Yeah, I re-read it and was getting ready to post a retraction. Sorry, for the confusion on my part, carry on.

I don't think this was Stevie saying this, I'm pretty sure it was the writer of the story. If it was Stevie it would have been in quotes. Also, the kid didn't think he had cancer, he didn't even realize that the dad was saying that until they were in the locker room and he overheard his dad talking about it. The only thing it says the kid realized was that he was told to tell Stevie (over the phone) that he moved to Utah to be closer to his doctors. At least that was what I got from it.

Wow. The mother shouldn't have to pay to have his parental rights revoked, the state should do it for reasons of endangerment. Anybody who can use their son like that has issues and has no business around people, let alone impressionable children. Who knows what he's capable of. This tool could have really ruined things for children who really are sick. Thank God for Stevie's class.

I am hoping somebody posts it on YouTube, I am going to be looking for it, I would love to see it again. It was great. It was almost a replay of when he turtled Lemuix, it rocked. The entire Perani Arena lit up, people were going nuts. I'm going to be looking for it myself, if I find it, I'll post it. I do have some pictures of it though, but they are at home. I'll post them tomorrow.

    Steve Downie-Karma is a bitch

Oh...oh...I feel...woozy... Mom?...is that...you? I don't....want...to....go to school....today Look at him right after the hit and the camera goes to him laying on the ice. Look at his eyes, they are open and he is looking toward the refs to see if they see his plight. Look really close, you'll see it. It's funny. Trainer: Do you know where you are? Downie: Yeah, I'm in Philli playing hockey Trainer: How many fingers am I holding up? Downie: Three Trainer: What year is it? Downie: 2008 Trainer: Do you know who you are? Downie: Yes. I'm Batman! ::Stands in heroic pose::

Apparently this ridiculous rumor's been making the rounds...

You make a valid point, but then the real question is: Is there anybody in that list that we would trade Cheli for? Maybe I'm too picky, and maybe I'm just sentimental, but I didn't see anybody. Besides we would be on the losing side of that deal in more ways than just losing Cheli for a moderately comparable D-man. Think of all the leg work, paperwork, and meetings that would be required to be nothing more than the middle man in helping two teams get what they really want/need, in order for us to give up somebody we're not looking to let go of and get nothing really in return for the trouble. However, getting off the sentimental bit, Cheli is getting close to retirement so what could make it worth while would be to: Trade Cheli for Bulin Then trade Bulin and Sammy to Edmonton for Blake That would have potential. Personally, I would rather keep Cheli, but Kenny is not going to make any decisions based on sentimentality (unless you're Stevie or others on a very select list). We also, have to consider that Cheli may want to retire in Chicago, there is that remote possibility. If that is the case than by all means get Blake behind the Wheel.

    Man I love this kid

Big kid, I look forward to seeing what happens with him in the next few years. As for whether or not he will be an enforcer, I think that will be a choice made by his coaching staff. If he's not producing enough in the points department, his coach may ask him to step up his physical game. If he is showing a lot of potential in the points department then push him in that direction. He's still mold able at this point. I think, however, that either way they go, they need to work with him on his fighting and checking and get him to heavyweight level. It would be a shame to let that size go to waste. He wouldn't necessarily have to fight, but it sure would be nice to have the option.

    cleary

I agree, I am really liking Cleary this year. I thought he had potential last year as well, I was just waiting to see if he tapped that potential this year or not. I think he has, undoubtedly.

Apparently this ridiculous rumor's been making the rounds...

What a great idea. Then we could trade Z for Luongo, and Pav for Belfour, Lids for Brodeur, Cleary for DiPietro, Homer for Kolzig, Flipper for Thibault, Huds to bring back Joseph, Lilja and Sammy for Vokoun, Lebda for Kiprusoff, Drake for Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Kronwall for Turco, we'll just pad our lineup with goalies. Let's see anybody score on us then. Oh, wait, we only need 2 goalies and a backup. So why would anybody think that we would get rid of our current goalie lineup? I think this rumor is as ridiculous as the scenario I wrote above. Our goalie lineup rocks and Cheli is going nowhere. Chicago let him go, and now they have to live with that choice. Cheli for Khabibulin as if. Edit: I liked the ROTFL emoticon so I added it.

