If Pav and Z are going to be on the PP together then I hope the 2nd unit is Huds, Fil and Mule. It's not as skilled as the Huds, Z and Mule unit from 08-09 but I feel like it has a similar format and can be pretty good.

Yep. Pretty much what I've been harping on ever since the beginning of 2009. Babs thinks that he can put Pav and Z together anytime he wants. The hard part about it is that it's true, but only if they build and establish that chemistry early on. Build that foundation early and you'll always have that weapon in your arsenal.

He did have a pretty bad year. He's not a bust prospect yet, not even close but this past year was kind of revealing for his character.

Nick is the best defenseman on the team and the Wings along with many other organizations structure their salary so that the best are also the highest paid. Those who wanted Nick to get around 5 mil need to understand that Kenny simply wouldn't allow it based on how the Wings conduct business.

What examples are there in sports where somebody who was considered to be the best at their position in the league took an insanely generous pay cut? His contract was fair. Simply fair. What other deals have happened that were "incredible generous"?

What do you mean? Hudler has been very, very competent on the 2nd PP unit. He's always been on it the past three years.

Well, I'm sure you remember that Eaves was not in the lineup from day one. Neither was Miller. Helm, in fact, had to be scratched. My observation is that these guys had to keep it really simple for this past year in order to remain on the team. My hope is that next season they'll be able to play a little bit more of a puck possession style. They most definitely can. A training camp with new drills and strategy could help them in that direction. -
One thing that I kind of don't like is Nick saying he'll take it year by year. I kind of wish he would just say, "This will be my last year."

So Hudler and Franzen on the second unit. Who will be the third forward? I personally hope for Filppula. I can see Babs putting out Cleary to be at the net so that Franzen can post a threat with his shot.

Ansar Khan already reported that Stephen Johnston won't be re-signed. It's too bad. The toughness crowd would have really liked him because he had some real snarl to his game.

Gretzky probably stole that from someone else that may not have ever made it to the NHL. I heard from somewhere, either here or another forum that Datsyuk stole his toe drag shootout move (Turco, Vokoun, Harding) from a teammate in Russia.

Looks like I'll have to deal with some anxiety for the next seven days whenever I think about the Wings. I'd do anything just to log onto LGW and see a thread titled, "Nick's coming back!!!" Or something like that after he's made his final decision.

I don't miss the Gary Thorne and Bill Clement that had an obvious Avalanche bias. The other times yeah they were fine.
