler or Grigorenko thrown into the mix, or some variation of it. I don't know, he just mentioned that he had heard Hudler and Grigs names being thrown out there too... Like I said, I'm just passing along what I heard and thought LGW'ers could use it for a topic of discussion... anyway, enjoy.

Datsyuk and Lilja for Smyth.
-
I just can't really see Fosberg fitting on to that San Jose team with all the talent they already have. Yeah, never say never, but really, do they have any room? I guess they could trade a forward, but I would think that Philly is going to be demanding a solid goalie in return. The way I see it, here are some scenarios: - Forsberg to Colorado for Theodore or Budai... but I think Budai is starting to come into his own, that kid has a good amount of talent and could be a starter for them. - to San Jose for Nabokov and Bell - to Montreal for Abeischer - to Detroit for Datsyuk (hahaha, it sounds cool, but with the rate of Forsberg being injured, it would be scary)
-
You know what is interesting to me? The Wings just put Fischer on the LTI (Long Term Injury) List... So now his 1.444 million is free to use for signing another player. Why would they wait until now unless they were potentially looking at a player or making a deal? I just have this feeling that since we haven't heard any rumors lately, that something could happen sometime soon. Yeah we're 9-1-1 in our last 11, but you'd have to be kidding me if you didn't think this team is missing that one quality scoring winger, I hope we make a move for someone good.
-
This trade was obviously bunk. Forsberg has been having problems with his surgically repaired right ankle... the thing about that is, he has said that if he can't get it to the point where his foot feels comfortable in his skate boot, then he may not re-sign in Philly next season and may not re-sign AT all. Therefore this topic is for now concluded. The End.

Ok, Fleury for Hasek straight up... hahahaha I like Hasek, this is merely a joke since Fleury is young, playing great, and has a strong future in front of him.

2005-06 Detroit NHL 82 games played, 2 goals, 13 assists, 15 points, +18, 98 pim, 78 shots, 2.56 shooting % I think last season he proved he was solid, playing every game, posting points, a strong +/-.... I by no means promote Lilja or really care if he is here or not because we already have a lot of depth on defense here in Detroit, but he gets entirely too much s*** around here, mostly because he is not as fast as other defensemen, but the guy posts solid numbers and he is a penalty killer for a reason, he's good at playing a defensive style game. Example: Lilja is slow and doesn't hit as much as he should, therefore he is weak on clearing the defender and chasing the puck back in the defensive zone, but a lot of times he is in position so that he doesn't have to chase down the puck. There is a reason why Babcock, Holland, and the rest of the coaching staff feel he is good on the PK, and they are the experts, not us. They have been in the business of hockey at higher levels for a long time, we have been in the business of watching hockey or playing recreationally for a short or long time. I do believe that since Lebda has come in that they are slowly beginning to realize that we could more effectively use Lebda instead of Lilja, but that doesn't mean that Lilja sucks, it just means that Lebda's speed for this team is more effective. I'm sure there are teams out there that are looking for a stay at home defender, and Lilja is on their lists I'm sure, especially since he only makes a mil. The fact remains, that we are fans, we are hyper-critical of players, so we tend to over-criticize to a point of disrespect, which is completely unnecessary. Once again, let me reitterate that I am by no means a Lilja fan, I just choose to be more realistic wth my views on players, and not bash.
-
We wouldn't trade 2 solid d-men (one offensive d-man espcially) for Forsberg. There would be a forward involved, most likely a Lang or a Datsyuk type player + say Lilja. We are loaded up front, and I don't see the organization screwing a kid out of his position since Filppula, Hudler, and Kopecky are all playing solid for us right now. So we would need to trade a center for a center. This trade isn't going to happen anyway, we would find a more affordable winger before getting Forsberg, and that makes the most sense anyway, we need a winger, not a center.
-
Lilja gets too much crap around here. Other than the fact that he isn't the fastest guy out there, he is a soild stay at home defensemen, who proved last season that he is just that. His +/- was very good and that is a strong reflection of how well he does his job. I am not big on Lilja, don't get me wrong, if we can move him, that's cool, cause we can at least get a draft pick for him and our drafting is sweet so I'm sure we'd put it to good use. I would like to see Quincey up here, but more than likely, Chelios is feeling good and can play full-time, and Lebda is ready for full-time duties as well. We don't need a seventh d-man necessarily and if we were to use anyone, we could try Norton as the 7th man, because we want Quincey to get as much ice-time as possible, and that may not be possible until next season. Or Lilja for Jonsson/pick? Then we could make Jonsson our 7th d-man and let Norton stay in GR or walk.

Rumor is, since Carter is now off the market, that Holland has decided to turn his sights to Gionta. From what I heard Lam wants a bluechip prospect (forward) and a pick (probably 1st or 2nd rd). Don't shoot the messanger by the way, this is something I heard from Code, a supposed insider, so just like an Eklund rumor or any other rumor, I decided to share it no matter if it may be valid or not, because it is interesting. Personally I like this idea, Gionta may not be a big guy, but he is definately a pesky guy on the ice. And he did score 48 goals last season too. And he is a right winger. And he is still relatively young (27). I'd say if we could get him for a prospect and 1st round pick, we'd be stupid not to do it. Would Hudler count? Year GP G A Pts +/- PIM Shots Sh% GWG GTG SHG SHA PPG PPA Season Totals: 2005-06 82 48 41 89 +18 46 291 16.49 10 0 1 0 24 10 Assets: Has excellent speed and acceleration. Plays with loads of feistiness and energy. Shows better-than-average offensive upside and two-way ability. Flaws: Must continue to adapt to the pro game and get physically stronger. Needs to avoid big hits at center ice. Career potential Top six winger.