Red Wings Take Beating, Walk Away With Win

Good point, great argument. Thank you. This is a good point as well, but I don't think we need to beef up for Anaheim, I think we need to beef up a little for every team who is going to try to use physical play to try and wear us down. I in know way think we need to become a physical team, just that we need a little more physical presence. Just a dab will do it. I think that our style of play is unmatched in the league and I would never suggest changing that. But, other teams know that and instead of trying to match us in puck handling they will just knock us off the puck and wear us down. We just need one or two more tough guys to make a statement that, if teams want to get physical we're happy to oblige. But when it comes down to hockey, our boys will outclass the best of them, and I think that is the game we need to stick with, we just need some physical play up front to allow for our puck handlers to do their thing without having to look over their shoulders so much. Let the Wings play their game, just give them some protection while they do it.

Please don't misunderstand me. I am not saying that I am not happy because we didn't win by five goals. Personally I liked it better when there were less goals scored in hockey, that was what made it exciting. What I am saying is that if we had won by a bigger margin then I would be less concerned about our ability to negate the type of bully, cheapshot, hard-hitting, physical play that the Ducks are going to bring to the playoffs. That's all I'm saying.

    VIDEO: Fight Night in Anaheim

I don't think Pronger was trying to eye gouge either, it looked like an accident to me as well. However, I think Cleary did a good job for a non fighter (although there have been the "Fight Club" and bar fight rumors here and there on the boards), I think the only reason he turtled was because of the cut. He really looked like he was into it, when Pronger went down he did throw quite a few at the back of his head. I'll admit though, while watching the fight live I got really bummed out when he turtled, I even yelled at the t.v. "Don't turtle!" But when I saw him get up with the cut eye, I realized why he did, and it was the right thing to do in that case. As for the Downey fight. I consider myself a Downey fan, I really like him, but in this case, as much as I wanted to see a sound pounding, I thought that fight was a draw. I didn't see either of them get a decisive win out of it. Sure O'Donnel went down and Downey was on top, but anybody can lose a skate now and then in a fight, I don't think that's the determining factor. So, I would have liked to see the win, but I don't think it was there. Well fought though, for both parties.

Red Wings Take Beating, Walk Away With Win

This is exactly the point I was going to make after reading the title and the original post. Nobody is offended to hear that we played a great game, just looking at reality. Last nights game was a small taste of the playoffs. Sure we played well, but we also got hit hard all over the ice, it was a very physical game. Now imagine playing seven games just like that. That kind of play will take it out of anybody. Sure it can be argued that we got a little physical and I think that is great, but the point remains, what did it cost us? It cost us Cleary right from the get go. That's a high price to pay. If we lose a forward just because we get physical we won't last long in the playoffs. Sure we won, but only by one point. If it was a totally lopsided game like 5-1 or something then I would say there is nothing to worry about. But when a big team can take guys out of the game and wear our team down like that and still get within one point, there might be some soul searching needed. They do that for a few games in a row and it's not hard to turn the tides in a playoff series. I am stoked that they won, and I'm not taking that away from them. I was as happy as the next guy, just concerned about seeing that night after night in a playoff setting, that's all. Especially if Downey doesn't get to see any ice time.

Hey IceMunkee, Where did you guys go to see Mac after the game. My son and I are going to go either Friday or Sunday and I would love to get over and see him. Plus, we would like to add a picture of my son with him to my sons collection (he has his pick with a few of the players so far). I'm just not sure where to go. Also, how long did you guys wait after the game for him to come out? My son has a bed time so I don't want to keep him out really late (if we go Friday). I appreciate it.

nhl on versus for 3 more years

We want ... a shrubbery! You must return here with a shrubbery or else ... you shall not pass through this wood alive! One that looks nice. And not too expensive. Sorry, has absolutely nothing to do with the topic, but this is my favorite movie ever. I love your sig. And now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

