Official 2014 NHL Trade Deadline Thread

Much better to have him on our team then Quincy or Kindl. Erhoff has wayyyyyyy more offensive upside, and has an absolute cannon from the blue line. We have 3 guys who are very solid in their own end (IE Kronners, Big E and Danny D). Erhoff is not awful in his own end, but he is a significant upgrade for moving the puck efficiently, getting shots through to the net, and helping to run the powerplay.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I would take Gillis down from Tatar to Juro. I think Tatar is too good of a player to trade away. Not only does he possess a lot of talent, but he is full of energy and he competes shift in and shift out. Helm, Juro, a 1st or something around those lines to get Keser and I would be happy, As for Erhoff, he has an absolute rocket. If the Wings get him, our Powerplay will become much more deadly. Not only that, he is good at moving the puck. At this rate, there are a ton of rumours, which makes me very excited for Wednesday. I am not saying Kenny will do something, but I just feel that he realizes that something has to be done.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

They would become the team to beat in the East, along with the Bruins. That would be an unreal top 3 lines either way you do it. I am assuming going the other way for Kesler and Edler per say, would be Quincy, Helm, 1st, 2nd, Jurco (something like that). So lets say that and then look at our top 3 lines: Zetterberg- Datsyuk- Kesler (I would so play these guys together) Franzen- Weiss- Alfie Nyquist- Anderson/Shehan- Tatar Pretty good.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

He doesn't mean all of those players... he is just listing some players that could be used to make the deal. More and more insiders are starting to see this as a possibility, which I think will help Detroit big time if it is for a fair price.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I disagree with you. When hank comes back in the playoffs, he will not be as well conditioned and in game form. Babs will likely play him with pav so that hank does not have to center a line, making it easier on him.

It better be Eaves replacing Bert, not stupid Cleary!

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Part of me feels bad for Stevie Y, but the other part of me does not blame St Louis for being mad about not making team Canada. To this day, I have no idea how the eff Kunitz made the team over St Louis... Kunitz even looked like he could not keep up with that elite level of talent. In saying that, it takes away from Marty St Louis the person and leader. No matter what, a good leader does not just turn on his team, his teammates and his fan base like that.

2/26 GDT - Red Wings 2 at Canadiens 1 (OT)

I would much rather Alfie plays with pavs then franzen. Franzen seems to play well with helm so I would go. Nyquist- pavs- Alfie Franzen - helm Abby Jurco- sheahan- Tatar That's a much more rounded top 9

Great news! My guess is pavs plays tonight and sits out tomorrow night since it is back to back. Hopefully I'm wrong but either way let's take these two points! Go wings!

    Zetterberg out with herniated disc

Either way I say this to the hockey gods... you best leave our players alone for the next long while because these injuries are just ridiculous!!

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Too add to that, he plays a Babcock kind of style, so he would be able to adjust to Babcock's demanding 2 way system. Also, a great point by you in that he has a history of being a big playoffs performer. I wouldn't mind a move to stabalize our D, but I think this move would benefit the Wings more than any other, for the right price.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I think Cammalari would be a nice addition for the right price. He has a history of being clutch when he had good players around him, which he would have in Detroit. It would help to balance the top 6, and he can be a winger or centerman, which will be significant if there are any injuries (which there better not be for the rest of ever given the amount we have had already).

    USA-Canada Thread

A great game between two proud nations. The key thing to take away from this game is that American hockey has come a long way in the last few years. They are really developing players better than ever before and are coming closer to competing with Canada. The main difference, in my opinion, is that the Americans still do not possess the skill that the Canadian players do. The success of the US team is their strong defense play, blocking shots, backchecking, hard hitting. They do not have that many high end skilled players. Off the top of my head, they have Kane, Parise, Kessel, Oshie, Kessler (even Oshie is not top notch against the Canadians). On the flip side, Canada has Crosby, Toews, Getzalf, Perry, Marleau, Benn, Tavaras (who didnt play today). That is just the forwards. On defense, Canada has far better puck moving, offensive dmen, who are also very good in their own end. The Americans have outstanding defensive dmen, however they lack the skill to assert themselves more offensively. This has been the biggest plus to Canada's game this olympics, and last olympics as well. This is the difference in my opinion. While the games would always be close, Canada would come out on top more often then not at this point in time. With that said, it was a great game, and it is great to see the improvements that USA hockey has made in developing their players to compete with our Canadian players.

I would love if we could so some sort of a package deal with the Bluejackets for Gaborick and Jack Johnson.

1/22 GDT : Blackhawks 4 at Red Wings 5 (SO)

I thought that the Wings had a fantastic game against a team that they simply should not have beaten with the amount of injuries that they had. I thought all of the Red Wings, apart from Cleary, had an outstanding game. Everyone created energy, got shots off, went to the net, came back to help... just a solid team game with great coaching by Mike Babcock. - I could not tell Ericsson missed a single game, he was fantastic. - I thought, other than his giveaway, Smith had a great game once again. He was making great stretch passes, making solid D plays, getting pucks to the net. IMO he and Danny Dekeyser showed tonight, once again, that they should both be used on the 2nd PP unit instead of Kindl. - Hank, Nyquist and Abby were unreal tonight every shift. Abby's leg pass that led to Eaves' goal could go down as assist of the year. - Monster looked shaky to start, but settled in as the game went on and came up with some big saves in the end. Apart from all that, this was the most exciting hockey game I have watched all season. Just great back and forth action. Got some saves out of both goalies, got some nice goals, some posts. Just a shame that it had to end via a skills competition. Hopefully the Wings can build on this and take it to Montreal on Friday night... 2 points in that game would be HUGE!

