Holland: Wings close to signing "Top 4" D-man

Jonsson would be a good addition, no doubt. He's not super physical, but evidence seen in the olympics this past year has shown him to be more physical than he used to be. Don't be surprised if we sign someone like Sean Hill though too... I have a feeling we'll sign either Jonsson, Markov, Hill, or Roszival. Either through FA or trade. I don't think the concussion problems are as big of a deal with Jonsson anymore, look at his game played per season, he hasn't missed more than 10-15 games at most per season... And i'm not even sure that is for concussion reasons. I'm sure if the concussion thing was a big deal, we wouldn't sign him, plain and simple. If Lidstrom has been calling him to get him on the team, then I'm not going to complain.

    more redwings rumors

Let's judge Howard for what he does when he comes up and plays buddy, not chop him down before he even gets a chance. It's fans like you that make this city a horrible one to live in for goalies. I'm not saying Howard will be the next Sawchuck, but give the guy a freaking chance to show what he can do, he deserves at least that before you come in with your negative bulls***.

    How about this trade?

If we are plausibly going to get any forwards from the Sabres, Briere is not one of them, they won't let him go and we don't need him, we have enough good centers. The one player that would come here from Buffalo would be Afinogenov. I'm hoping for a Biron/Afinogenov for Lilja/Williams

    Wings Interested in Recci?

Interested enough that he signed in Pittsburgh again... Shut this down!

Calder could be up for grabs?

Haha, apparently not a famous topic around here, not even a whisper. How is people talk about all the things they don't want around here but never talk about what they may like to see happen? It's just a rumor folks.

    Kevin Weekes

Can we please close down this topic, it's just upsetting to look at, haha, and completely false anyway.

Souray to Det for Lang and prospect?

Ryder is most likely not going anywhere, Montreal realizes he is an asset they should keep and he apparently doesn't want to leave Montreal just yet... Hence the 1 year deal.

    Kevin Weekes

Yeah if we can't get a goalie before the season starts, i'm guessing it'll be Osgood backed by Liv or MacDonald.... Jimmy H will stay in Grand Rapids and get playing time, that is how it will be.

    Wings interested in.....

I believe it was from Codes blog, and at hockeynations.com/forums in some of Code's public chats. Once again, rumorssssss, not facts.
  10. SwedeLundin77

    Kevin Weekes

I'm not sure where Code got this, but it's complete crap. Not only does it make zero sense, it also makes us look stupid because Weekes is 10 times worse than Osgood and injury prone too. Why in the hell would we do this? There is no reason for it, unless we're going with Osgood as our starter, but even then, why get Weekes, he's horrible. Rumor is we are working on a trade for Biron... Lilja and Kopecky for Biron straight up.... Also we apparenlty offered Lang, Hudler, and Maltby for Ribeiro, Souray, and Aebischer. The Biron one was reported on a Detroit radio station...

    Wings interested in.....

There's nothing really in our papers about it, but it has been rumored that Lang is going to Montreal for Souray.... The lastest rumor was Lang, Hudler, Maltby for Ribeiro, Souray, and Aebischer... That's the last I have heard from a trusted source. Lang is 35, but he still has good years in him and would play very very well between Samsonov and Kovalev.... no doubt about that, you'd get a quality player who will produce and Hudler could kick ass too, plus you'd get a STRONG penalty killer/mucker in Maltby. So who knows how legitimate this rumor is but it's been flying around lately and makes sense for both teams... but who knows.

    Wings interested in.....

Souray is a better defensemen than Schneider in that he plays more defense than offense.... He's also 7 years younger, hits a lot more and actually will drop the gloves. Souray is almost the exact type of player we need here in Detroit.. Oh also he clears the front of the net, something NONE of our d-men do that well. Souray over Schneider is a good move. Getting Carter for say, 2 years, is a good deal if he comes cheaper than he has been asking. I'm not opposed to keeping Lang, but if moving him means we can make some more room for the possibility to pick up some gritty tougher offensive talent, than I'm all for it. Belfour is not going to be a Wing afterall, looks like we're targeting Biron, Giguere, or Abby.. Abby could be packed in the Lang to Montreal deal... Nolan would be a good pick-up at a low cost for a season to see if he can prove himself to be what we need, then he can get a raise next year if he performs. I don't doubt that Nolan has had problems in the past and that he may not be able to play to the potential now, but if we have the room and need someone with his type of talent, why not give the guy a chance to see what he can do, he is also a good leader, something we can always use after losing Yzerman and Shanahan... I would like to get Jonsson too.... Souray, Jonsson, or Markov, if we get one of those three guys I'll be happy.
  13. SwedeLundin77

    Wings interested in.....