nhl on versus for 3 more years

Fox Sports maybe. I realize that there are those of you who don't live here and need VS to be able to get the games, and I am glad that there is something out there so you can see them. But for those of us who live here, I would much rather watch our local announcers announce the game. I'll be honest, I haven't seen VS yet so I don't really have an opinion of it yet, but I will be getting it soon, so I'm sure I will have one. But what aggravates me about the whole situation is having to upgrade my satellite package just to get it. It used to be on UPN 50 and I paid $200 to get my antennae fixed so I could get it up in my area. Almost immediately after that, it went to ESPN so I get the basic satellite package so I could get them, then it switches to Fox Sports so I have to upgrade to Americas Top 200 package with my satellite so I could get them, now they are starting to go to VS so I am going to have to upgrade to Americas Top 250 package with my satellite to see the playoffs (completely missed last years playoffs due to this) and some games. What's next? It's not going to be long before we are having to get the everything packages with our cable/satellite companies just to see the games, we're going to have to have the packages that include HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Stars, and we will also probably have to add Center Ice. I'll tell you what, I am almost getting priced out of hockey. I'll continue to follow it, but if the NHL keeps up the programming pattern they are on, eventually I won't be able to afford (nor want) the cable/satellite package required just to get the games. Bettman is always trying to figure out how to get more butts in the seats and up the fan base. Here's an idea, make the games a little more accessible. It costs too much for anybody to just stumble upon it and become a new fan, you have to be a fan to begin with to chase it down. So, I don't really have any problems with VS (yet, I'll let you know after I get it and see a few games on it), but I do have a problem with the moving target that is the programming schedule. And I have a problem with continuously having to upgrade my satellite just to keep up with it. If VS wants to carry some games that's fine (and good for those who can only see the games on VS), but there should be a way that Fox Sports can broadcast them too for us local yocals, that's all I'm saying. Edit to add response: I have heard that there are some cable and satellite packages that VS is in the lower package, but the buggers I'm getting mine from only have it in the Top 250 package, so I have to pay even more to get it. However, I am glad that you get it with yours, I can't imagine being a Wings fan out of state, and not getting to watch the games regularly. I'm glad that you get them, and that VS is in your package.

    Ken Daniels

Here's a view from a different perspective: I personally like Ken, and love the Mickey-isms, and I even like Murph and what he has been adding to the conversation (I even like his little segments watching the telestrator when he let's us know how the D-man blew the play). But I'll admit that I don't really listen to them all that much because I am too engrossed in the game so I miss a lot of the things Ken says (I do like the stats sometimes though). Anyway, back to my point, my wife is legally blind and can't see the game at all. She loves Ken and Mickey, and is always exclaiming what a great job Ken does at the play by play. Sure he throws in stats, but he always seems to keep up with the play. It is probably hard to realize it while we are watching because we pay attention in a different way, but take it from a blind lady, Ken is the best play by play man in the league. He really keeps her in the game. On a side note however, it does kind of bug me the way always puts the name after the action. "He passes up the center to Cleary does Chelios." That's kind of weird. Why don't you tell me who you're talking about first, then tell me what he did. "Chelios passes up the center to Cleary." See it's not that hard. But it's a small price to pay, he's great. I mean he does a great job considering "It's no place for a nervous person." - Mick edit: On a side note, I think the team is playing a trick on him. Has anybody else noticed that he pronounces Kopecky as Kopetsky? I wondered why he does that and then one day he said he was told that Kopecky likes it pronounced Kopetsky. However, whenever you hear any of the players or Babcock talk about Kopecky, they pronounce it Kopecky, not Kopetsky. I just thought it was funny.

    Rafalski?

I like Raf personally, but it's kind of an up and down sort of like. I've seen quite a few turnovers myself (only a couple that were truly detrimental), but I balance that with some of the really good plays I've seen him make so I'm good with it. Kind of an, "Oh no, I can't believe he just did that" to a "Wow! I can't believe he just did that."I think he's a good two way player, sure his defensive play isn't always spectacular, but I've seen him make some pretty good defensive plays. But at the same time, for a defenseman, he can score. Definitely an upgrade from Schneids so, no complaint from me.

Could Hossa come to Red Wings?

I totally agree, but this post builds on my original post. I really couldn't care less about Hossa, he doesn't excite me all that much. Sammy is the only one on the team that I would be willing to lose for him. But as I keep saying, we don't need another shooter, we have great shooters, we need a physical presence for the playoffs because that is where teams kill us. "Despite his terrible playoffs..."? That would be the only reason to consider him, we don't need to someone to bolster our regular season play, we're leading the league by a large margin. We have a kickin' regular season team. If not for the playoffs, then what for? Besides, when was this article written and all of this discussion started? It was after the win against Detroit. So big deal, he gets a hat trick and all of a sudden he becomes the great white hope. Like I said in my original post, even a broken clock is right twice a day, that doesn't mean I want to buy it. Sure he is good, but he's not some magic man that is going to solve all of our problems. Last time I checked we're leading the league, we don't have any problems to solve regarding scoring. The problem we need to solve coming into the playoffs, is getting the smack down every time we touch the puck. I think he would be a great asset to some of the other teams out there, just not ours.

Could Hossa come to Red Wings?

Wow, you want to hear something really sad? Sammy must really be doing bad, I kind of forgot about him. I mean like altogether. I totally forgot he was even in the lineup. Absolutely, Sammy for Hossa, all day long.
