If he comes back, I just can't really see Lidstrom getting paid less than Rafalski. I just have this perception that because of politics or whatever that it's simply "wrong" for a guy like Lidstrom to not be the highest paid player at least in his position.

All true. It's just that Nick would still be the best defenseman on the team if not the best player. When Stevie took his paycuts during the dying years of his career he was nowhere near being the best forward.

The options for free agency aren't too appealing to me this year. Even though it's a more difficult process I'd rather they explore through trade for perhaps someone stuck a bad team that can really thrive with better linemates or whatever.

Maybe they'll be able to get Colby Armstrong after all. Ritola and Abdelkader play really well together. Mostly because they've been like best friends for a while now.

Also, Smith is a converted forward like Ericsson. He'll probably be able to play a bigger Meech-like role where he fills in at forward at times.

I feel pretty excited to see a lot of fresh new faces in GR and expect to see a more than fair amount of frustration at the same time as they struggle through growing pains. When it comes to fighting I think he's a guy who will only do it if absolutely necessary because he is a guy that coaches want on the ice and not in the box. That's what sucks about balancing that whole dimension. You want it to be a part of your game but you don't want to be taken out of the game. That's something we will definitely see Abdelkader struggle with this year.

Him, Ferraro and Axelsson will be the 'hotshots' of the franchise players. Naw but I think it's okay to be a little cocky every now and again. I have no idea how bad it is for him.

Not quite. Babs said he'll have every opportunity to prove that he can play in the top six. He can definitely play his way back to the 3rd line.