Schneider is a good offensive defensemen, and an OK at best defensive defensemen.... If we could get a goalie for Schneider it would make perfect sense. There is no way to say that Nolan's career is over, he's 34, and he is not a locker room cancer, where do you get your information? Owen Nolan is an excellent all-around performer, capable of leading both his team in scoring and the dressing room. Has good size and an excellent shot. Also chips in defensively. The Wings are interested in him, take that as you may, but there is interest. these are role-players, not key players, that's left up to our regulars... Carter would be good feeding off of Datsyuk... Souray would be an excellent addition if he could be had for Lang. I hate to say it, but we are most likely getting Belfour... it is delayed, but it is only a matter of time.

    Kenny Jönsson enters the market

Kenny Jonsson is the perfect fit for the wings right now, he was on the olympic team with Lidstrom, Kronwall, Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Samuelsson... He is a bigger guy who can and will hit and push people around, he is SWEDISH (Holland should be on that), and he is only 31. He has had some injury history when he was in the NHL but he used to be a captain for the Isles and I think he would be an excellent fit on our blue line... Imagine if we traded Schneider and added Jonsson... We would have 4 swedes and 2 americans comprising our defense, that would be awesome, but what would be even sweeter is if we got rid of Lilja and added Jonsson... WE NEED JONSSON, especially now that the UFA market is depleted of good sized defense.... JONSSON!!!! Also with the injury thing, we add Jonsson and then add a depth guy for injuries, easy as that!

    Sean Avery...

Honestly though, I was just watching The Season for 2003 Wings, and it seemed like Holland and Bowman didn't really want to give up Avery, citing he was a one-of-a kinda player and the only reason they traded him was because LA was gunning for him in that trade, otherwise he'd still be here. He seemed for more disciplined in Detroit than he did in LA, and he was younger then too. I think that he just didn't like it in LA, I think he loved it in Detroit so I wouldn't mind getting him back, he's got speed, can put up about 40 points a season, and can hit and pester other players, we need that. We also have the type of team that is disciplined and can enforce that on Sean, I think he would be fine in Detroit and if we have the chance to re-acquire him, I'd say go for it.

Wings acquire D Cory Cross from Penguins

Cross is most likely rejuvenated. He has played on mediocre and down and out teams for the last few years and especially this year. For him to come to a Stanley Cup Contender, and a seroius one at that, I think he'll be willing to do all that is necessary to stay in the lineup and earn a roster spot over Woolley. Wooley is a solid d-man, but Cross is more what we need, he's not as much of a floater as Hatcher was, and he can pinch on the the offense SO much more effectively. His first pass is great, and as he showed everyone in last night's game, He is NOT afraid to put on the body when necessary, and is not afraid to fight, cause he would have with Barnaby had the refs not stopped it, he was ready to go. So eat it naysayers, Holland made a smart move, and we'll benefit from it.

Wings acquire D Cory Cross from Penguins

Cory Cross may not be a glorious pick-up, but I GUARANTEE he is much much better than Rivers. Rivers was worthless, he may have had an impressive season 2 seasons ago, but that was it, he is no more than a career minor leaguer, and I'm glad to be rid of him. Cross is no Norris Candidate, but like someone said above, "anyone who thought we would get anyone more impressive must have been smoking crack." He's a depth guy. The only way he'll play is if he comes in and plays well in the next 20 games, when he does play. And if he does, great! If not, oh well, he's a 7th d-man for a reason. I remember this one guy, he was pretty worthless, I don't know if any of you naysayers have heard of him, but his name is Mikael Samuelsson. Oh yeah, now you remember huh? Anyone who gives Holland s**t for picking up Cross needs to get a nice puck to the head to knock some sense back into it, because Holland was right with Samy, and he's not wrong with Cross, he didn't need to make any major changes to the team, he just added an upgrade over Rivers, that's all, some depth. That's all there is to it, so get over it.

    Holland on Trading Hudler

Looking at Penner, it seems like he is something the Wings could use down the line, and Salei would be an excellent pick-up, although I'm not sure who's spot he would take on our D and if he would mesh well with the core of the team, but I'm guessing he'd be fine and probably take Woolley's spot to add some much needed grit and force. I would be up for this deal for sure. We have Dats and Zata up right now, not to mention the possibility of Kopecky, Grigorenko, Filppula, and others that we have waiting ot emerge in the next few years, I think that Hudler would be an acceptable loss for the right trade.