Rumor: Holland talking to NJD about Gionta
SwedeLundin77 replied to SwedeLundin77's topic in General
All you're doing is freaking out over a slow start... not going to get you anywhere. Zetterberg and Datsyuk need to get on their game, and they will, once that happens, a lot of things will start clicking better, but it is true that teams can win with a defensive style of game. See Edmonton last season, look at the games they beat us in, a lot of 3-2, 2-1 type games... I'm not saying I want this or that I even believe we'll play like that, but it is possible. Our forwards will only click more and more as the season goes on, some line changes will help too to keep certain players fresh and motivated. We are just fine. -
So you're going to tell me I'm being negative on an overly discussed negative topic that comes up for pretty much no reason, just because someone doesn't like a player in particular? Haha. I come on this site to check out information, and when I find stuff like this, I speak my mind on it. Afterall, what I did say on this subject was a comment from my point of view that these threads come up at times because some fans are so used to us being able to just go out and sign the Brett Hulls and so on. So then when a bigger named player doesn't play up to par in 3 games thus far this season, he gets trashed, it just doesn't make sense. So of course I'm going to mention something about it, it's my right as a Wings fan. Hey at least I don't go bashing my team as every little opportunity presents itself. Do I get upset about certain things that the Wings do at times? Yes, but I don't overreact and start a flame war on a message board for my own personal reasons. You may think my posts are negative and yada yada yada, but I would wager that I am on the side of the "Positive" Wings fans out there, I have faith in this team to succeed, and nothing can change that. So if you could, please forgive me for commenting on some threads or posts that I don't exactly agree with. Which so far in this thread a lot of posters don't agree with the topic starters POV. Thank you, someone else who understands part of the reason why we get these silly threads bashing players because they didn't score 8 goals yet 3 games into the season. haha
-
Just another thread on LGW that proves that a lot of Wings fans are just plain spoiled from the years when we could spend 70-80 million and those same fans just don't understand the market now and think we can just do whatever the hell we want. Welcome to the cap era, and hey, guess what, we're still a competitor! Lang is a good part of this team, plain and simple, if you can't see that, well then get your head out of your ass.
-
I'd wager that the starter of this thread is way lazier than Lang.... heck, I'd bet that the starter of this thread ways 400 pounds and has absolutely no life whatsoever...
-
Yeah tell me about it.... seriously, Lang will have at least 60 points this season, and people are complaining because he doesn't have much after 3 games??? GEEZE, if that's the case, we might as well fire half the team for not having a point per game average right? Some people, i'll tell ya.
-
***** and moan, ***** and moan.... sounds like i'm on the right site. Lang is a clutch player, he's also not playing top minutes like he should be, so of course he may get off to a slow start. Now if people could concentrate on us descimating Phoenix tonight, well, this would be a much much better site. But I guess there's always something to complain about, win or lose. Just another day on LGW.
-
If this were to happen, it would only happen towrad the later months of the season closing in on the deadline, if Hasek is either struggling bad (which I HIGHLY doubt) or is injured (which I also HIGHLY doubt). We won't need another goalie, they'll go with Osgood if something happens, he's perfectly capable to take on a full load. We're more likely to go after a winger before a goaltender this season. Depending on how our offense does down the stretch.

EVEN THOUGH THIS RUMOR IS FROM EKLUND, I AM ACTUALLY BELIEVING IT MORE THAN NOT. MY BUDDY WAS AT THE CHICAGO/FLORIDA GAME A FEW DAYS AGO AND SCOTTY BOWMAN WAS THERE WITH ANOTHER GENTLEMAN IN THE STANDS. NOW I KNOW SCOTTY ISN'T NECESSARILY A SCOUT, BUT THAT OTHER GUY COULD HAVE BEEN VERBEEK PERHAPS. ALSO THIS WAS THE SAME NIGHT THE WINGS WERE PLAYING THE AVS... SO THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT SCOTTY WAS DOING SOME SCOUTING FOR US AND THAT WOULD FIT THIS SCENARIO PERFECTLY. BUT WE CAN'T JUST SPECULATE IT HAS TO DO WITH DATSYUK... IT COULD BE A TRADE INVOLVING MACDONALD MAYBE? MAYBE THEY'RE LOOKING AT SOME OF THE PROSPECTS. IF IT IS A TRADE FOR DATSYUK, YOU'D HAVE TO SEE BERTUZZI, JOKINEN, OR HORTON COMING BACK IN RETURN. SPEAKING OF GRIT, HAS ANYONE SEEN FRANZEN PLAYING??? THE GUY IS PLAYING TWICE AS HARD AS LAST YEAR AND IF THEY KEEP HIM ON DATSYUK'S LINE AND/OR GIVE HIM POWERPLAY TIME, THE GUY IS GOING TO DOUBLE IS OUTPUT FROM LAST SEASON, 20 GOALS OR MORE, I GUARANSHEED IT.
