He has stuck Pavs with Cleary for like 5 games now and it has NOT WORKED. Cleary has done NOTHING this season and should actually be sitting in the pressbox. It does not take a smart guy to realize to take Cleary off of that line with Pavs or else we are going to lose this season more often then not.
-
Seriously if I was GM I would consider firing Babcock for not taking Cleary off that line with Pavs! Like it actually really bugs me! Also enough of Hudler playing the point on the powerplay... it should be Lidstrom/ Kronners and Stuart/Ericson on the point (Ericson might suck but he has a wicked slap shot)
-
Fil with Pavs is better than Cleary with Pavs but it still has the problem that there is not a goal scorer on that line. Pavs and Hank were still good in the funk, just couldnt score. I think if they are together now that the Wings are outa the funk things would be different. Honestly tho, anything at this rate would be better than Cleary
-
I blame this bad play on babcock. CLEARLY these lines are not working tonight... time to change things up. And for the love of GOD HOW s*** DOES CLEARY HAVE TO BE TO BE TAKEN OFF OF PAVS LINE!?!? Time for Datsyuk and Zetterberg to be put back together... we need DATS GOING!
-
TERRIBLE period by the Wings. What the hell is it going to take for Babcock to GIVE PAVS A LINEMATE?>!?!? IT is really making me furious! Our best forward is unable to do anything, game in and game out, on a freakin line with Cleary, but yet Babcock STILL uses that line. By the end of this game, Pavs better have a good linemate because I am sick of it. This team will go NOWHERE unless Pavs is able to get going and that is only going to happen with a good linemate.
-
Once again I will state, this largely comes down to poor coaching by Mike Babcock. Why would a coach put DAN CLEARY wit Pavel Datsyk?? Cleary is not a sniper... all the goals he scores are crappy goals from bad angles or rebounds (Homer's role). Last night, Pavs had all the nice moves, but Cleary had no idea what to do while Pavs was doing his thing. Cleary is a very very good 3rd line player, but nothing more. IF we want to continue to see success, Mike Babcock has got to put a guy that can score goals on a line with Pavs.
-
Another solid game by the Wings... they are playing very determined! The only problem I still have is Cleary playing with pavs. Pavs had his game going tonight big time, but he simply had no one to make those nice plays to. Pavs should be getting points, and since he continues to not get enough points with Cleary, I think Babs needs to get Hudler in there as a shooter... we have to have PAvs getting points if we want to continue to be successful.
-
Once again Babcock has Pavs stuck with Cleary at practice today. I think this is a BIG MISTAKE by Babs because it provides Pavs with NOTHING to work with. Hudler deserves to be up with Pavs more than Cleary does right now and more importantly Hudler actually has a good ability to shoot the puck. Having Cleary with Pavs is simply a waste of time. Cleary belongs on the 3rd line and 2nd line if injuries occur.
-
Homer is not lazy, and neither is Cleary. The problem is that, while Cleary does still try very hard, he is not working out with Pavs. Pavs is the most talented player on our team, so he should have a guy to pass to that can shoot the puck and score goals. Cleary is NOT THAT GUY.
-
I never said anything about Zetterberg playing with Datsyuk... actually they are my favorite line along with Homer. But i just stated Pavs also had a superstar named Hossa to play with in 2009 also, as the one poster said Pavs has only had Zetterberg. As for Cleary, yes I am obsessed with it because it drives me nuts. Sure, he scored a goal tonight, but besides that he gave the puck away at least 5 times tonight on the powerplays alone, he continues to lose almost every puck battle and, quite frankly, he just is not cutting it on that line. I think Huds has worked harder all season so far than Cleary, and he should have earned the chance to play with Pavs.
-
... Hossa in 09? But I agree he should have a goal scorer to play with not ******* Dan Cleary.
-
Hard headed Babcock refuses to take Cleary off of pavs' line. That is the problem. I have been preaching it all season. Right now Babs is playing Cleary and Homer with Pavs? What the hell kind of a line is that? IMO this is a TERRIBLE coaching decision by Babs because it gives no one that can score to Pavs to pass to. Cleary has been useless all season, and I want him scratched for a few games. I think Babs should try Hudler up there with Pavs and Homer as Hudler can shoot the puck and actually win battles for the puck.
-
PAvel hasnt been as good because he has NO ONE TO PLAY WITH! He had hank when hank was playing bad, and he has been stuck with cleary all season! babs needs to put Huds up there with Pavs and Homer
-
Hudler should be playing with Pavs! He can score goals. Cleary is a poor man's Homer. Homer is doing his job perfectly on that line, and Hudler would provide Pavs an option to pass to that could actually shoot the puck.
-
Good overall period by the Wings. My one problem continues to be Dan Cleary... he does NOT deserve to play with Pavs at all! He is playing BRUTAL! On the powerplay, he gave the puck away twice, he makes drop passes to no one, and is slowing Pavs down. Why does our best play maker not have a goal scorer to set up? That is dumb and needs to be changed asap because it is a waste of time for Pavs. Other than that good period being led by Captain Nick again.

