Winging it in Motown has different results but a lot more votes: You should never pick your poison but it is always good to have an opponent where the travel isn't so bad.
-
I wish they could sign Helm for the rest of his NHL career. Who was the last person that got a standing ovation at the Joe for a penalty kill?
-
Reminds me of The Mighty Ducks where The Hawks had one 2nd place banner within a mess of 1st place banners. "Oh boy... I wish they would take that one down. Don't you?"
-
Not sure if you're being serious or not. I doubt it will happen but I hope the Wings do so.
-
Who was making that executive decision? Colin Campbell?
-
I guess I see what you mean if you have to go by official captain but that's kind of a bulls*** technicality to me. If you want to talk about great leaders then Lidstrom has to be in the mix.
-
Luckyyyyyyyy.

That's a job where he will always be the bad guy and won't be able to make anyone happy. If he's up for it then more power to him.
-
Yzerman, Messier, Stevens, Bourque, Sakic and Francis. I really don't see why not. Enlighten me on your impression of a great leader.

I bet Stevie would disagree.

Draper is to Helm, Eaves, Miller and Abdelkader what Osgood is to Howard. They both offer guidance and support that only an experienced veteran can provide.

Pierre LeBrun thinks it's either DET or VAN from the West

What? From March until the end of the season they went 12-2-1 that year. -

ESPN thinks that the Wings will come out of the West? Well, there goes the Wings chances for any playoff success this year. Barry Melrose and crew are supposed to doubt the Wings and then the Wings prove them wrong. That's how the dynamic goes. -
Ehh, I don't think so. They still had A LOT of games where they didn't put in a full 60 minutes.
-
Is the way Lidstrom handled his captaincy really that much different then the way Stevie did?
-
Come on, man... It's also about work in the community. I know Nick does a lot with hockey schools. It just doesn't get much publicity.
-
Nope, no one mentioned it. If Lidstrom comes back I'm pretty confident they'll tie it. And if he comes back for the next year then I'm pretty confident they'll break it. I don't know the exact details of it but the compacted schedule due to the Olympics had a big effect on the Wings this season. Next year they won't have to deal with that. Hopefully they'll be able to beat Boston's at 29 years. I hate Boston. They always seem to be better than Detroit at all the sports I care about. If they do that then they'll have the biggest streak in all of sports right?

I ended up picking San Jose. They might have a little playoff experience but not all that much when it comes to winning. Plus the Wings just seem to match up with them well. If it's Vancouver then I really can't see Zetterberg and/or Datsyuk getting out dueled by the Sedins and Bobby Loo right now is not really near his top form. With Chicago I think it would come down to goaltending and I think Jimmy is a little better than Niemi. I think the Coyotes are going to be really hungry and among the four options they have the hottest goaltender. No thank you.

Holmstrom didn't play for the Wings until the 96-97 season I think. So for him it's more like 13 years or something like that.
-
Wow I can't believe people here are picking Phoenix. Bryzgalov is not someone I want to mess with in the first round.
-
I prefer guys like Helm, Eaves and Miller on the bottom six. The coaches ask them to play more of a dump and chase game because they're effective at it with their speed. They can dish out hits but they also have some skill with the puck. My hope is that next year they'll be better at blending in a little more puck possession traits to the way they play. Get the puck in deep but hang on to it more and look for something to open up.
-
It's not surprising to anybody on here. I think we all just wanted the Wings to make the playoffs.

I'm glad the line of Cleary-Helm-Eaves played well. I like Cleary as a grinder.
