Although as much as I love the two, they're nowhere near the level of a poor man's Sedin twins. Especially as individuals. I wish they were that good. More like a homeless person's Sedin twins or Salvation Army or something like that. The Koivus are probably the top Finnish bros. Then maybe the Jokinens although I think the Ruutus are sometimes better overall than the Jokinens. Hopefully the Filppulas will join those ranks.

"Val... to Ilari... Back to Val... Dropped back to Ilari... These two are like a two man Finnish Globetrotters... Val again... THREADS THE NEEDLE TO ILARI AND HE SCORESSSSS!!!! FILPULLA TEKEE MAALIN!!! VITTU JOOOOOOOO!!!"

So Maltby will be our "enforcer"?
-
I don't think the Wings need an Edler right now.
-
Is Filppula going to be our 3rd line center...or 1st line winger?

How about neither? 2nd Line Center. -
Unless he has to be Franzen isn't really a net front presence during 5 on 5 situations. It's only on the PP where he plays in front of the net most of the time. Bahaha.

Bahahaha!

I like the idea in your sig. I was thinking sometime that LGW should have a thread where users declare their current status on common issues on LGW. Maybe for like LGW census purposes, hehe.
-
I really don't mean to hijack a thread or anything. I just have a couple hopefully harmless questions. How indicative are WHL stats for a player's potential in the NHL? And how is it that Ferraro generates so much excitement when he doesn't even have as good of a ppg as Darren Helm did? Just because he was a first pick of DET and his last name?

Moreau can also play on the PK. The one year deal before you retire type is definitely Kenny's kind of guy for that role, for better or for worse.
-
Maybe he's already worked out a deal with the KHL or something.
-
Moreau would be a perfect fit next to Helm and Eaves. Or Abdelkader and Miller/Ritola. Get 'er done, Kenny!!! Wooo!!!

I want the Wings to get back to the '08 form but maybe the other teams in the NHL have adapted themselves to the way the Wings won. So now the Wings have to find a way to make a tweak here and there in the system to make themselves better.

It certainly felt nice to watch the Wings win four championships within eleven years.
-
Haha. Pav comes on here and says, "Hank more lazy and sucks!"
-
The Wings expect a lot of internal changes. Filppula having a better year. Ericsson and Kronwall having better years. Etc.

In reflecting on Stuart's good year this past season I think it's safe to say that he really stepped up. In regards to what we can expect from him next year I'm wondering if we're all going to expect the Brad Stuart that was the team's best defensemen at one point in the year. We all like to think, "Oh wow, if he was that good then, then he should be that good next year and if everybody's healthy our back end will be really strong!" I'm not so sure though. Perhaps it was the situation of injuries that brought out Stuart's great game as opposed to a situation where the defense corps are relatively healthier like in 08-09 where he didn't nearly play as well. If everybody's healthy then he might feel like he doesn't have to step up and so we won't see as great of a game from him.

He got picked up off waivers. Sounds like a Cleary story only it's a dman.

Hakan Andersson compares him Filppula without the high-end speed. Last time the GR had a Filppula they did fairly well, . But if he has the ability to make smart plays and cover the ice defensively so that Tatar and Mursak can shoulder the offense then that sounds like a good fit to me. Jocke can definitely make some good passes. Plus, Tatar and Mursak, while diminutive, have good enough attitudes and competitive streaks that gives them the ability to play a lot bigger than their size.

Toews: Most undeserving Conn Smyth winner in history?
titanium2 replied to blues_demitra38's topic in General
Maybe but if he did I would've been a little disappointed in the Conn Smythe award itself. His ridiculous cherry picking during the playoffs was so annoying to me. -
Yeah I think some people hear the comparison to Helm and think his hands need to catch up with his speed. Not true. The only comparable aspect of Mursak's game to Helm's is his flat out speed. Grand Rapids Tatar-Andersson-Mursak FTW!!!!!!

Seems like whoever signs Frolov is going to overpay quite a bit.
-
Yeah McFarland would be great if he were to fall that far but I don't know about that. He'd go really well with Ferraro on the right wing.
-
There are times when he shows flashes and makes some really smart plays for a couple of shifts. You think that if he did that more often then we'd have a Joe Pavelski in the making or someone similar to him. He and Pare played a lot together from what I remember so Fraser probably thinks those two fit pretty well together. If he's going to keep those two together, though, then that line should have someone with decent size that can retrieve pucks and create space, basically be a Holmstrom for Emmerton and Pare, the two skilled guys. But when Fraser had a line of Tatar-Emmerton-Mursak, we all saw that line make some nice plays together. A little bit of it is better linemates but he could definitely do more to stand out.