    12/30 GDT : Red Wings 4 at Predators 6

Wings had no energy for the first period and a half, but right after that hit from behind on Hank, they got going. Why did they have no energy? Well it is simple. Howard was letting almost everything in. It is very deflating for a team when your goalie is letting in what should be very routine saves. He let in 3 goals tonight that should have been saved, and Monster would have saved. In my opinion, Monster should be our starter until Howard gives us reason to believe otherwise. Aside from goaltending, I thought the Wings really dug deep in the 3rd and worked hard. Pavs and Hank looked much better playing together, Abby and Helm had fantastic games, Kronners, Danny D, Quincy all had strong games. Smith had the one shift he messed up on, but we would not even be talking about that had Howard covered the puck when he had the chance. Lastly, Eaves once again had a great game!!! IT BAFFLES ME that Babcock sits a guy like Eaves for CLEARY who does nothing!

Patrick Eaves has been fantastic since he has been called up. I think it is a joke that he is now scratched so that Cleary can continue to suck.

I don't know why Babs is splitting up Alfie and Anderson... they seem to have some good chemistry together the past couple games and have resulted in some goals.

12/21 GDT: Red Wings 5 @ Maple Leafs 4 (SO, yes, SO)

This was a very entertaining hockey game; a great way to set up the Classic. - Pavel should have had two goals today... The Leafs player pushed the net so Pavel was 100% correct that should have been a goal. - I thought the refs let the Leafs get away with a lot more then the Wings, however that was because the nhl refs these days are told to ref based on the score of the game, which is retarded. Aside from that, I thought the team played fantastic. My best friend is a Leafs fan and we talked after the game about Danny Dekeyser, and he even said that, besides the miscue that led to the Leafs goal, you could absolutely not tell at all that he had missed over a month of action. He looked great out there tonight in pretty much all aspects. I knew he would be good defensively off the bat, but he seemed even MORE confident offensively tonight. I mean, he was shooting the puck every chance he got and making great plays to keep the zone. One thing is for sure... he looked WAY better playing the point on the PP then Kindl! Also, Pavel and Alfie continue to provide great leadership and Kronners quietly put together a solid, solid game. For anyone that ever rags on him, I ask you to look at his cheap salary and what he brings to the table for this team on a nightly basis and then realize how lucky we are. I love watching the young guys play, but at the same time I am very excited to have our near full team playing by the end of next week. Kudos to Mike Babcock and the coaching staff for the way that they have handled all of these injuries and were able to rally the team tonight to get us a W.

    12/19 GDT: Flames 2 @ Red Wings 3 (OT)

Pavel, Alfie and Monster were fantastic tonight. More then anyone, those 3 stepped up and got us a win. A few other notes: - Kindl, yes not Cleary, but Kindl was by FAR the worst Red Wings player on the ice. He played the worst game I have seen him play in a long time. Every single time he touched the puck, he turned it over. He had about 3 fantastic scoring chances and either missed the net or waited too long and had it blocked. I have no idea how Babcock can continue to play Kindl on the PP unit. He is just awful in every respect, especially to have actually played a worse game then Dan Cleary. - I thought Smith had a great game. He made some great defensive plays tying sticks up in front, and he moved the puck very well. I am still wondering why Babs won't play Smitty on the PP over Kindl. - Bert looked energized out there, winning many puck battles which was nice to see. - I thought Anderson, Jurco and Tatar all had solid games. - Last, but not least, how about the play of Patrick Eaves.I loved him before he was sent down, and now I don't want him to be sent down. And I swear Tootoo should always play because the guy creates energy in the building every single shift that he plays. Stupid Sammy, Cleary and Quincy contracts.

    Kindl

I was at the game tonight against s***sburg. Kindl is just a pain to watch. I was 6 rows from the class and had a very good view. He is so weak on the puck, is afraid to take a hit, makes dumb passes. The most frustrating part is that Kindl continues to get powerplay time on the 2nd unit. He is just not good enough to play point on the PP. He NEVER knows when to shoot or not to shoot- everytime he does shoot it is so obvious that it will be blocked before he even shoots it. I have no idea how much worse he needs to be on the PP before Babs gives Smith a try because Smith has earned it.
  24. wings_fanatic

    Kindl

I would love Kindl to be packed up and traded for a better Dman. IMO Kindl on the 2nd pp is not working and he should not be on the 2nd PP over Brendan Smith. I have no idea what is taking Babs so long to figure that out.

12/12 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Lightning 2 (SO)

Oh yah? How about you go back to the first part of the season when Bert was playing fantastic along with Pavs and Hank. The season is long bud and I am sure you, like many others, loved Bert at that time. Bert just got back from injury, so how about you give him a couple more games to get up to game speed. Also, I don't know what games you watch, but Cleary has NOT been better. He is an awful player. The guy can't skate, the guy can't pass, the guy can't shoot, the guy has zero hockey sense, the guy just flat out sucks and he is a shell of his former self. You are right to say he has no place on the powerplay, but neither does Sammy and Kindl for that matter. Kindl is just such a bad quarterback for the powerplay 2nd unit... I have no idea why Babs doesn't give Smith a chance. Smith can skate the puck wayyyyyyyyyy better then Kindl, Smith can move the puck wayyyyyyyy better then Kindl, and Smith doesn't sit around deking the puck back and forth on his stick for 10 seconds until he gives the puck away like Kindl does. I think the PP#2 unit next game should be: Tatar-Franzen-Nyquist Kronwall/ Alfie-Smith I see no reason why Kronners or Alfie cannot stay out the entire 2 minutes of the powerplay. Having Kindl not on the point for the 2nd unit will do wonders.