I am not saying Hudler hasn't earned his ice time. Believe it or not, I actually like Hudler, and if you look at my posts, I have never been one to hate on Hudler because he has been such a key role player for us in the past. With that said, I think the team just needs something new; something to provide a little energy and spark. Homer has been great all season providing energy, getting to loose pucks. Pavs has been good, just not Pavs good. I think Bruno could be a nice fit if we try it out. Bruno- Datsyuk- Homer Franzen- Zetterberg- Hudler Cleary- Filpulla- Helm Miller- Emmerton- Abs
-
I wanna see Bruno play with Pavs. Bruno will provide much needed energy for the team (as he wants to prove himself) and what better way to prove himself than by playing with Pavs. I really hope babs tries him with Pavs because Hank didn't work, Cleary, Fil, Hudler didn't work... time to try something fresh.
-
I would much rather trade for Parise or Semin.
-
If he is splitting up Pavs and Z, I would really like him to try these lines: Filpulla- Datsyuk- Hudler (I think this could be a GREAT line. Speedy, skill, and it would force them all to shoot more) Franzen- Zetterberg- Homer (Try the 3 swedes together and see what happens. Neither Bert or Cleary are playing good enough to be on the 2nd line and Homer has) Cleary- Helm- Bertuzzi (solid 3rd line when playing well) Eaves- Abs- Miller (Solid checking line) I think this would be the best bet for the Wings for now.

Maybe a good sign? 1) Started the season 5-0. Last time they did that was 97-98 (Won Cup) 2) 10 games in were 5-4-1. Last time they did that was as you said, 96-97 (Won Cup) Maybe... just maybe its a sign of good things to come (We got to have something to look forward to)! Seriously though, in about a month from now, we will see teams like the Wings back on top, and the Leafs and Sens and Dallas will be back to their spots. The Wings are in a funk, and it might turn out to be good for them because they have worked so much on their defense lately and its been better, once their offense gets going we will be fine. Another note, Pavs still has 8 points I believe. While he isn't playing as good as he can, we should remember he typically has slow starts. He usually picks up his game in November... I remember Mick talke about this all the time the year we won the Cup because Pavs didn't have an extremely strong start, but he finished wiht 97 points. So I think he is going to come out on his game starting tomorrow.

The call on Homer was terrible, and the call on Bert was terrible... you either take both guys or none of them. That was pathetic. Those calls and then earlier Nyquist was hooked down on what would have been a really good scoring chance and... no call. I swear, the nhl has the worst officiating in the world.
-
These penalties have been TERRIBLE. The refs are doing a terrible job tonight, and it is these lame calls that took the momentum out of the game that the Wings had. I would say these s***ty refs owe the Wings a few PP's in the 3rd, at which rate the boys in red should have no trouble finishing this game and sending the god damn boring ass wild home until march.
-
Cleary was not better. He gave the puck away at least 3 times in the offensive zone. There was one instance where his head was down and he literally just passed right to one of the Wild players. I still think he should be sitting, not Huds. Other than that, the Wings had a great period. The top line looks great, the team D looks much better, and the passing is better. I do not like the 2nd line at all though... it just isn't working. I would move Fil up to center that line with Nyquist and Franzen as the wingers.
-
Welcome to Big Leagues Gustav Nyquist!

I think it is a dumb decision by Babs to scratch Huds over Cleary. Cleary has been, by far, the worst Red Wing on the ice this season, but yet Huds gets scratched over him. I would have rather the lines been (with Hudler out) Zetterberg- Datsyuk- Homer Franzen- Fil- Nyquist Bertuzzi- Helm- Cleary Eaves- Abs- Miller Franzen is not good at center, and besides that is not good at faceoffs. I don't think Bab's idea of the 2nd line will work very well. -
Good news for everyone... Directv and Fox sports have come to an agreement and there will be no cancellation of anything. Love having Directv and we got nothing to worry about. Now just for the Wings to start winning again !