    Redden to Detroit...

This trade only makes sense if we unload Schneider and his 3.3 million contract, that is the only way getting Redden would work out, since his contract is in the same range. This makes sense because Redden is a high quality defender and is even younger than Schneider, they're both feisty at times, but the age is the crucial factor here. I dont' agree with trading Datsyuk away for Redden unless we could somehow get Havlat or Spezza in the deal as well. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense since if we trade Datsyuk for Redden straight-up we'd be getting about the same amount of salary that Datsyuk is requesting on a d-man we dont' necessarily need unless he is to replace one of our top 4. We don't need more payroll going toward defense, at least no more than one million on someone like Simpson or Marchment. I think that is the best idea. Schneider will be high quality for us in these next 2 seasons and possibly into his retirement beyond that. Redden would be nice but his salary is too inflated, he needs to be making around 2 million tops in this new market, but then again, so does Datsyuk. I hope we sign Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall, then add someone like Simpson and a tough winger like McCarthy (oddly close to McCarty), and call it a day. That seems to be the best option. Lang will chip in 30 - 40 goals this year Shanny - 25 to 35 Yzerman - 15 to 30 Draper - 15 to 30 Holmstrom - 10 to 15 Maltby - 10 to 15 Datsyuk - 25 to 35 Zetterberg - 30+ (I believe he's going to shine given we resign him) Williams - 3 to 7 Hudler - 5 goals Bootland - 1 to 5 Mowers - 5 to 10 Franzen - 5 to 15 Ledin (if he plays for us) - 10+ Lidstrom - 18 goals Schneider - 15 goals Fischer - 6 goals Kronwall - 6 goals Chelios - 5 goals Rivers - 2 goals Delmore - 9 goals Osgood - 27-17 2.48 GAA .909 SV% Legace - 29-9 2.27 GAA .917 SV% Granted all these players won't play full-time, these are just potential numbers if they do play full or more time anyway. I was bored, so that's about all I have to say, haha. Deal with it.

    Schneider to be traded?

    Screw this, keep Schneider!

    Detroit a destination for Fedorov?

If we could get him back for cheaper, along with not being able to sign Datsyuk, I'd say lets do it, because he is dependable enough to score the goals we need and he is a great 2 way player still. He could also maybe be a little bit better under Babcock, and possibly be a better player since I'm sure he knows the crap he pulled on us a few years ago was bull. The fans would give him a hard time at first which would be a good thing because he would play 10 times harder in order to gain the love back. But this is only a deal I'd say if Datsyuk is heading out. But I do hope we get datsyuk back because he is younger and has the potential to be just as good, if not better, than Feds.

    Mogilny to Panthers or Capitals?

Why in the hell would he want to go to the Capitals, that doesn't make any sense at all. He's older, I would think he would want to go to a contender, and the Capitals are about as far as you could get from a contender nowadays. It would be cool if we could get him, but he is also olders so that alone deters me from putting too much stock into it. I would rather have Datsyuk than Mogilny. I don't know if Florida will go for Mogiliny, they've signed quite a few players now and they just got Gratton so they may be even further away from signing big-name players, but who knows.
  23. SwedeLundin77

    Legace

Holland has already clearly stated he will not trade Legace and he is going to go with the Osgood/Legace tandem in net. This makes perfect sense because we get strong goaltending and backup plans every single game for 2 million dollars, whereas most other teams are paying out the ears for good goaltending. We already have it. Osgood said he is looking forward to kicking ass with Legace. There won't be much, if at all, any controversy this season.

    WITT REQUESTS TRADE FROM CAPITALS

You have got to be kidding me to say that we are no longer a contender, you make me sick. We are still a contender, and yes we will make it into the playoffs, there is no doubt about that. Brendan Witt would be a very nice player to get, he has size, he's physical, and he is tough, all of which we need, he is a strong defender. He makes around 1.5 mill., but it seems to me that if he is wanting to go to a contender so badly, he could be had for less, probably wouldn't mind re-negotiating his contract down to about a mill even. I say we should consider him highly, he would add that toughness that we're lacking. Consider it.
  25. SwedeLundin77

    No more centers

Take it easy there, "Chicken Little." Now that kind of phrase is damn annoying, haha. If we had 7 centers it wouldn't be any different than past years, even when we won the cup, Zetterberg can play left wing as well, Yzerman can play all positions, Datsyuk has played right wing and Draper has been known to play on the wing too from time to time. These are all facts that negate this topic even being an issue, since signing Datsyuk and Zetterberg is a priority, one or both of them are the future of this team.
